DAY THREE: COMMUNITY ART

For our third post counting down to Christmas, we're remembering some of the community art projects IBT has produced over the years. Collaborating with people across Bristol, IBT has helped to facilitate a huge array of community-led artworks, performances and spaces that are representative of what Bristolians want from their arts organisations.

This December, we’re digging through our archives to celebrate our 20+ years of public art, community building, artist and producer development and much, much more!

📖 READ: IBT’s Producer Beau Palmer shares their experience of producing 'Capturing the Forest' with artist Kristina Veasey.

"Working on Capturing the Forest has been a dream project as an arts producer! Over the past few months, I’ve collaborated with Kristina Veasey and Alejandro Ahmed to bring their vision of an accessible, immersive forest to life at the Attenborough Centre in Brighton.

Embedding access at the heart of a project from the very beginning is something that Kristina, Alejandro, the IBT team and I are deeply passionate about. It’s an ongoing learning process, but Capturing the Forest provided an incredible opportunity to apply this approach in practice."

📖 READ: IBT’s CEO and Artistic Director Helen Cole shares her experience of working on 'Capturing the Forest' with artist Kristina Veasey.

"It’s been a joy to work with the incredible Kristina Veasey. Kristina's endlessly enquiring creative mind, ability to get around challenges that would completely freeze most other people, and continual openness to learning and trying new things has seen her move away from her usual art form and comfort zones to collaborate with Alejandro Ahmed who she's never been able to meet in the flesh and whose practice, as one of Brazil's leading choreographers, is previously unknown alien to her.

And to Ale who, despite being so busy with his own incredible work, has taken the time and so generously shared, inspired, created and met Kristina’s practice of using natural materials, clay, paint, print and design with his own of using dance, tech, sound and AI.

This has been a huge thing to do remotely together.

Next step: Capturing the Forest 2, led by Alejandro Ahmed, with interventions by Kristina Veasey, presented by dear friend for in Rio de Janeiro in March 2025."
