Brand new wine to Kwoff!!!! - Baglio Gibellina U. Passimiento Bianco DOC

The ancient and unchanged land of Sicily is truthfully reflected in the wines of Baglio Gibellina.

‘Baglio’ refers to the original internal courtyard of the farm, surrounded by a series of old rural warehouses once used for the collection and processing of grapes. Old vines planted between 300-600m above sea level are grown on a mixture of clay and volcanic soils. The grapes are hand-harvested at night to take advantage of the cooler temperatures, retain freshness and keep the bunches intact and avoid any skin maceration. Soft pressing followed by temperature-controlled fermentation. The components are kept cool to settle and final blend is made in spring following harvest. No oak ageing.

Baglio Gibellina U. Passimiento Bianco wine is intense, elegant and complex with a wonderful combination of citrus, grapefruit, apple and white flesh fruit flavours with a hint of Mediterranean flora. Pair with grilled vegetable dishes, antipasti, fish, or vongole pasta … but equally delicious with roast chicken.

Tabalí Barranco Viognier - Wow! What a wine!!!! It was no surprise that this was the most popular wine from our tasting on the last Friday.

Tabalí Barranco Viognier is subtly scented with floral notes, dry white fruits and spices, and has a slightly mineral note in the background. It is very elegant in the mouth, creamy but very fresh at the same time. An exquisite acidity is induced by the cold nightly mountain breezes.

*NEW SAUVIGNON BLANC*

Heaphy Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from vineyards in Tasman, Upper Moutere and Waimea Plains. Fruit was cold pressed to tank for fermentation, settled and racked, allowed to rest on fine lees for 8 months prior to slight filtration and bottling.

This fabulous wine has a breezy, maritime nose of seagrass and salinity with pink citrus notes greets a palate of concentrated margarita zest, green and red apple notes with a rich mouthfeel, fine leesy texture and an intense finish of breadth, freshness and further telltale salinity. Feels like a breezy walk on a sunny beach.

Alo Jais Noir Carignan, Cotes Catalanes.

This bold carignan from Languedoc leaves a big impression!!

Winemaker Guillaume Letang went on a voyage to vineyards unknown to source these grapes. While he is used to driving all over Languedoc Roussillon for his work he had never ventured this far south. One day curiosity got the better of him and he went to explore “the wild landscape” between Corbieres and the Mediterranean. Stainless steel was used to maintain the freshness and purity of fruit from the old, bush-vine Carignan.

The small yields from this area and its unique soils and landscape give distinctive wines with personality. This wine is intense and complex with dark, rich fruit, delicate tannins and smooth mouthfeel. As Guillaume says, it’s a “must taste” wine! Paired great with duck confit or shoulder of lamb. As a vegetarian option lentil and bean stew would compliment the wine just as well.

This outstanding South African white wine is created from Grenache Blanc produced by the Foundry in Stellenbosch blended with old vine Chenin Blanc grapes grown on two sites in the Agter Paarl and Viognier from Kasteelsig Vineyard, both of which were vinified by our wine maker Jeremy Borg, who then put together this blend.

An elegant, rich wine with a broad mouthfeel and a tight fresh finish. A focused melange of stone fruit, citrus, mineral and spice with a precise and refreshing finish.

Maison Antech Cremant De Limoux Cuvee Francoise and Maison Antech Cremant De Limoux Rose Cuvee Francoise are both made by Maison Antech who for over five centuries have tamed the magical terroir of Limoux to make fine sparkling wines. The secret of their character lies in the combination of Limoux’s three terroirs, which form the backbone of the cuvées: freshness from the Pyrenees, vinousness from the ocean and roundness from the Mediterranean. This Cuvee, named after Francoise, daughter of the family and a member of the sixth generation celebrates her strong character and the part she plays in guarding her heritage and shaping their future.

Maison Antech Cremant De Limoux Rose Cuvee Francoise sparkling wine is a delicately pink Crémant de Limoux with bright fruit and integrated bubbles. The nose opens up to a bouquet of red summer berries and cherry blossom which follows through on the palate, finishing with juicy strawberry fruit and clean acidity. No oak ageing. A versatile fizz, beautiful as an aperitif with canapés, smoked salmon and lighter dishes.

