It’s with a heavy heart that we must announce the closure of our beloved bottle shop. Unfortunately the search for a buyer has proven fruitless and we have taken the difficult decision to close following the Christmas period. Running Sutherland’s in the heart of this fabulous community has been a dream and an unforgettable experience. After life took us away from Hull it became increasingly challenging to run the shop from a distance and the stress is not something I could continue with longer term. Huge thank you to all our wonderful regulars, everyone who attended our events and supported us in any way. We will miss you all and we hope you will miss us! Please do us an almighty favour and get yourself in and stock up on all your favourite boozy delights over the next couple of weeks and help us go out with a bang and empty shelves. We still have stunning wines, whisky, spirits and craft beers now with tasty discounts! Lots of love Mark, George, Franco and Emmy

Cornish made mezcal, with a beautiful coffee variant

One of our best selling whiskys is back in, Raasay, gorgeous bottle with equally beautiful complexity

Kilchoman machir Bay is stocked back up, with its traditional Islay style

And new in is the Lagg core malt, with some serious smoke, with peat levels at 50ppm!

Our wee shop has been nominated for the award of one of the best small businesses in Hull North!

We are delighted to have been nominated, and just want to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported us since starting up in July of 2022.

Your support has allowed us to grow our events and tasting nights, to the extent we were able to hold a wonderful vegan food and wine festival last summer, with help from our friends from other local vegan businesses.

Your continued support has made it very easy to love the work we do, whether it's just briefly recommending a beer wine or spirit or staying for a proper chin wag. We are forever grateful for the custom.

Exciting opportunity to buy a growing established business! As my time in Hull is coming to an end I have made the difficult decision to sell Sutherland’s Wee Bottle Shop. Over the past year, we have brought the best craft beers, organic wines, whisky’s and spirits to The Avenues. Our exciting tasting events have grown more than we could have dreamed with 120 of you cramming into Zoo Cafe for our summer festival. We have built a beautiful community of loyal wine tasters, craft beer drinkers and whisky connoisseurs. We have worked tirelessly over the past year to realise my dream and bring something to the area that I felt was missing. Luckily, enough of you agreed to make us a profitable business within a year, no mean feat in the current times. We would love for someone to take over our community bottle shop and continue building on what we have started.
If you are interested in knowing more please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Nothing will change for now, the shop and events will continue to run while we search for a special person to continue running our lovely wee shop.

🥃 Whisky Launch 🥃 It’s no secret how much we love Lochlea at Sutherland’s. I have been blown away by every release so far and today we launch the Harvest Edition Second Crop. The first Harvest Edition was not only my favourite unpeated dram of last year but was hands down favourite when Patrick from Lochlea hosted a tasting in Hull. Bursting with fresh red berries and cereal, it was like Cranachan in a dram. The Second Crop has not only had an extra year ageing but has a higher proportion of ruby and tawny ports, promising even more berry goodness. I can’t wait to crack myself open a bottle!

🍷 Wine Tasting🍷 It feels like an age since our last wine night (other than the fabulous festival of course). We have been missing the buzz and the fabulous matched food wine combos. We are back with a bang with our old friends .hull taking over the kitchen. Bulgarian wines to knock your socks off and with enthusiasm so infectious you will leave with a grapevine tattooed across your ***. Tickets online or on our website. These always sell fast, so grab yours while you can! Sorry for the price increase, as everything goes up in price we must do the same, businesses that make a loss tend not to hang around too long!

⭐️ Stars of the Show ⭐️ We just got a big delivery of all your favourite wines from the festival! On the whites it was a battle of the Alvarinho’s with the Soalheiro just coming out on top as the best seller. The António and Tempranillo Blanco were surprisingly favourites, much love for these unusual and unique wines. For the reds, our new Ribera Del Duero stole the show with the powerful Dominio Del Bendito a surprise second favourite. Jardim’s Touriga Nacional proudly waved the flag for Portugal. Cava was a runaway in the sparkling wines with a strong showing by the Soalheiro Pet Nat. All these wines are in store now!

🥂🍾What a weekend!🍾 🍷 Thank you to everyone that came along to our 1st Birthday Avenues Wine Festival! I hope you all had a blast, loved the wines and didn’t have too bad a sore head on Sunday. What an amazing way to celebrate our first birthday, over 100 people squeezing up the alley to try our beautiful Iberian wines and tuck in to delicious food from and . Wasn’t it great to feel Zoo buzzing with all the positive energy. Huge thanks to my wife Anna, my parents and our friend Chloe for stepping up to help and George for his never ending enthusiasm. Thanks to and for their hard work on the day and for bringing their fabulous wines into the country. Also to the wonderful musicians, food vendors and the team at Zoo. Mostly, thanks to all our lovey customers!

🙌Hands up Belschnickel fans🙌 Our HU5 neighbours have gone and made a single (yes 1) 5L mini-keg of their latest beer Alphorn, a 5.6% Hefeweizen. If ALL their other beers are anything to go by this will be absolutely stunning. Get in quick to grab this one and avoid disappointment.

Thanks George! Don’t worry, George is still with us. As well as the shop being a year old, George has also worked for us for a whole year. From day 1 he has been providing exemplary customer service, treating everyone like a long lost friend, recommending beers, wines and whisky perfect for your tastes. He has shown unbelievable passion and dedication to learning as much as he can about all our products, research, training courses and plenty of “sampling”. It makes my day when I get DM’s or read reviews about customers great experiences in the shop. Thanks George, we wouldn’t have made it without you! George is in all this weekend, come and say thank you for yourself.

🎉🍻Happy 1st Birthday to us! 🎉 🥂 Today it is officially 1 year since we opened our doors to our lovely customers. It’s been quite the journey with many highs and (luckily) slightly fewer lows! We couldn’t have done this without the support of all our amazing customers, no matter how many times you have visited, thank you! The support of other local indie businesses have made it all the sweeter, whether thats been helping us with tasting events, bouncing ideas/moans and helping promote each other. WE HAVE BREWED A BEER with our pals , introducing Dudelsack Scottish Export, a traditional beer style elevated to craft perfection.
