It’s Beaujolais Nouveau Day 🎉
Beaujolais Nouveau is a young red wine from Beaujolais in the Burgundy wine region of France made with Gamay grapes harvested just six to eight weeks before bottling.
By law, the annual release of this wine takes place at precisely 12.01 am on the third Thursday of November. The wines owes its easy drinking style to a winemaking process called carbonic maceration, a technique that preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the wine, without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins. So what makes this such an eventful release? A clever marketing campaign in the 70’s introduced the concept of a race to carry the first bottles released for consumption in the brasseries and restaurants of Paris. This race still continues to this day and is accompanied by fireworks and festivities all over the Beaujolais region. Any excuse for a party! 🍷
We will have the following two vintages for you to buy this Thursday.
Domaine de la Couvette, Beaujolais Nouveau, France, 2024
Gautier Marion is the fifth generation of the family to manage Domaine de la Couvette, tucked into the gently undulating countryside of Southern Beaujolais.
This organic Beaujolais Nouveau is hand crafted with a passion by the Family and team of Domaine de la Couvette, capturing all the freshness of the Gamay grape, with bright, crunchy red fruit flavours, delightful hints of spice and some earthy notes in the smooth finish.
