📣 Introducing our new food donation point in support of FoodSavers Network 🍝

From Friday 12th April, we will be collecting non-perishable items for FoodSavers, an organisation that focuses on maintaining dignity for those experiencing poverty by helping them access cheaper food provision, establish savings and remain financially independent.

All food items collected will be donated to the network's food bank, located in Little London.

Collections can be made to our Management Suite (located on the upper level, next to Leeds Baby Bank).

Many thanks in advance for your support 🧡

Pop in to the pantry next week for a brucey bonus from our lovely partners FoodSavers Network. They've gifted us some Kitty's Kits for Yum members, so you can make no knead, no mess bread at home. It's first come first served... Fresh bread...yum!

It is positive to see Yorkshire Building Society working alongside Citizens Advice to provide help and support for people in the centre of Bradford.

There is a huge demand for Citizens Advice in the area, so offering extra appointments in a high street location is much needed.

Amazing thank you so much!

Another two home starter packs bought and delivered to the women’s refuge in Keighley. Very pleased to be able to support this brilliant charity. Two more ladies will be moving into their own places shortly. 😊

Last Saturday I was so pleased to be able to speak at the The Food Conversation for the FFCC, alongside and Sonja Woodcock, to find urgent solutions to Britain’s growing food crisis. The FCC brought together a representative group of citizens to ask what people want from food and how they want to see things change.

This week we opened a new pantry in partnership with a local community group and had more conversations about the fragmented food situation. At FoodSavers, we believe in empowering those in poverty not trapping them in it.

As the funding is distributed for probably the final time on the Household support fund solutions that prioritise agency and choice and dignity must be paramount. We must listen closely to those we work with so we are avoiding unintended harms. Providing pathways to self-sufficiency and dignity while meeting urgent needs compassionately.

What was reflected in the all the conversations this past week was this MUST be through employment opportunities, access to capital and investment in income-generating activities - not just temporary handouts of free food.

Food is a basic right!

Yesterday I was so pleased to be able to speak at the The Food Conversation for the FFCC, alongside and Sonja Woodcock, to find urgent solutions to Britain’s growing food crisis. The FCC brought together a representative group of citizens to ask what people want from food and how they want to see things change.
A new poll commissioned by the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission unearths the real food crisis in Britain.
80%) of people surveyed believe healthy food is something that everyone should be able to have, yet only 8% think it is affordable to most people.
Nearly 50% of people stated that financial pressures have made them cut back on the quality of food they eat.

Sue Pritchard, CEO of the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission said,
“Of all the elements of our everyday economy, one of the things we simply cannot manage without is healthy food. How did this basic necessity become a luxury that few can afford? Food is at the centre of some of the biggest challenges this country faces and for many people, eating enough healthy food is becoming impossible. A smart and strategic government will prioritise action across the whole food chain, from farm to fork.

And what we’re hearing from citizens is that the focus on food would be a real vote winner, the inequalities of a system that means poor children will live shorter lives than rich ones is not acceptable. They are sympathetic to the challenges facing family farmers who are dealing with the impacts of climate change on their businesses and they are worried about an NHS buckling under the pressure of diet-related ill health.
