We’re kicking off 2025 by throwing a daytime party!

January 26th will be the first of three new ‘Sunday Sessions’ – a monthly afternoon hangout to warm the colder months with wine, food and music. We aim to catch the essence of our spring/summer warehouse sessions to pull us through the dark nights and winter freeze...

Find us at on Sheaf Street where we’ll be packing the bar with a big selection of our wine to drink by the glass and bottle and will be joined by friends with boxes of records and nice things to eat to blow those January blues far, far away.

With a stage and soundsystem at our disposal, our Sunday Sessions will additionally feature a live performance to ensure all sensory needs are met. So, expect:

Wayward Natural Wine Bar – pouring a list of our own imports by the glass, with some special gems plucked from the cellar for those who would like to enjoy a choice bottle.

DJ sets from warehouse session regulars and good friends ( ) and ()

XAM Duo (improv ambient synth/saxophone live set )

Alongside our 10% off online sale, throughout January when you visit us at the shop we are offering all bottles to drink in at the take-out shelf price - sans corkage.

Usually just the preserve of a Thursday evening, every day we’re open this month you can pop the cork on your chosen bottle for £10 less.

The inbetweeny bit…

What day is it? What time is it? No one really knows this time of year, right? So here’s a little reminder that the shop is back open today so you can replenish your rack after the festivities. We’ll be opening the following hours between now and New Years Eve…

It’s the last Saturday before Christmas and we’re open 10-10 again up at the shop. The shelves are utterly stacked, we have Champagne and more open by the glass, call by and see us!

See the post pinned to the top of our grid for full festive hours but we’re also open 10-10 tomorrow (Sunday 22nd) and Monday 23rd, so still time to get the cellar stocked.

In the online realms we’re still taking orders online and our last pre-Xmas shipping date is Monday 23rd. It *should* arrive next day but sadly we cannot guarantee it as the little courier elves are taking a pummelling at present. Roll the dice…

We can, however, guarantee that orders placed by midday on Monday will reach you in time for NYE activities, you’ll be pleased to know.

B A L A G N Y 2 0 2 2

We’re very fortunate to have some bottles from the late, great Julie Balagny up at the shop right now. 2022 was tragically the final vintage before her untimely passing in the summer of 2023, these bottles contain a little of her inimitable magic, ensuring her legacy lives on for lovers of her wine and everything she stood for.

For many, Balagny needs no introduction. For those not familiar, she represented the free-spirited, radical side of Beaujolais and indeed natural wine itself. Working in Fleurie, she was known for the most delicate, pure, resolutely ‘living’ expressions of Gamay that could stop you in your tracks with their seductive perfume, gossamer texture and glimmering, luminous pigment. Many of her wines were made in exactly the same way – starting with pristine bunches in a cold carbonic maceration the grapes would be left completely untouched to extract in the most delicate way possible before being slowly pressed by hand. But the dynamic range of the finished results spoke for itself; a fascinating demonstration of wine expressing a very specific place, the unique qualities of each vineyard and the hands that tended them.

We’ll be tucking some of these away in our cellar, but a handful of each can be found only on the shelves of our Chapel Allerton shop, to open with us here or to take home to lay down for yourself.

Delivery deadlines for online orders…

The cutoff for pre-christmas delivery is fast approaching! Place your orders by midday, Friday 20th December to guarantee delivery before Christmas Eve.

Our final shipping day will be Monday 23rd, but we cannot 100% guarantee next day delivery- so order ahead to be sure! Any orders placed after noon on the 23rd will be shipped on Monday 30th December.

We recommend ordering New Year’s wine sooner rather than later too. Place your orders by midday, Monday 23rd December to guarantee delivery by New Year’s Eve.

We will also be shipping on Monday 30th December but cannot guarantee next day delivery.

It’s Monday and the shop is ho ho hOPEN!

Today is the first of eight uncut days of wall to wall wine at our Chapel Allerton shop. The shelves are positively bursting with festive treats and we’ve even brought in some ho ho hOME MADE mince pies to mark the occasion.

We’re slinging the goods 12-6pm today and tomorrow. Then from Weds 18th-Mon 23rd we’re here 10am-10pm for all your festive wine requirements.

We’re on hand to help with your selections, whether it be a bottle for the Xmas table or a bottle to gift a love one. Or perhaps you need some stocking fillers? We’ve got corkscrews, tote bags, half bottles of port, gift vouchers and gift packs - need we say more?!

Of course you can also order your wine online and have it delivered to your door, or collect from our shop or warehouse. Order before noon this Friday 20th for guaranteed delivery before Xmas.

We know we’ve been shouting a lot about those extra-special bottles we reach for this time of year, so it’s only right that we shine some light on the unsung heroes of the festive season; those sub-£20 bottles that deliver in terms of quality and price point. A successful seasonal cellar needs those go-to, easy drinking bottles ready to pop open at a moment’s notice- bottles to quench the thirst and please the crowds.

B E A U J O L A I S B L A N C

It’s something we’ve been keenly anticipating since Elisa told us she had taken on a 40 year-old Chardonnay vineyard in the extreme north of the region when she visited us last year - Guerin Beaujolais-Villages Blanc 2023 is here and available now, online, in the shop and to trade.

Being just a stone’s throw from the Mâconnais department of southern Burgundy, there is a long history of cultivating Chardonnay here and the soils are distinct from the decomposed granite over which Gamay is grown in the nearby Beaujolais crus as a result. The ground is dotted with white pebbles, born from the rocky soils of chalk, clay and limestone beneath them, giving the wine some good flesh, robust structure and minerality.

Aromatically the wine has detailed aromas of wild herbs and flowers, with golden chamomile notes, nectarine and apricot. Honeyed and full on the palate, with clean acids there is almond among the citrus and stone fruits. Rounding out with some creaminess it tails into fennel bitters in the finish. A wine that exudes a cool, classical feel, its concentration and structure suggest that it will cellar well too.

Not forgetting the Gamay… it’s at this time of year that this region really sings. We also have a selection of Elisa’s cru cuvées from Moulin-à-Vent and Chiroubles, as well as her much-loved Beaujolais-Villages Rouge which just seems to improve as the year goes on and is an absolute steal at the price.

If you’re calling by our shop to stock the cellar and pick up some wine for the festivities this year, you’ll be pleased to know that as usual we will be extending our hours dramatically to make life easier!

From Thursday this week we open at midday with longer hours on Saturday, then after a little rest on Sunday 15th we’ll be sliding all the way through to Monday 23rd - eight uncut days of wine-based enabling.

We’ll be on hand to help with recommendations to pinpoint exactly what you’re looking for, there’s the option to build two-bottle gift packs and there are other little stocking fillers like corkscrews and tote bags to help fill those stockings. Of course there will always be bottles open for a glass or two to help oil the decision-making cogs...
