Now for the sciencey bit!

The tannins give the apple its "bite" and act as the preservative, whilst the acid prevents the taste from appearing flat. Most of the cider produced contains a blend of all four types of apples, with added sugar to achieve the desired sweetness.

We grow 8 cider apple varieties on our family farm to produce our ciders! 🍎

Look at the beautiful rolling hills around our farm!

In 1883 Herefordshire had 27,000 acres of orchards, being harvested by no fewer than 12 cider factories that opened around Hereford between 1870-1900.

By 1936, the increase in demand for dessert apples meant a decline in cider production, with Herefordshire's orchard acreage dropping to 22,413, 14,500 of these being cider orchards.

Despite the cider industry having its fair share of environmental and economic problems, the golden drink has been popular in Britain for centuries, continuing to gain popularity and now spreading internationally.

There’s nothing quite like a summer evening in Herefordshire with a fresh glass of local cider 🍻

Did you know cider dates back to Celtic times?

The Celts regarded the apple as food of the gods and cider was used in various rituals. However, cultivation of apples in Britain didn't take place until the 5th century AD, with the Romans.

By 1300 there were references to cider production in over 10 counties across Britain, including Worcestershire and Herefordshire – where we are based!

The earliest written reference to cider is found in the Wycliffe "Cider Bible", printed in the 15th century. This historic book is housed in the Chained Library at Hereford Cathedral.

Cider production in Britain really does have a long and rich history! 🍏

Happy Friday everyone! 😊

It's time to meet our directors! Sue and her brother Rob started in 2014 with just two cider varieties, and they covered all the different business roles themselves. They took over in 2018 and released our Apple and Rosé low alcohol ciders in 2020! 🍏

9 years on and Sue’s role as a Director sees her keep everyone on track, visiting our fab customers all over the UK and attending events. Whilst Rob oversees all work on the family farm, carefully growing, picking, and pressing our precious apples! (and lambing in the spring! 🐑)

Our farm sits comfortably within 200 acres of orchards, all planted on the idyllic rolling hills of Herefordshire.

The 200 acres of orchards are equivalent to over 150 American football fields! It takes our farm workers approximately 2 months to harvest all our apples in the fall months 🚜🍏

Here at PULP Cider, we are proud of our heritage. We stay true to our craft and are dedicated to working with our landscape, never against it 🍏

We grow 'em, we pick 'em, we press 'em!

Hello! We are PULP Cider. We are a single estate cider producer based in Herefordshire, U.K.

Built on a desire to craft no-nonsense cider, we smash our apples the right way. Caring for our orchards for over a century, we take our families traditional skills and use them alongside modern techniques, coupled with our team of expert cider makers, we are proud of what we craft 🚜.

Our sustainable methods make us one of the largest U.K. cider producers with the smallest drinks production miles. Our 'Pip to Pint’ production cycle all happens within a 5-mile radius of the farm and our waste pulp is used in local anaerobic digesters to produce 'clean' energy ♻️.

Keen to protect our farm, local environment, and traditional craft, respecting the apple is core. To maintain our farmscape and industry for future generations to enjoy, it's so important that we improve sustainability where we can and minimise our production impact.

We might not take ourselves too seriously but we're very serious about our craft! 🍏
