Oh it’s Friday! Thought these lovely ammonites from Sherborne, Dorset, would put you in the fossil collecting frame of mind. They are Stephanoceras, from the inferior Oolite, & approx 158 million years old. Have a good, but safe weekend collecting.

One of our local ammonites.
I have used a fizzy pop can for size. As unlike bananas, which size can vary, the can is normally 330ml in size.

If you’re around the Charmouth area the heritage centre Charmouth sea front is well worth a visit and it’s free a donation would be greatly appreciated

Huge lump slowly being exposed as the sea washes the soft mud away exposing the ammonites

This ammonite cut really nice showing the calcite chambers

A big old nautilus from Sherborne 12 kgs and 28 cm

Spotted this ammonite on the beach at Charmouth yesterday shame was a good example

Ammonites have had wash and ready to go back on the shelves ready for the school holidays