Maison Antech Cremant De Limoux Cuvee Francoise sparkling wine has vibrant greengage and white flower aromas combine with a hint of lemon curd giving the wine a fresh, vibrant appeal. These are reflected on the palate with an additional mineral character, finely structured acidity and persistent bubbles elevating the components. No oak aging. Perfect as an aperitif or to accompany pan-fried white fish and with sufficient acidity to cut through creamy sauces.

Charles & Charles Post No. 35 Blend Cabernet Sauvignon/ Syrah.

This Kwoff classic from Columbia Valley in Washington State is bold, rich and textured but not over the top it remains wonderfully restrained and focused. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and earthy, savoury notes of to***co and herbs, vanilla and cocoa. A full mouthfeel with a long and supple finish. It’s an intense dark blue / purple in colour with tremendous purity, depth, and focus. Tannins are elegant and refined. The blend this year is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Syrah.

Contesa Abruzzo Pecorino -

Pecorino has become very fashionable, and is now one of Italy’s fastest-growing white varieties.

Contesa Pecorino is made from Pecorino grapes cultivated in the 1.7 hectare Vigneto al Lago vineyard, in the Collecorvino region. It has a ripe honeyed nose with aromas of white peach and citrus fruits, and gently nutty, savoury notes. The palate is full and textured with pronounced minerality and delicate ripe fruit flavours leading to a long, spicy finish. Delicious!!!!!

If you haven’t tried an orange wine then maybe you should!!!

Bodegas Altolandon Enblanco is a very pale orange pink colour, the nose is elegant with sweet aromas of stone fruits, mineral and anise, supported by apricot, mirabelle plum and citrus notes. Full and well rounded on the palate, with plenty of weight, yet still elegant, lively and light in body. Easy to drink.

The perfect appetiser, but excellent with Tapas, baked fish and sushi.

Did you know that to produce an orange wine the white grapes are macerated for an extended period of time with their skins?

This beautiful wine is also vegan friendly and organic.

We present to you - Le Argille Cabernet Di Cabernet! The famous concrete bottle wine!

Le Argille wine is aged in cement for two years which keeps the wine immaculate and free of aromatic interference (ie, from a barrel) ensuring its uniqueness and its warm, elegant and mature flavour remains intact. This outstanding wine is the result of a wise coupage of Cabernet grapes obtained through the Double Reasoned Maturation (DMR) technique, which is applied directly in the vineyard. This technique consists of clamping select branches before the grapes reach a complete maturation. This means the grapes start to age while still on the vine resulting in a greater concentration of sugar giving more structure and strength to the wine. The wine is aged into cement vats for 24 months after that the winery team performs a sensory test to decide when the best time to bottle is. After which the wine is then aged further for at least 6 months.

Le Argille wine is an intense ruby red colour with garnet highlights, aromas of blueberry, blackberry and wild strawberries lead onto hints of plum, black cherries and vanilla with light nuances of to***co, dark chocolate and green pepper. Aged for two years in concrete barrels. This is a multi award-winning wine, excellent with strong meats like game and venison, meat stews and herby cheeses. It is also very good with fruit jam and desserts, particularly jam tarts and pastries.

New French Red! - Château Maucoil Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Rouge 🍷🍷🍷

Château Maucoil Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages Rouge has elegance and freshness are the catchwords at Maucoil, and this is no exception.

Its proximity to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards and the similarity of its soil (a mixture of sand and pebbles), as well as the old vines from which it hails, gives this Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages great concentration and loads of character. Harvesting is carried out by hand and the grapes are transported in 15kg perforated crates. The grapes are sorted berry by berry before going into vat. A blend of Grenache (50%) Syrah (25%) Mourvèdre (25%), each grape variety and parcel is vinified separately. After a fermentation period of around 25 days with pumping over, rack-and-return, and punching down operations, the wines are drawn off and then aged in vats until bottling.

Not at all heavy, this organic Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages is finely structured and harmonious with bright, red berry fruit and good length. Classy.

Beautifully pairs with anything grilled and yummy.

We have an unbelievable new organic Spanish white for you to try. Juan Gil’s Dry Muscat gives aromas of fresh peach and kiwi with hints of jasmine and white pepper. The palate has ripe and juicy stone fruit and honeydew melon characters, refreshing acidity and a long spicy finish.
