Well here is something to brighten up January! There are just over 1,000 independent wine merchants in the UK. The industry magazine has just ranked us as number 15! This is something we could never have achieved without both the hard work and commitment of the whole team and of course all your support as customers. Be it by your purchases, attendance at tastings or dinners or by simply recommending us to wine loving friends. Thank you 🙏

The team here at Ta**us will be raising a glass tonight after receiving this rather lovely message from Being in the Harpers Top 50 list means that we have been listed in the top 5% of the 1000+ independent wine shops in the UK for 7 years in a row. In restaurant terms this is akin to retaining a Michelin Star. (There are 239 restaurants in GB with Michelin red or green stars of a total of 786 who class themselves as fine dining.)
The Harpers listing reflects many things including the curation of our range, impeccable levels of customer service and constant innovation.
For 2024 we were placed 22nd we will let you know our final position for 2025 when we know it next January. Cheers!

This morning we are showcasing the wines of choice of our staff members. We ask what are you drinking over the weekend and why? Cheek out the delicious wines we just had to have this weekend!

John – Rippa Dorii – John and his wife were sitting down to some spaghetti and fancied a nice wine. Rippa Dorii is a great wine from the Ribera del Duero Notes of bramble nutmeg and spices. A deep luscious red wine perfect to pair with their dinner.
Matt- Caparrone Pecorino – Matt and his family are in salad season. He wanted a fresh light white wine that works well with greens and rose isn’t doing it for him. Caparrone has peach and citrus on the palate with crisp acidity and refreshing minerality.
Lucy – Larry Cherubino Chardonnay – Lucy is looking forward to the Larry Cherubino Dinner here at Ta**us Wines. Plus, a wine to share with her mum. This Chardonnay has characters of peach, lemon and delicate oak, yet it is clean and rounded.
Jake – Circumstance Merlot – Jake’s dad is South African, and a good Stellenbosch is always welcome at their house. They’ll be hosting fellow South Africans this weekend for a braai, and this is the drink of choice. Black cassis and black fruits abound, perfect with the big meat pairings of a braai!
James – Mullineux Syrah – Some of the most innovative winemaking in South Africa. Also specialising in sustainability and sustainable farming. Delivering a powerful Syrah that has depth and a silky-smooth finish.
David – Soldiers Block Chardonnay – David’s bang for buck best wine under a tenner in the shop. He and his wife enjoy the mellow flavours and they will be taking it on holiday to share with friends this weekend.
Joe – Rimauresq Cru Classe – This was the first rose that Joe was blown away by. He loved it from the first sip. This wine is all about delicate winemaking to get the best of the blend. Characters of strawberry, raspberry and red fruit delicately mingle with the evocative aroma of the Provencal garrigue.

Juvé & Camps Gran Reserva Cava is some of the most aged and complex around. The bodegas is family-owned and operated, dating back to 1796 and making sparkling wine since 1921. In 1976, the 'Riserva de la Familia' was released to the public. This wine had only been reserved for the family previously and soon became the iconic wine of this brand that strives for high quality sparkling wine.

Deeply rich in colour with golden highlights, this wine is fresh but also abundantly flavourful. Aged for 36 months, the resulting tastes abound with flavours of toasted brioche and croissant. But this wine is well balanced with good acidity and delicious white peach, greengage and crisp apple on the palate. The finish is long but fresh, almost the as if you had enjoyed a sorbet rather than wine.

We have both the standard bottles (£19.99) and magnums (£44.99) in stock, so its a perfect opportunity to taste some of the best that Spain has to offer.

What a wonderful evening with some special wines from Inama Azienda Agricola. It was an evening of great conviviality and Luca Inama gave an interesting presentation on the ways that he and his family are striving continually to make some of the world's best Soave. Il Soave
Luca also showcased Inama's red wines and they were some of the guests' favourites. The 100% Carmenere, Carminium, was exceptional, rare but a real gem.
Thank you to all who took part, to Inama, to Winetraders and to Tandem Catering for the lovely menu.

A former Historian, James has now found his passion in wine. Other passions include rugby, art and learning French. Zut Alors!

Rupert was very honoured to be invited to the 39th Investiture Dinner of the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino on Thursday night.

This literally translates as “The Spanish Knights of Wine” and acknowledges those who have been exceptional in supporting Spanish wine.

The evening was made even more special as one of this year’s three new members was fellow member - Congratulations Hal! 🥂

Don Pablo, the Chancellor, described the evening’s pageantry as a cross between James Bond and Harry Potter which was pretty much spot on!

Great speeches by the wonderful and His Excellency Don Jose Pascual Marco Martinez The Ambassador of Spain kept the guests very entertained 🇪🇸
