HEALING WITH PAST-LIFE REGRESSION
Denise Linn was shot and left for dead at the age of 17. This caused her to have a near-death experience which profoundly changed her and set her on a spiritual quest where she explored many healing traditions, including those of her own Cherokee ancestors, but also other native healing traditions. Today she is a renowned spiritual teacher and bestselling author, and has through her own healing journey helped thousands of others connect more fully with their soul’s wisdom. Here she explains the power of past-life regression.
How did your own journey into discovering past lives and the power of healing start?
To answer that question, I’m going to need to take a step back to when I was 17 years old, and as a teenager I would have never believed in anything such as past lives or angels or heaven. My parents were scientists and although I am Native American on my mother’s side she wasn’t very interested in spirituality. But one afternoon, when I was 17, I was on a little motorbike and someone I didn’t know was following me and he rammed his car into my motorbike. Then he turned around and came back and he pulled out a gun and shot me.
What happened after that was remarkable. In the hospital there was some time where the doctors actually thought I had died, and I remember leaving my body and going to a place that was extremely beautiful and so familiar. It felt as if I was home, and then there was a voice that said, “You can’t stay here, you’ve got to go back. There’s some things you need to do,” and I did not want to leave because I felt like I was home.
The body I came back into was so damaged, as I had lost a kidney, a spleen and an adrenal gland, and a six-inch tube had replaced part of my aorta. A bullet had ripped through my spine, so a part of my intestines was removed, as well as a piece of my stomach and a good part of one lung. So there was a tremendous amount of damage, but I healed really quickly. In fact it seemed almost unbelievable how quickly I healed.
That experience catapulted me into a whole new pathway of life and I wanted to understand more about that place I had been to. I also wanted to understand about healing, because if my body healed so quickly maybe there was a way that I could help other people heal as well.
I travelled the world and trained with people of native cultures because I thought somehow they have got to have the secrets. I started a healing practice and I was a pretty good healer. Sometimes I was booked up a year in advance.
After a while I began to realise that sometimes our physical conditions are symptoms of deeper beliefs and experiences that we have had, which we have not yet resolved. So I thought that perhaps if I take people back to early childhood, to the root of whatever the problem is, then that would help them heal. So I began regressing people back into early childhood, but then one time I had someone who had come to me with ulcers, and as she regressed back into childhood she said, “I’m being poisoned.” I thought, oh, my gosh, in her early childhood someone poisoned her, and then she said, “I’m being poisoned by my husband’s enemies,” and I’m thinking, “What’s she talking about, she’s never been married.” And what had happened was that she had catapulted back into a past life where her husband had political beliefs that were unpopular, and as a woman she had no power so she felt helpless. Her husband’s enemies came in and forced poison down her, which ate holes away in her stomach and killed her. In her present life she had experienced a sense of feeling helpless which had reactivated the same holes in her stomach.
That was an eye-opener for me, and I realised that sometimes trying to deal with problems in this life is like trying to mow over dandelions – if you do not get to the root they are going to keep popping up again. Later I went from working one-on-one with people to regressing large groups. Most of the work I do is past lives, and the reason I do it is because it works.
Not all problems have their source in a past life, but if someone has explored their current life and a fear, phobia or challenge keeps re-emerging then that is the point that you consider going back.
