We’re looking forward to tomorrow’s whisky tasting, we’ll be in early to get the mulled wine on and the Christmas vibes going, Marco is in charge of the music but don’t let that put you off!

Even if you’re new to the shop please feel free to pop in, everyone’s welcome, there’ll be plenty of samples of whisky and mulled wine for the adults. Kids and well behaved dogs welcome too (no whisky for them but we do have chocolate and dog biscuits! 😂)

A little bit of background info on Living Souls, the whisky bottlers who are hosting our tasting on Saturday (see Whisky Tasting - Living Souls).

They’ll be bringing along their new range, consisting of:

15-Year-Old Blended Scotch (46% ABV):
Drawn from Living Souls’ solera system, to which exciting new whiskies are continually added, this blend evokes the casual opulence of a twilight dinner by the coast with notes of sherry and tapas-style meats.

An 18-Year-Old Ledaig Single Malt (41% ABV): Aged in refill butts and hogsheads and ideal for cosy evenings, the blend of 18-year-old Ledaig and Tobermory single malts provides a peaceful, pastoral whisky with elements of fresh apple and smoke.

A 19-Year-Old 'Kildalton' (42% ABV):
A “Kildalton” Islay blended malt matured in refill bourbon and sherry casks, this 19-year-old is tailor-made for bonfire nights, featuring all the classic Islay hallmarks of peat-smoke and briny sea air.

A 40-Year-Old Blended Scotch (41.2% ABV): Laid down to marry in 1998 in a single refill sherry butt, the exceptionally well-aged blend boasts notes of ripe, juicy fruit and woodsy freshness, showcasing the depth of flavour and complexity that comes with time.

Ok so the shops are full of Christmas stuff already (it’s only Halloween 😭) but maybe now is the time to get your gifts in early and enjoy some smugness in December!

One of our best sellers is Edradour, it’s the smallest independently run distillery, in Pitlochry. It’s not available in the big shops and it’s Marco’s personal favourite! It’s hand made by just three distillers, who really care about what they do. It’s great gift for whisky enthusiasts, who appreciate the small batch, handmade aspect of this delightful dram! 🥃

Here’s a little background!

Distillery Digest - Edradour, Pitlochry, Perthshire (Highland)

Edradour, (Eadar Dhà Dhobhar in Scots Gaelic) meaning “between two rivers" is the smallest traditionally run distillery in Scotland.

When it was founded in 1825 it was run by only three men - nowadays just two, proudly sticking to traditional distillation methods, “Edradour stands alone as the last stronghold of handmade single malt whisky from a farm distillery”.

All of their whisky is non chill-filtered (chill filtration removes natural oils and esters producing a clearer spirit, but many argue this is detrimental to the complexity and mouthfeel of the whisky) nor do they use any artificial colourings to darken or colour match batches.

Edradour has been owned by the Signatory Vintage Scotch Whisky Company since 2002, Signatory, founded in 1988, is primarily an independent bottler specialising in single cask, cask strength and un-chillfiltered bottlings from distilleries all over Scotland.

Edradour’s classic range is heavily sherried with rich deep colour and a dinstinctive fruit cake sweetness, which lends itself fantastically to a winter dram round the fire.

They also have a range of different wine and bourbon finishes and a few days out of the year produce Ballechin, a formidable smoky expression with a phenol content of at least 50ppm. Find out more at www.edradour.com

Bn8 - The eighth bottling of Bunnahabhain in Elixir Distillers' Elements of Islay series, Bn8 is a marriage of American oak and ex-sherry hogsheads that boasts fruity, savoury and peppery notes with a hint of bitter chocolate. Bottled at cask strength (58.4% vol) non chill filtered and natural colour.
A bargain at £38.99!

Peat - Another ongoing release from Elements of Islay is this "Pure Islay". This is the little brother of the "Peat Full Proof" and again is a blended malt from a handful of Islay distilleries with notes of fruit, spice and smoke, but with less power. bottled at 45.0%vol, non chill filtered and natural colour.
A bargain at £22.99!

“Agronomy: a branch of agriculture that deals with field crop production and soil
management”

We’re proudly stocking a new small batch locally produced gin, hand crafted and created in Ayrshire at Altonhill Farm, Kilmarnock.

Their London dry gin is exceptionally smooth and distilled with heaps of juniper and soft red berries, their ‘blowin’ free’ gin is distilled with dark berries and rose petals.

The lovely Elaine, the talent behind these excellent gins was kind enough to bring some samples in for us to try and we were only too happy to oblige, we really enjoyed both and think a perfect serve would be a premium plain tonic to showcase the subtle botanicals and maybe some frozen berries for garnish!
