We’re back open today! We’re here today until 6pm tonight.

We’re starting off the year with some good news as we today found out we finished in 38th place in the top 50 independent wine shops in the UK!!

A massive achievement considering there are over 1,000 indie wine shops in the UK. Not bad for a small, family run business in Essex!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

That’s us done for another year and what a year it has been. We opened our second shop, launched a gin brand, made it to the Top 50 independent wine shops again and sold more bottles of Chin Chin that we thought that was humanly possible.

Massive thanks to all of you that shopped with us in 2024 and made sure that our doors are still open as Vino Vero goes into its 12th year of trading. It’s been a difficult year for the hospitality industry as restaurants and wine shops around the country and going out of business at an alarming rate. Your ongoing support means the word to us.

A huge thanks to our amazing team Ali, Claire, Caz and Josh who have performed tirelessly in 2024. Extra special thanks to our manager Ollie for all of his hard work and innovation bringing new ideas and customer experiences to our Leigh shop.

We’re now closed until Tuesday 7th January while we refresh the shop after the madness of Christmas!

One for the designated drivers!

We get asked a lot for non-alcoholic wine and whilst this is something we have never stocked these bottles from are far better alternative than de-alcoholised wine.

Spark - pink sparkling using schisandra berry, guayusa and cayenne pepper.

Sharp - white with a subtle fizz using California poppy, amino acids and vitamins B, C and D.

All the fun without the hangover! Vegan friendly, low calorie, low sugar, sulphite free and absolutely delicious!

Our very own gin made in collaboration with and will be launching very soon.

Each purchase will come with a free poster, limited like the bottle to 150 copies, all hand numbered.

The poster outlines the full story of Baron Joris Van Skinsloof who travelled to the mythical land of Essex to create the first gin back in 1326 using Essex Chardonnay (this may or may not be a true story)

It’s been amazing fun getting our own gin produced under our new brand .

The idea stems from the question over the origin of gin.

The concept follows Joris Van Skinsloof — a failed alchemist from the Netherlands in his quest to produce the finest elixir known to man using the finest Chardonnay grapes from the mythical land of Essex.

Only 150 bottles produced.

What a great night for late night shopping yesterday! We’re back open for drinking in all weekend!

Black Friday today. We often get asked if we have any offers. It’s not something we’ve done or would look to do. We try to offer fair prices all year round and respect the craft of producing real wine.

We received an email last year from a winemaker in Italy which I think perfectly highlights our feeling towards Black Friday and real wine

“Black Friday approaches, many are insisting on this day dedicated to discounts.

It is legitimate to push consumption, nothing new. Nothing wrong with that, except that in the natural wine sector many farmers are just artisans and nothing more. Me first.

We have long emphasized the dignity of “handmade” products. And so I wonder why those who work with (simple) artisans should adopt a focusing logic, with a reduced price, like this. Why should those who make craftsmanship the cornerstone of their work and their message adopt the same logic as industry?

You are a craftsman above all in your intentions.

Why should a handmade chair, a tailored shirt or an artisanal wine be discounted for a day? I don’t see a logical reason.

Growing an agricultural company by adopting the same logic of action as an industry is just a declaration of inability. The crisis of online wine sales sites - a sector that appeared to be a goose that laid golden eggs - is testimony to this.

In every way, human beings, almost twenty years after the advent of the internet, continue to scream that “they want to know in person who produced the food (and wine) that they are consuming”.

A craftsman is such if he is also an author. And the price of an author is not determined by a retailer, an agent or a distribution company, but by the author himself: that is, the winemaker.

An author who does not have the strength to decide his own value is not an author.

The enthusiasm of those who drink wine, of those who seek clean water at the source and new, fresh words in the glass, has no need at all for events like this Friday’s.

My hope for this Black Friday is that all of you can treat yourself to a bottle of an artisan, better would be an authorial wine.”

Very happy to make the cut for the top 50 independent wine shops again!

Making the top 50 is no easy task given there are over 1,000 independent wine retailers in the UK.

Massive thanks to our team for all their hard work in getting us to the top 50 again. We reached the dizzy heights of 41st place last year, we’ll find out in January if we’ve come any closer to the top 10!
