On this day in 1944, 80 years ago, the Allied Forces launched Operation Overlord. This massive assault, designed to retake Nazi-occupied France, is known as D-Day and Dunsfold Aerodrome, our near neighbour, was one of many participants.

It wasn’t until dawn broke on the return journey to Dunsfold that the crews were aware that an invasion was fully underway as a gap in the cloud revealed the sea was black with ships and the sky full of aircraft. Despite being unaware of the extent of the invasion, which is known as the largest amphibious invasion in world history executed by land, sea and air, their involvement in the Normandy landings earned them the title ‘Heroes of the Night’.

Today we remember and commemorate. Lest we forget.

Last night we had the pleasure of hosting Riccardo Tedeschi of Tedeschi Wines for a stunning Italian Winemaker’s Feast 🇮🇹 🍷

Tedeschi’s elegantly rich Soave, fresh Valpolicella, and bold Amarone wines were complimented by an ever-impressive menu from Tandem Catering (we will immediately be attempting to recreate the pigeon salad with balsamic figs and roasted grapes – divine). Ending on the heavenly match of chocolate tart paired with Recioto della Valpolicella, which sold out on the night. (We knew everyone secretly loves a dessert wine!)

Thank you to the wonderful guests who joined us, who made it such a fabulous evening. We are already looking forward to the next feast on 28th June.

Today we were lucky enough to be part of tasting with as part of the Sakura (cherry blossom) Season 🌸

It was a fabulous opportunity to indulge our ever-growing interest in sake and discover their range of dry and sweet sakes, including; Umeshu, Yuzushu, Honjozo Tokubetsu, and Jummai Daiginjo Genshu.

Not only do we love pairing sake with traditional Japanese cuisine such as sushi, but we look forward to trying dry sake with hard cheese, Yuzushu in cocktails and sweet sake alongside fruity puddings 🍮

At the end of April, the dynamic duo Lucy (Ta**us GM) and Emma Dallyn (Lucy’s mum, who you may have seen helping at our Winemaker Feasts or turning our store into a winter wonderland last Christmas) are taking on (Snowdon) for children’s charity Action Medical Research

They will be setting off at sunrise on this triathlon-style adventure challenge aiming to finish before the sun sets!

We were thrilled to kick off the first of local brewery ’s Thursday night events last night in support of 💚

The wine tasting Rupert hosted with our friends at Firebird was to decide the new wines for their shop and mezzanine bar, which we’ve long been fans of with its original wall art, twinkling lights, and cosy seating. The awesome space currently holds live music events at the weekends and more events are on the horizon. Keep an eye on their social media to find out more!

Aged in Bourbon, American Oak Oloroso, and Pedro Ximenez casks, the newest chapter in the Legacy Series Torabhaig Cnoc na Mòine 🥃

Aromas of orange peel and dying embers with a subdued peat smoke giving way to vanilla and freshly sawn oak. On the palate, the Torabhaig Cnoc Na Mòine opens with peat smoke before the light spirit brings in pepper, balsamic and gentle spice alongside fragrant touches of cedar and leather. The sherry-cask influence shines through on the finish, balancing perfectly with the peat smoke and spice of Torabhaig spirit.

Brunello di Montalcino is a crucial addition to the cellar of any savvy wine buyer and Rupert was lucky enough to sample the outstanding and highly collectible 2019 vintage from pioneering Italian producer Gaja at sophisticated London hotspot yesterday, ahead of their release today 🍷 🇮🇹

Gaja makes the analogy that ‘Rennina’ is the Barbaresco, whereas ‘Sugarille’ is the Barolo, while wine critic Antonio Galloni sums up 2019 as “the vintage we’ve all been waiting for”.

This week Team Ta**us had a jam-packed day of London tastings 🗒️

At the West Coast tasting, ’s 2018 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon was looking fantastic but ’s 2018 Howell Mountain Cabernet was Rupert’s wine of the day 🍷 It’s also always great to taste something already on our shelves and the Isabelle Pinot Noir was looking extremely promising (so much so that Rupert will be adding a case to his own cellar!)

On to with .clarke and (not) . Oz on his usual effervescent form and it was a pleasure to taste the new releases from some of our long-standing NZ suppliers and , as well as finding a great new from 🇳🇿

And finally on to Boutinot at the historic where we caught up with the wonderful and (ever a pleasure) and the finds included a very interesting by Chateau de Poite (Corentin Aubrion pictured with the very bottle) and an amazing Barbaresco from Alessandro di Gresy from Marchesi di Gresy

A full-on day that has given us much food for thought. Keep your eyes out for new wines coming to our shelves and website before long…

Warre’s 2020 Vintage Port was one of just 27 wines with a perfect 100-point score from Decanter in 2023 and the only wine from Portugal. Marking Warre’s 350th anniversary, it is intensely fruit-driven with unparalleled concentration and elegance that belies the challenging conditions of the 2020. Still ploughed by horses each year, it takes three of these deep-rooted 80- to 100-year-old vines to produce a single bottle of this astonishing port. Hence only 2,400 bottles were declared to commemorate the 350th anniversary of Warre.

We’ve done it again!🏆 🍾

There are over 1,000 specialist independent wine stores in the UK and we are absolutely delighted to announce we have been named in the Top 50 by Harper’s Wine & Spirit magazine for the 7th year in a row.

We’re honoured to be included in this very prestigious list as voted for and judged by professionals of the UK wine trade. The whole team is thrilled at this year’s position, coming in at number 22.
