What is Veganuary? ! Run by - a charity inspiring people to try vegan for January - now has a global following. You might want to try being Vegan for the whole month or substituting one or two animal-derived items. Did you know that following a Vegan diet isn’t just about food though? Animal ingredients are found in so many other products, especially in the beauty industry. Nearly all the soaps we stock at the shop are Vegan and all of them are cruelty and chemical free, such as Alter/Native by which we stock in both boxed and glycerine options. So for Week 1 of Veganuary we are offering 10% off their entire collection! (not including shampoo/conditioner/clay/balm/travel bars). Starts tomorrow and runs right through to Saturday! 🧼

🧴 JUSTONEBOTTLE : SESI 🧴
Our annual campaign has kicked off amazingly well these last two days, and I thought it important to share the brands where we source all of our liquid refills from, so I’ll start with our biggest supplier 💚 SESI are a social enterprise based in Oxfordshire which supplies sustainable detergents to shops, farmers markets, cooperatives, charity organisations and more. Formed in 2006, SESI started in the shed of the local primary school where our two daughters attended, giving rise to the name School Ethical Supplies Initiative, shortened to SESI, which stuck!
SESI Refill helps reduce people’s plastic footprint, with the key role as a provider of ethical detergents which help everyone to become part of a circular economy (where containers are refilled over and over again in a closed loop system). What’s more? As social enterprise, they re-inject funds into broadening their product lists and branching out to create new partnerships. Pictured are a snapshot of just some of the SESI refills we stock; which ones do you already use? Are there any you’ll like to try? Remember we have 15% ALL liquid refills this month!

…which I know is a strange thing to say at the end of the day, but with it being a new year I thought it’d be a good idea to re-introduce myself and the shop, especially given we’ve had so many new customers and followers recently.
My name is Steph and I’m the owner of Reed’s Refillery. We’re based right in Chorley town centre and will celebrate our three year anniversary in April; it has FLOWN by! The video shows a snap shot of what the shop is all about: refilling your household goods, plastic-free swaps and gorgeous products by other small businesses. We’ve got so many exciting plans for this year so we hope to welcome you soon if you haven’t visited before and we hope to excite our regulars when we’re able to share what’s happening behind the scenes! So from today’s posts I hope I’ve helped to explain why refilling is so much more sustainable than recycling, and why we take part in the campaign. How can we support you to try a switch (or two?) By giving 15% off ALL liquid refills throughout January! Yes! The deduction will come off automatically at the till. There is a long list of all our liquid refill stock in the picture, but I’ll give reminders and show examples across the month. We refilled 900kg of washing up liquid and 700kg of fabric conditioner in 2024. How much will be refilled in 2025?! Back OPEN as normal tomorrow! 9:30-5 😊

Yep, you read that right, only 9% of “new” plastic actually gets recycled. And even of the 15% of plastic sent to recycling, 40% of that is scrapped due to various factors. The stats continue in the image. This is why we encourage to Refill & Reuse rather than Recycle, because by refilling that shampoo/fabric conditioner/washing up liquid/hand wash bottle, you are keeping it in the circular system. It’s 2025! And it’s January, which means there’s two big themes to the month to kick off the year. We have the campaign which encourages people to refill a bottle for the first time, or even for our regulars to try refilling a product they haven’t done so before. I’ll be explaining that more tomorrow and it’ll launch on Friday! And we have - a charity inspiring people to try vegan for January, whether it be for the whole month or by substituting one or two meat/dairy items. We have so many great Vegan products in the shop which I’ll be sharing across the month along with some special offers! We have lots more exciting things planned in 2025 and you’ll see a big change straight away when we re-open on Friday! Any guesses?! Have a lovely NYD everyone 💚

