Don't forget to get your tickets for the talk by Dr James Miles of Archaeovision about the Chapel's graveyard and how the latest digital imaging techniques have helped us to decipher the rather eroded inscriptions on the gravestones. The results are amazing and this has enabled us to research some of the people buried there.

Tuesday, 19th November at East Boldre Village Hall
Tickets available online or on the door.

Most of the gravestones were unreadable when we bought the East Boldre chapel site. Once volunteers had cleared the site and carefully cleaned the headstones we could make out parts of the inscriptions on about half of them. Following the RTI and 3D imaging work carried out by James we can now read 99% of the inscriptions.

Find out more about the techniques used and the amazing results at the talk by James at East Boldre Village Hall. Tickets are £3 each and are available from Ticket Source. https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/chapel-story-gravestone-recording/imaging-heritage-revealing-history/e-pqpzxy

Gravestones are an important record of a place’s social history. National Lottery Heritage Funding has enabled us to digitally record the gravestones on the Chapel Stores site.

Dr James Miles, a computational archaeologist was engaged to carry out the specialist imaging required. He is a leading international specialist in his field, applying digital solutions to archaeological studies.

The talk shares our research of the graveyard. James will explain the techniques chosen to record the chapel’s gravestones, the process of recording and producing the final images along with examples of the remarkable results obtained.

Tickets for the talk are £3 and can be obtained here https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/chapel-story-gravestone-recording

Last week His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester, visited Chapel Stores to recognise and celebrate the huge community effort it has taken over the last six years to establish the community shop and Post Office in East Boldre.
Representatives from key groups who contributed to the success of the project to create Chapel Stores were presented to His Royal Highness including the management committee, the village hall team who initiated the shop project, our Lane Reps, local funders, the share offer team, those who participated in the Big Help Outs and who now volunteer in the shop as well as our local contractors and suppliers.
His Royal Highness congratulated everyone involved. He commented on the importance of such local projects in building community cohesion and retaining local services. As a former practising architect, he clearly grasped the challenges faced in restoring and repurposing the 200-year-old chapel.
Thanks to all who made this such a relaxed and happy event.
