THANK YOU / GRAZIE 🙏 to all the lovely people that came out to the first night of our Italian wine and food event. I am very sad to say that there was NOT ONE single scrap of lasagna left for me devour after the boys tucked in at the end of the evening! Rude 😂

Cheers! Spaces are starting to full up for next weeks drop by tasting on the 30th of November. This is a very fun informal affair, where you get a chance to taste a few different wines, get some ideas for Christmas, and enjoy a cheese board if you like. If you are looking for a more substantial meal, you may also order off the Moura Restaurant menu at 15% off the usual price. Tickets cover the cost of the wine, and are going at £10.00 per person if you book in advance, or £12.00 if you drop by. Book in advance to avoid disappointment. There is the first peep at the new tasting date. We are finally going back to our roots and showcasing some truly epic wines from South Africa. This will be a guided wine adventure with our host . The wine will be accompanied by a selection of delicious South African eats. We have already had a lot of interest in this one, so grab your tickets now to avoid disappointment. Only £40 per person! Just a quick snap of the wines used on tonight’s tasting. All that is missing is the welcome drink, a delightful cava, and the finishing drink- a vermut! The wines were paired with an assortment of tapas including a miniature version of Moura’s signature cod dish. We loved hosting the event and hope everyone had as good a time as we did 😀 Our next tasting event shall be for Beaujolais day - so please keep you eyes peeled for updates on that

TIRED OF SUPERMARKET PLONK? Don’t blame you! I have seen many a South African Chenin Blanc in supermarkets, some better than others - but really they are there because supermarkets choose to sell wine that is made as cheaply and efficiently as possible, so that they can shift large quantities of it quickly. If you jump one or two more price brackets up, you will be astonished with the clear jump up in quality. Take this beauty as an example. The DMZ Chenin Blanc is made in Demorgonzon winery from the idyllic Stellenbosch region in the Coastal Region in South Africa. Demorgonzon directly translates to “the morning sun”, as the winery is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof Valley to see the sun due to its altitude and aspect. An enormous amount of care goes into growing the vines and in the winemaking process. The winemaker plays baroque music to his vines as he believes that the vibrations make for better vine growth. Ambient yeasts are used in the production of the wine - meaning a slower fermentation with a lot more added complexity to the wine, than if commercially made yeasts were used. The result is a rich and complex Chenin Blanc which is just a delight on the senses. Expect flavours of green apple, white peach, dried apricot, warm citrus fruit, honey and minerality. If you are considering a top class food and wine pairing, this wine pairs well with spicy cuisine like curry 😋 If you would like to purchase this wine as well as other more quality conscious wines, why not pay the Wicked Vintner store a visit and chat to our wine nerd about your wine related needs 😃

WHAT A NIGHT. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 How is that for a line up!? Glad that customers are starting to take advantage of our Wicked Vintner Cellar option at Moura (). Drinking good wine in a restaurant should not cost you a fortune. Buy any wine from our retail store and pay a small corkage fee to drink the wine with your meal at Moura restaurant. You will have the added advantage of being talked through the wine by our in house wine nerd, who is always happy to talk all things wine🥰

The wine industry in the USA joking refers to Pinot Grigio based wines as “mom wines”. Something unoffending, that is consumed in massive quantities and usually regarded as being supermarket fodder. But that image of Pinot Grigio quickly goes away when you taste a beautiful expression of the Pinot Grigio grape… something that just has a zippy freshness and pops with flavours of apple, fresh peach, and citrus. If you are looking for something like this, look no further than the Pietrame Pinot Grigio from Terre Di Chieti in Italy. It is no surprise that it has been awarded 92 points by Luca Maroni, and once you taste it, you will wonder why you would ever let another supermarket Pinot Grigio pass your lips. We sell this as a wine to take away, but it can also be enjoyed by the glass or bottle at . If you are looking for a great summer time tipple, this might just be it 🤩

When we think of Pinot Noir, we may think of the greats emanating from Burgundy or California - not so much the country of Romania. The other presumption is that it needs to cost a fortune to be good. We were wrong 😑 on both counts with the Lautarul Pinot Noir. This modestly priced Pinot Noir hailing from Romania had sufficient depth of flavour and complexity to fool even our in house Pinot Noir pro! Expect a slightly fuller bodied Pinot Noir with sour cherry notes, bramble, floral notes, sweet spice and coffee. It was bloody delicious 🤤 Pick this wine up from our pop-up store for only £10 or have a gander at some of our other goodies.

Just reflecting on our South African food and wine experience held this last weekend at Moura Restaurant . We featured some awesome wineries like DMZ, Simongsig, Paul Cluver and Rustenberg Estate.
