We have a special organic Beaujolais Nouveau in store today, fresh out of the box, which is hand crafted with a passion by the Family and team of Domaine de la Couvette, capturing all the freshness of Gamay, with bright, crunchy red fruit flavours, delightful hints of spice and some earthy notes. This wine offers a supple, easy-to-drink style and so for a short time only we’re offering it on our ‘by-the-glass’ menu from tomorrow. It’s the next in our much awaited series of Wine Tasting & Film events at the on Friday 20th September.

Join us for a screening of the new Widow Clicquot film, a drama telling the story behind the V***e Clicquot champagne family and business that began in the late 18th century. As the film goes along, we’ll stop for champagne tastings at appropriate moments to the story. What’s not to like!

After her husband’s death, the expectation was that the Clicquot cellars and vineyards would pass into other hands - but Madame Clicquot had other ideas. Flouting convention, she grasped the reins of their wine business, defying her critics and ultimately revolutionizing the champagne industry, establishing her as one of the world’s first great businesswomen.

Previous wine tasting and film evenings have been a hoot so don’t miss out as there are limited seats available. Tickets are £45 and although the film is rated a 15, only those over 18 can attend. Tickets available on the website or at their box office.

Hungary Part 2 What an epic day!! A jeep tour of the Sebestyén vineyards with accompanying vino, lunch and tasting at Sebestyen Winery, Tokaj tasting back at Takler, authentic Hungarian charcuterie made by our hosts and a gypsy folk band. Every single wine we tasted (and there were lots of them) was elegant and complex and even if it wasn’t to our taste, the graft, craft and love packed into each bottle was evident. An extra shout out to Csilla who was tireless in making our trip memorable, even serving us her Mum’s delicious stuffed cabbage and strudel. Wine highlights were - Sebestyen Indigo 2023 made from Zweigelt - a highly underestimated grape in Hungary due to its higher yield but Bramble and Blackberry flavours shined. Sebestyen Mozaik- A true expression of Szeksard with Kekfrankos, Kadarka, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc and Merlot. It is their spin on Bikaver but more specifically reflects their individual style in a Hungarian classic. Overall highlight - The sense of pride, respect for history and emphasis on family and friendship in a country that has had its fair share of hardship.