I don’t know where to start. Thank you for an amazing year. It had its ups and downs at the beginning with my endometriosis diagnosis and family illnesses but the shop continues to go from strength to strength with the help and support from a lot of people along the way. I’m going to start with thanking all my staff; particularly Lynsey who knows what the shop needs before I do, keeps the cogs turning when I’m not there and for being a brilliant friend. Thank you Gayle for being a huge fellow-small-business supporter and a wonderful friend/therapist/L&Y twin and of course the rest of our little small business group. Thank you the huge range of small, eco-friendly businesses who have allowed me to trade their wonderful products in the shop. Thank you to Chorley Council who have supported the shop so much (more to come about that in the New Year!) and all the other Zero Waste Shops like mine across the country who are an endless source of inspiration. Thank you to my family for being there behind the scenes - particularly Martin who has always believed in me and is even now becoming a familiar face in the shop day-to-day. And last but of course not least at all - YOU! You are the best customers I could ever wish for and make the hardest days worth it. You are kind. You are funny. You are human. You are the best supporters and the shop would not exist with you all. 2025 is already looking so exciting and I can’t wait to share it with you all. Love Steph ###

Morning guys. Sorry to disappoint those of you who planned to pop in today but I’ve decided to close. I was really, really tired yesterday and then had an endo flare up later on in the afternoon so I’d rather rest and then bounce back on Friday ready for 2025 than risk becoming more ill. I did enjoy having my mini-me assisting in the shop yesterday and she was delighted to serve one of her teachers! Thank you for understanding. Forget your most listened-to songs of 2024; let’s see what our best-sellers of the year have been! We’ve taken the top five from three categories: liquid refills, food refills and non-refill products. 700kg of Fabric Conditioner is insane!! When you combine both Washing Up Liquid brands that makes 900kg in total! No surprises with the food that Bombay Mix is right up there! Delighted that GF Oats are too! And to have FOUR out of the five top non-refill products be local makers is amazing!! Thank you to and for such a great year! 🎄 MORNING 🎄 I was a busy bee in the shop yesterday afternoon putting the table back and generally reorganising the stock. I thought it would be useful to make a little video showing all the wonderful festive stock we have left while I was there! Open 10-2 today with our #12DaysOfChristmas Day 11 offer being announced at 9am!

💚 DRY SHAMPOO 💚 A couple of months ago I began stocking Dry Shampoo by Scrubber. Why? Unlike most commercial dry shampoos that use aerosols, plastic packed packaging and a list of chemicals, Scrubber dry shampoo uses effective natural ingredients that are kind to your scalp and kind to nature. The ethically sourced powers and clays that make up our dry shampoo banish greasy looking roots and are mildly antibacterial, making your hair feel and look fresh. The scent is mild but fragrant, making your hair smell fresh and floral, without it being a constant intrusion for your nose! Packaged in cardboard, recyclable shakers, our dry shampoo is plastic (and guilt) free! I gave it a go - see the video to find out what I thought!

💚 MORNING 💚 If a make-up-less Steph is not what you need first thing in the morning then look away now 😂 I love the new Peptide Serum by UpCircle so much that I’ve made a video showing how to use it, how it feels, and how it benefits my skin. And then the Night Cream did a cameo too! What I forgot to mention was the other benefit of this serum; it can be refilled - the other brand cannot. Oh and a blooper that was missed when the video finished - I KNOCKED OVER THE EYE CREAM ON TO THE FLOOR 🤦🏻‍♀️ A good deed never goes unpunished!

🎄🍰 XMAS CAKES 🍰🎄 I’ve had a few messages asking about what the Christmas Cake packs look like/how they’re made up so I thought I’d put together a little video to show you! Along with the recipe, you are given bags of each ingredient - weighed to the gram! They’re all then ready to mix together at home with the butter etc! I’ve honestly lost count of how many we’ve made so far and how many we have to go but I’m really loving it this year! Drop me a DM if you would like more details or to order one. So after talking to the team we’ve decided to open up bookings between Thurs 26-Sat 28th Sept and Tues 22-Sat 26 October. We do still have lots of dates available in November and the first week in December. Just drop me a DM and we’ll get a slot sorted.
