This beauty from Campbeltown arrived last week- heavily peated small batch number 12 from Single Malt

Producer's Notes:

Nose: Creamy butterscotch and caramel notes in the beginning, with the development of notes of rye bread and tea leaf.

Palate: A familiar oiliness and smokiness is introduced on the palate, with notes of Iberico ham and brandy snaps.

Finish: A gentle finish, there are notes of lemon sherbet, honeycomb and mint, with the peat smoke carrying through to the finish.

At £52, this one won't hang around long!

New in from Dornoch Distillery is this Torabhaig, aged over 7 years.
Here's what the Thompson Bros say about this one:

Nose: smells like an old sailor’s jacket left on a nail outside a
smokehouse in armadale. buttery capers, mercurochrome, ozone, chalk,
clean smoke, rockpool, grilled pineapples with tropical zest, laphroaig
oysters and sage.

Palate: sweet peat to the fore, sea salted toffee, less of the brightness
exhibited on the nose and more buttery depth, like jazz at 3 a.m. followed
by some white peppery spice and charred oak.

Finish: rich, smoky caramel lingers alongside bonfire embers. a classy
close with a breath of salinity. like kissing a mackerel after a
thunderstorm.

returned to our shelves last week- these fortified wines are from the producers who are providing casks for future Port of Leith whisky.

1. Oloroso Sherry- produced in Spain from Bodegas Baron. 'Dried fruits, complex oak and a balanced sweetness with hints of spice'

2. Manzanilla Sherry- also produced in Spain by Bodegas Baron, this is a far drier style of sherry. Perfect with some sunshine and olives! 'Bone dry with fresh lemon zest, peaches and almonds with a doughy flavour that lingers on your palate'

3. Martha's Reserve Tawny Port- This estate has been producing port in the Douro Valley since mid 18th Century. 'Medium bodied with cherries, plums and cassis, as well as a gentle nutty note'

We've also restocked on Port of Leith's Lind & Lime Gin, and Table Whisky. More on these on our website!

Not long in from Ardnamurchan Distillery we've got their new Midgie release.
25% peated, and 75% unpeated spirit meets as cask make up of 50% ex bourbon barrels, 48% ex port barriques and 2% sherry casks.
This adds up to 'salt-baked pear, meadowsweet, wildflowers, lemon thyme, sultanas, cherrywood embers, cocoa powder and pink peppercorns'

It's gone down a treat at some of our tastings this week👏

The latest release from Lindores Abbey Distillery is available now- Friar John Cor Cask Strength Congregation Chapter III.

Lindores tell us, “We are delighted to share Chapter III with whisky lovers around the world. This release continues our tribute to Friar John Cor, whose historic distillation in 1494 inspired our craft and the foundation of the distillery itself. Chapter III is the boldest and most tantalising expression yet, and we look forward to sharing it with our fans across the globe.”

Tasting notes: A velvety texture unveils dark syrup, raisins, and figs, layered with vibrant spice, dark chocolate, and nutty undertones.

£65 and available now at 👇

Next up from Holyrood Distillery is Pitch- this has been created using malt that is typically used to make dark porter beer (Scotch Pot Malt and Brown Malt), and two yeasts that are typically used in red wine production.
Tasting notes are:
NOSE
Cacao, blackcurrant, honey
PALATE
Sweet and rich with stewed red fruit and spicy green peppers
FINISH
Hints of coffee, raisins and oak spice

“Think chocolate and hazelnuts from the malt, with the yeast
specially selected to boost the chocolate notes giving it a richer
flavour. The chocolatey spirit is then matured in Oloroso casks
dialling up nutty notes. It’s like being chased by a fruit and nut bar
determined to give you a giant hug.”

A very interesting dram indeed!
