Trying a new technique to get a bit of texture in the wings. What do you think?

Lorgar Aurelian or: How I learned to stop worrying and follow the Word

Got the big boy painted in a session. Not bad going really. A few things to work on and tidy up. But at this stage in the project I'm reluctant to go too far until I've had a bit more practice with the scheme, but over all I'm pretty happy for now.

Fills out an otherwise quite gangly pose quite nicely I think. Or it's just a ghost too far...
I'll green stuff it in place once the superglue has dried for a bit

I think I'm going to try it with lots of the left over chains and manacles to give them that 'just unleashed from the pens' feel

Lorgar Aurelian or: How I learned to stop worrying and follow the Word

Chapter 1.1

Bit more painting in the shed tonight.
Taking everything I learned from the first 4 squad members, I put it all into practice with the 5th. I also went a little further with this one too, using Alcad II dirt and grime, and some thinner on a cotton bud to lift some away and bring out some of the metallic highlights. Defo need to order a fine tip black Sharpie and look up chaotic runes and star constellations. Winging it is much harder than I thought.

Working on tracking down come candles for the base. I like the green stuff ones I quickly rolled out for scale, but I'm way too lazy to try and sculpt consistent flames across the hundreds that will be scattered throughout the force.

Over the next couple of days I'm going to see about making up a possessed mini, based on the CSM sculpts, maybe stealing a few daemonic bits and bobs from the possessed kit, and working in the torn cloth as well. I don't want anything OTT monstery, more marines that are a bit warpy, than warpy things that used to be marines. Also going to do a run through with the colour scheme, so we are all painting with the same brush, as it were.

Cheers,
Rich

Lorgar Aurelian Or: How I learned to stop worrying and follow the Word

Chapter 1
Being on furlough and and my first baby on the way in 6 weeks, I've been doing a lot of thinking and some self reflection. I'm almost definitely an adult now. And im getting to that point in life where I want, and can only really justify having, a few nice things. Long gone are the days where I can have piles and piles of hobby stuff in every room and covering every surface of the house. After working on a couple of new chaos sculpts for my friends over at Tabletop Assault, and being gifted a box of marines to play with by Ross, I had a bit of a flash of inspirstion that rekindled the spark of my personal hobby. My long suffering Relictors chaos space marines have been an absolute workhorse over the last 10 years, and I've added units consistently to them as the list has changed and evolved. But they aren't the prettiest of beasts. The scheme I came up with allowed me to crank out multiple units a night in time for a game. But the quality suffered just a little bit. Or a lot, depending on just how closely you looked. Over the next few months (and years, probably) I will be putting them into retirement, and upgrading to the new sculpts and a new scheme. I've spent the last couple of days coming up with a scheme for Word Bearers that I really like, and that is still very easy painting. The army will be based around the books of Anthony Reynolds, the Dark Apostle series and be heavy on the grim dark feel of the 40k universe, really trying to capture that well organised religious zealot impression I get from the books. This first post is hopefully the start of a bit of a blog for the project, tracking the progress, bouncing some ideas around and keeping me motivated to see one of my many hypothetical grand plans through to purging imperial dogs with fire on the tabletop.
Some of it will be garbage as I work stuff out. Other bits should be pretty good. I hope.
I'll do some tutorials of various aspects, and track any conversions I do. It won't be regular, it's a project without any pressure. It will just be the stuff that I do when I do it. I've got the bones of a 2000pt list that I will aim for first, but it will be mostly following the inspiration, rather than the rule book.

Hope you enjoy it
Rich

Lorgar Aurelian or: How I learned to stop worrying and follow the Word

Prologue

This is how the tale begins. A cool idea to do a squad of chosen for a painting competition to keep folk busy during quarantine. I'd just finished reading Dark Apostle for the umpteenth time and had the chainrasps sat in front of me from Age of Sigmar: Mortal Realms. I managed to pick up 3 sets for 6 quid in my local corner shop. They hadn't moved all wee do he let me take all of them cheap.
Needless to say I got carried away with chopping up ghosts and only finished 3 marines by entry day. Each one of them having been painted very differently. Plans, it seems had already began to take root like the insidious influence of the dark pantheon, on countless worlds across the Imperium...
