Cellar Supplies proudly sponsoring local sport. Well done to all that were involved in this great event.

The inaugural Open Tournament for bowlers under 18 took place at Suffolk Square on Sunday. There were 32 entries including 14 from Gloucestershire with others coming from as far afield as Devon, Lincolnshire and South Wales. The objective of the event was to provide more competitive bowls for youngsters who are the future of our wonderful game.

The playing format was based on 8 groups of 4 players with each group playing a round robin format with the top 2 in each group going through to a KO singles stage and the remaining two playing together in a KO pairs competition. Each game comprised 2 sets of 6 ends with a one end tie break if required.

The tournament winner by 2 sets to 0 was 17yo George Clarke from Southey BC in Wimbledon who collected a trophy and £250 from the event sponsor Cellar Supplies. The other singles finalist was 13yo Owen Kent from Langwith Junction BC Nottinghamshire who won £125. Local talent featured as losing semi-finalists with Cheltenham’s 15 year old Finley Williamson and 14yo Joshua Hodges collecting £50 each. The Pairs Plate final was won by Alfie Holland from Avon BC and Owen Aspinall from Blackstones BC in Lincolnshire who each received a trophy and £30 after defeating another local bowler Erin Burke from Coleford and her partner Connor Fielder from Sir Francis Drake BC in Devon.
