They’re back!

Landing at Caviste on Thursday 6th June, two of our customer favourites will return: J. Mourat’s Collection Rosé & Red.

These star wines had flown the coop, but they have come home.

Vignobles Mourat | Fiefs Vendée, France

When listing the traditional landscapes of the Loire Valley - Sancerre, Vouvray, Pouilly-Fumé, the region Fiefs Vendée is not one that springs to mind.

The family property of Château Marie du Fou, located in this oft overlooked area, has been around since 1880 and has survived the Hundred Years War and the French Revolution.

An organic estate from 2006 and in the winery everything is done to respect the integrity of the grapes so that the wines are all first class.

The J. Mourat wines have a contemporary approach which is focused on finding the fruit and a taste of fun with a great drinkability.

At Caviste we often extol the beautiful locations from which our wines are sourced. But our heart is here in Northern Hampshire with our crystal clear chalk streams, abundance of wildlife and stunning countryside. Sometimes, when the sun is shining and the wines are well chilled, there's nowhere else we'd rather be. Come and see us soon and share our little patch of paradise. Cheers! 🥂🥂🥂

Shhh… Listen carefully… It’s the return of the wine that out whispers the Angels…

This wine caught the imagination, stirred the senses, and delivered a lively, fruit salad infused mouthful of Southern French sunshine into our corner of Hampshire, when we released it last year.

Now it's back!

If you haven’t had the pleasure of the pinnacle of Provence rosé, you simply must give it a try. If you have, it’s time to re-fill your fridge!

Portugal is a nation that has a rich history of winemaking, using varietals that we know, but plenty that we don’t. Welcome to Baga & celebrate International Baga Day with us!

-

Bill is our most avid “Baga Buff”:

“I love the breadth of versatility of this grape variety. There always seems to be a journey with Baga, from fresh fruits into notes of pine and more savoury spices there is something to tickle every tastebud!

Baga can be mid-bodied, fruity and often deliciously accessible but rarely lacks character with its inherent structure of tannin.

Often compared to Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo I feel there is an injustice in doing so. Baga is Baga."

-

We're opening up some Baga at both our Overton & Newlyns shops for International Baga Day on 4th May 2024. Stop by and explore Baga with a bottle of Niepoort's Lagar de Baixo.

Howling its way from the hills of Provence, we are delighted to welcome back Le Loup Bleu 'Vol de Nuit' Provence Rosé.

This former Caviste favourite has returned, prowling its way into our Newlyns & Overton shops, to reclaim its territory!
-
Produced in the hills of Puyloubier to the east of Aix, Domaine Le Loup Bleu is owned by Marc and Sylvie Dubois, who work the land by hand, with the help of their daughter Caroline.
-
Delicately pink, think of a lightly coloured rose petal. The flavours of redcurrant, cherry, and a hint of fennel, leap from the glass!

Out of this Galaxy! | The Lakes Distillery

Just touched down from Cumbria, a rather special release: The Lakes Galáxia

This is the final bottling in the Whiskymaker’s Editions range. This stunning whisky unites the most admired characters from the series; a celebration of what has come before.

-

Tasting Note: With its intoxicating combination of seductively perfumed ginger and cocoa, creamy wood spice, candied pecans and manuka honey, the flavours are truly out of this world.

Hattingley Valley Wines, one of our local wineries and just 25 minutes from our Newlyns shop, produce some of the finest fizz in England.

Predominantly known for their standout sparklings - of which the 2015 Blanc de Blancs is one of our MD’s favourite wines - each bottle is a testament to their dedication to excellence, from vine to bottle.

As well as their brilliant bubbles, Hattingley's still wines - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Rosé - are outstanding. Each bottle highlights the skill of the team and the intense flavour profile that English wines are capable of delivering.

- Meet the Winemaker: Rob -

Rob MacCulloch MW is the head winemaker at Hattingley Valley.

With two decades of global experience, Rob specialises in producing sparkling, white, rosé, and red wines in various climates.

He’s also one of a very select group in the world as a Master of Wine.

We’re very pleased to announce our place as one of the finalists in the INSPIRE awards!

The in Basingstoke & Deane are a celebration of creativity, dedication, and success in the local community. They shine a spotlight on businesses and individuals who have made a significant impact through their work, inspiring others to reach new heights of achievement.

A huge thanks to everyone who has supported us to this point! We look forward to celebrating with our fellow finalists on the big night in July, and in the meanwhile we’ll continue to bring our incredible wines, spirits, beers and cider to the good folk of Hampshire! 🍾

Not a day goes by where we don’t have someone coming into the shops, or emailing in, asking about Rusden Wines: where they are, and how long until they’re back.

Fortunately, the wait is almost over…

We are very pleased to announce that Rusden wines will be back in late May!

You can pre-order your wines at Caviste, today.

-

At the heart of Rusden lies a rich family legacy.

Founded in 1979 by Dennis and Christine Canute, Rusden remains a true family affair, with sons Christian and Adrian carrying on the tradition today.

-

Rusden's commitment to excellence is evident in every bottle, thanks in large part to their meticulous vineyard management practices.

-

While the powerhouse of the Barossa - Shiraz - remains the cornerstone of their range, featuring in blends (School Days, Ripper Creek, Driftsand) and the standalone Black Guts, they also produce others…

Grenache, Mataro, and Cabernet Sauvignon, form the backbone of any self-respecting South Australian vineyard, but Rusden also grow Chenin Blanc, Zinfandel, Trousseau, and Cinsault.

We have some very sad news... There's been a breakage of some outstanding Nebbiolo from New Zealand 😭

A tragic end for a gorgeous wine; especially as there isn't much to go around. But don't worry, it was just one bottle, and we do have some more.

Always so sad when this happens but on the bright side, we are now offering a free wine smelling experience at Caviste Newlyns! 🍷

Have you got any equally tragic stories to share?!

Last night we celebrated what has become our Annual Oyster Festival. A full house of 25 guests feasted on delicious oysters native to our UK shores supplied by Tristan Hugh-Jones. Our whole team enjoyed helping to chuck over 390 oysters!
We were also delighted to welcome James Frost of Quinta de Sant'Ana who presented 4 of their amazing wines.
Thank you to all our guests, we hope you enjoyed yourselves and much as we did!

We are very excited to announce a new event, which we are sure will be one of the highlights of Caviste's summer.

Pol Roger & Sir Winston Champagne Dinner
Thursday 6th June
The Cross Barn, Odiham, RG29 1JX

We thought the 80th Anniversary of D-Day would be an appropriate date to mark 150 years since Sir Winston's birth and 175 years since the foundation of Pol Roger Champagne, Winston's favourite.

We will be joined by Martin Heidsieck, 6th generation of the Pol Roger family, who will lead us through a succession of the great cuvees of Pol Roger, culminating with a glass of Sir Winston Churchill 2015.

Tickets 125 per person

Click on the link in the bio for further details and to secure a place.

14/02/2024

Two tickets left!

Celebrating relationships in winemaking with a selection of bottles that we love.

From husband-and-wife teams to friends, brothers, sisters, and broader family networks, we will take you through a selection of some of the most exciting wines in our range.

We will introduce you to little-known producers whose stories encompass the many relationships we have in life.

From our friend Benoit Badoz, a 10th generation owner in South East France to a delightful couple in Portugal who have had 7 sons who call the farm and winery home. But it’s not just the classic partnerships we will explore. The Brothers Thorle from the Pfalz will grace the table, as well as two old friends whose love for their country, heritage, indigenous grape varieties and each other have made them two of the most exciting winemakers in Bulgaria, a wine region often misunderstood but steeped in thousands of years of grape growing history.
