Tivoli Wines

Tivoli Wines An award-winning independent wine merchant situated in the heart of Cheltenham. It became Tivoli Wines in 2010 before David and Helen Dodd took over in 2016.

Tivoli Wines is an online and retail wine store based in the picturesque regency town of Cheltenham on the edge of the Cotswold Hills. There's been a wine shop at 56 Andover Road since the 1980s, and our Tina has been here more than half of that time. We believe in Quality, Value and Education. We refuse to sell wine of substandard quality; supermarkets exist to fulfil that purpose, and all of our

wines are tasted by the team before they hit the shelves. Value doesn't mean just paying as little as possible, it means getting the best quality wine possible for the money you want to spend. Most importantly, we want to educate our customers so that they can buy better. In November 2017, we opened The Wine Library above our shop in Cheltenham, offering 32 wines from Enomatic tasting machines and a further number of iconic fine wines including Chateau d'Yquem and Penfolds Grange from Coravin, so that customers can learn more about wine and their own tastes.

Northern Italy has a rich tapestry of wines, renowned for their distinct character and deep-rooted traditions. Each region boasts its own grape varietals, influenced by the specific climate, soil composition, and winemaking traditions.

It’s here where you’ll find the likes of Barolo and Barbaresco from Piedmont, Amarone from Veneto, the ‘super whites’ from Friuli, alpine wines from Alto-Adige, Prosecco and Franciacorta sparklers, and so much more.

Join us at this festival event to discover what this part of Italy has to offer.

☀️ Sun’s out. Time for some fun stuff. Here’s a few newbies in the shop…

• Italian Plastic Super Glou - A juicy blend of Malbec, Arneis and Carignan from Australia. Packs all the flavours of cherries, berries, plums and cola. Chill it. Glug it. Job done. £20.99

• Sugrue South Downs Salt Éire - Just released as part of the Indigo Salt of the Earth series, it’s a multi-vintage solera Chardonnay from Sussex. Lemony and full flavoured, balanced by a long, creamy finish. £30.99

• Granbazán Etiqueta Ambar Albariño - A little bit of skin contact and several months on its lees makes this a concentrated and complex Albariño. Stone fruit, citrus, creamy texture, classic salinity. Bangin’. £24.99

• Don’t Feed the Ponies Figgie Daniel - New vintage with a new label from Sharpham/Sandridge Barton in Devon. Madeleine Angevine Col Fondo. Green Apple, lemon rind, elderflower and ye**ty characters. £23.99

If you haven’t given all your money to the bookies this week, we’ve got a special offer on one of our Rieslings.

FRITZ WILLI RIESLING - WAS £17.49 - NOW £13.99

A modern off-dry Riesling from Friedrich Wilhelm Gymnasium, who have 25 hectares of vines on the steep slatey slopes of Germany’s Middle Mosel and Saar. It has fragrant aromas of ripe apricot and citrus with more ripe stone fruit and red apple on the palate. Fritz Willi has a clean, saline minerality and a zesty lemon sherbet character, balanced by a generous lick of residual sugar.

Because of its slight sweetness, this is the perfect wine to pair with anything spicy or salty, preferably both. They suggest Asian cuisine, bacon dishes, grilled fish or scallops, so go wild. Its lower ABV will be a bit kinder to your head too.

Offer available in-store and online, while stocks last.

A couple of newish Riojas from Alonso & Pedrajo. First generation, organic farming, minimum intervention winemaking from the foot of the Montes Obarenes. Both £37.99.

• Suañé Rioja Blanco Reserva is a blend of 75% Viura, 25% Sauvignon. It’s had 10 days skin contact for some incredible texture, and aged on its lees for a year in French oak. Structured and round with notes of citrus, apple pie, melon, herbal hints and spice.

• Suañé Rioja Tinto Reserva is a deep and intense Tempranillo. Spontaneous fermentation in concrete followed by 24 months in barrel sees notes of cherries, florals, blackberries, black pepper and liquorice. Silky, ripe and fresh.

Welcome to Grape School. 🧑‍🎓🍇

Whether you’re a complete novice, a curious enthusiast or a seasoned connoisseur, Grape School is suitable for all.

We’ve picked out a selection of the world’s best-loved grape varieties and are hosting a masterclass on each upstairs in The Wine Library. Discover the origins, flavour profiles, styles and key regions, learning how the grape’s personality can vary thanks to where it’s grown, how it’s grown and how it’s vinified.

No matter where you’re at in your wine journey, Grape School will either teach you something new, let you taste something new, or give you a new perspective on these grape varieties.

Grape School Vol.1 will see us dive into Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. All on Sunday afternoons throughout March and April, lasting no more than 1.5 hours.

Grape School is priced at £80, making each tasting only £20. This offer is limited to just 15 places and we’ll be tasting 5 wines per session.

Week 1: Chardonnay – Sunday 9th March – 2pm
Week 2: Pinot Noir – Sunday 23rd March – 2pm
Week 3: Cabernet Sauvignon – Sunday 6th April – 2pm
Week 4: Riesling – Sunday 27th April – 2pm

Now that January’s over, can we talk about tasting events? Festival Fridays are back and for February, we’re tasting wines of the Rhône.

The Rhône Valley follows the Rhône River as it winds its way down towards the Mediterranean Sea. It spans approximately 150 miles and is divided stylistically and geographically into northern and southern parts.

Grenache rules over the south with a mix of Mediterranean grapes, while in the north, the two shining stars are Syrah and Viognier. So, from north to south, famous names and those lesser known, we’ll be tasting a number of wines that we feel best represent the region.

January is our quietest month, so we don’t tend to add many new wines to our range. These two are an exception…

Both from ; we have the delicate Harmonie Pinot Noir, with pretty floral notes, cherries and strawberries; the Granite Riesling is racy and dry, with bergamot citrus, white flowers and steely minerality. £22.99 and £21.99 respectively.

Last week we were ranked number 42 in 50 Best Indies 2025! As they say, a position in the UK’s 50 Best sits a business in the top 6% or so of quality-focused independent drinks retailers in the UK. 🥳

We’ve been described as follows:
“Self-professed lovers of wine education, though very much not in a stuffy way, this Cotswold-based merchant runs a phenomenal roster of multi-format events, whether they be public, private, or its mini-wine festivals. From deep dives into emerging regions to meet-the-winemaker sessions in The Wine Library above the shop, the buzz is always very much fun and informal.“
