This has certainly been a champagne summer. Last month Jane was invited to France to visit the Bollinger and Ayala vineyards. We think this is definitely one for our "It’s a tough job but… " series😁

It’s Saturday and you know what that means…
TAAAASSSTTIIING!!

Today we journey to Spain. New to the shop from Latue we have a Verdejo - the go-to wine for the Spanish. Typical apples and pears on the nose with refreshing acidity and a great minerality on the finish which means pairing with fish, seafood, risottos and tapas is a dream!

For reds we have a medium bodied Sensibel which is in essence a Tempranillo grape. Red fruits on the nose with cherry coming through on the palate. Light oaking gives this structure along with soft tanins. Pair with tomato dishes, light lamb roasts.

Forget the weather - we have wine😁

Ooh fresh and fruity rules today’s tasting in the shop. First up a wonderful Mulderbosch Chenin-blanc. Refreshing acidity yet full in the mouth with pear, apple and peach on the palate - hint of minerality.
For reds a light and fruity Pinotage. A cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsault grapes,
There’s forest fruits on the nose and palate with chocolate notes coming through on the finish. A good choice to pair with lamb cutlets and lighter roasts.

It’s all happening here in our wonderful medieval town this weekend and beyond. Come and pay us a visit coz once again Italian wine ambassador Michele is in town😊👍🏼
On taste today a beautifully complex white Rioja - floral notes with stone fruits and citrus on the nose and palate, slight smokiness from oak barrels make this a lovely easy drinking wine but also perfect for monkfish, creamy pasta dishes and chicken.
For reds we have a 2018 full-bodied Tuscan montepulciano with darker notes coming through such as to***co on the palate. Great for cured and grilled meats.

And we have a special treat in the shop today. Our very own wine ambassador Michele is with us all day with his incredible knowledge of all things Italian.

BREAKING NEWS - HOLLY SALT WINS PRESTIGIOUS WINE AWARD!!

Hello everyone! It’s just been announced today to a packed audience at London Wine Fair - Holly has just won a “30 UNDER 30” award!
This means she’s now included in the 30 top-ranking members of the UK wine industry aged under 30.

Now in its third year, Harpers Wine magazine created the awards to celebrate the breadth of quality, expertise and innovative practice of new talent.
Competition is very tough and a panel of judges convenes for two days make the final selection.

Harpers say “many of our finalists sit at the top of the age bracket (27-29). As you might expect, it’s those few years of extra experience and practical skills which help applicants to shine”
Holly is only 25 - so she didn’t think that she’d make it to the final selection. This makes it even more of an achievement.

We are bursting with pride - well done Holly!! xx

Hello everyone! Already half way through the month - don’t you just love all of this daylight?!

Today on taste in the shop we’re setting the scene for the May holidays with a glorious Austrian Grüner Veltliner. Pale straw colour, grapefruit and melon on the nose, dry on the palate yet refreshing acidity and a hint of spice.
For reds an Argentinian Malbec from Felino. Deep cherry red colour, hedgerow fruits and plum, classic spice, subtle refined tanins and a super long finish. Both would be superb for pairing as well as easy drinking.

Pop in - say hello😊

Eurovisiooooon!!
Love it or hate it - it’s definitely an institution! Tactical voting here with our Saturday tasting - a lovely Southern French Rosé from Ams Tram Gram. Strawberries and peach on the nose, refreshing acidity. More fruity than a usual Languedoc Rosé but still wonderfully dry.
For reds - a gorgeous fruity Italian Amicale from Veneto. Made partially with air dried grapes to concentrate flavours, oak matured - soft on the palate with a long finish. Perfect for barbecued meats. Both are perfect for the warm weekend and outdoor living. Definitely not a score of neel pwan 😉x

Buongiorno! Come on out of the rain and taste the warmth of Italy 😊

It’s Saturday and that means taste day! Pop in and try an organic Grillo. Pale straw colour, citrus notes with a hint of grapefruit, crisp on the palate with a slight spicy bitterness which would make it perfect for seafood/shellfish.
For reds a Susumaniello, red and black fruits on the nose- cherries coming through on the palate. Full bodied but doesn’t feel it in the mouth due to the acidity making a well balanced experience.
Pop in and try some Italian warmth - we need it this weekend!!

Get Set pour Le Weekend!!
Oh my life what’s that fiery yellow ball in the sky?! Le soleil est revenu!!

On taste today you can guess we have wonderful French double bill. For sunnier times in the garden we have a superb white Carignan. Lots going on here - floral on the nose with subtle notes of nuts and dried fruit. Spice on the finish - would be a great pairing for meatier fish.
For reds a fresh, fruity Cinsault - raspberry on the nose and palate, well balanced acidity and tanins. This would also be excellent chilled! Both from Ams Tram Gram in the Languedoc and low sulphites.

Enjoy le weekend! X

It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it...😁

Our man in the field Michele is having a terrible time in Verona at Vinitaly 24, one of the biggest events in the international wine calendar. Wine spotters among you will notice some serious labels - check out the video links! Luckily for us, our Michele is an official Vinitaly Wine ambassador. His expertise is legendary and we're sure he'll find something precious for you all - but we still hates him, we hates him forever!...

On Taste Today!
Yes we’re celebrating the return of warmer weather with a Mediterranean themed tasting. Drop in and try a Cretan Assyrtiko - dry white and crisp - fullness in the mouth with minerality on the palate. For reds from the Spanish coast we have TIme Waits for No-one - a deep ruby Monastrell with great acidity and balanced tanins, fruit on the nose. This would be great for pairing especially with tomato dishes, tapas, pasta and cured meats. Both are vegan - the red is organic.

Bring on the sun!! With love x
