Our new High Street shop includes a tasting space where we can host private Gordon & MacPhail whisky tastings for up to eight guests at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm each day. Established as a grocery business in 1895 in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside region, we originally curated all manner of groceries from around the world such as teas, coffees, wines and whisky. Their appreciation of the rich t

apestry of flavours they encountered led the founders, James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail, to seek out and complement this varied stock with equally fine produce in the form of Speyside’s many and varied single malt Scotch whiskies. Gordon & MacPhail South Street is currently open with a range of over 800 whiskies and an exceptional range of wines and spirits. We are an independent bottler of whiskies from throughout Scotland, an exporter, a distiller (owning Benromach distillery and The Cairn distillery) and one of the UK’s top independent whisky, premium spirits and wine wholesale specialists. Our knowledgeable staff can assist you in selecting the perfect accompaniment to best compliment your menus and suit your budget.

Glenfarclas Millenium Decanter:

On the 1st January 2000, the new Millenium, The Grant Family and staff, selected only a few casks to be filled with the first spirit of the New Year. As far as we are aware, this is the only time this has happened. The cask chosen was a First Fill Sherry Butt from Jose Miguel Martin.

Only 600 of these decanters were filled with this precious whisky, bottled at 47.4 ABV and at natural colour. This 24-year-old whisky has been bottled from a Single Sherry Butt and is truly a rarity.

Our Story

When James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail announced the opening of their 'centrical and commodious premises' on South Street,Elgin, on 24th May 1895 they would be proud to see it still trading today. When you visit the shop you will be greeted with the aroma of home cooked local gammon, the largest selection of the finest cheeses available in North East Scotland and shelves packed with a fantastic array of high quality grocery products. Our delicatessen department stocks a range of cold meats, bacon, sausages and various continental delicacies. No visit to the Gordon & MacPhail store would be complete without a visit to the Whisky Room. Stocking around 1000 different single malt whiskies, the Whisky Room attracts customers from throughout the world to its crowded shelves. Browsing through the wide selection of whiskies, many of which are very old and extremely rare, you have entered the Aladdin’s Cave of whisky.
