Belfast Telegraph Drink of the week
Pierre Chainier Sauvignon Blanc
Pierre Chainier Sauvignon Blanc 11.5% RRP £13.00 Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley differs from that produced half a world away in New Zealand’s Marlborough region. The southern hemisphere Sauvignon tends to be punchier with tropical fruit flavours whereas its French counterpart zings with green apple and grapefruit. This refreshing example of the latter, from the wine estates of Pierre Chainier, is typical of the Loire style. Light and citrusy, it combines notes of gooseberry and white flowers on the nose with lemon and peach flavours on the palate. Try it with light appetisers, vegetable and fish dishes, or white meat. Available from Grange Wine Merchants, Holywood and Donaghadee; Madigan’s Court, Belfast; Donard Wines, Newcastle; First and Last, Jonesborough; Gee’s Wine Shop, Derry; Kelly’s Off-Licence, Maghera; ICE off-licences, Omagh and Strabane.
