Highland Ridge Larder

Highland Ridge Larder A We are a small business inspired by a passion for country sports and our love of good food. Our venison is fully traceable.

Ron hangs, butchers and prepares the meat in our purpose built larder after he has personally stalked and shot each beast ensuring our customers are provided with the highest quality product. Our Products
Venison is an excellent source of high quality protein, it has significant levels of vitamins and iron, and is low in fat. It is a very lean meat that is low in cholesterol. Sourced entirely from

estates in Stirlingshire, Fife and the Highlands, our venison is wild and, as a result of their diet, the small amounts of fat in the venison is likely to contain high levels of conjugated linoleic acid which is thought to protect us against heart disease and cancer. Fine texture and full of flavour, this lean and very tasty meat is a great alternative to beef and yet venison doesn't shrink when cooked

Our Story

I run a small wild venison business with my husband. We are based in Whitburn, West Lothian. It is just the two of us. My husband sources the deer in Stirlingshire, Argyll peninsula and the from time to time the Outer Hebrides and brings it back to our purpose built larder where we butcher and pack.

We started the business about 18 months ago as we are both so passionate about good quality, healthy food. There are so many great plus points to eating venison.

From an environmental point of view, we keep our carbon footprint low by sourcing in Scotland and as local as possible. The deer shot are part of a cull to help protect woodland and wild life from the damage that deer can do.

The health aspect is that venison is exceptionally lean and full of vitamins and iron. It is lower in fat than a skinless chicken breast and has the same omega 3 level as a mackerel.
