As promised a review of our Covid protocol;

All measures will be kept in place as figures are still extremely high throughout the Uk.

Please wear a mask before entering the shop.

Please make it known to staff that ,if you’ve forgotten your mask and you need something, and you will be given a mask free of charge.

This is to protect you and OTHERS as the virus is still prevalent throughout the Uk and particularly high rates within Eden.

Some thoughts are that the symptoms are that of a minor cold and that it doesn’t make YOU that ill but others around you may have underlying health conditions that they may become very ill and not fully recover.

Others around you may be getting ready to go into hospital for an operation that they have been waiting for for a very long time because of the pandemic, some go into hospital to receive treatments, others may be visiting elderly people in care homes that need visits , elderly people that can’t leave their homes or some people may be going on holiday.

All of the aforementioned would have to be cancelled or postponed due
to them catching the virus.

SO PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF OTHERS.

It’s not a situation any of us are happy with but we should all try our best to mitigate the chances of spreading or catching the virus.

Telephone orders can be taken for collection at the door or service can be given at the door for those of you who are unable to wear a mask.

Rudeness and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated and we have the right to refuse service.

Sorry it’s been long winded but for those of you have read it to the end thank you.

PLEASE WEAR A MASK

Opening hours;

Monday-Friday. 9 - 4

Saturday. 9 - 3

08/03/2022

Allsorts will close at 2pm on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday this week.

We will reopen on Saturday at 9.00 until 3 pm when we ba taking part in Appleby £5 fest with lots of offers.

Next week we will be open 9-4 Monday- Friday but closed on Saturday 19th.

From the 21st March we will be open Monday- Saturday 9-4

23/02/2022

As we are probably all aware, the Government has changed the rules regarding the pandemic.

However Allsorts will still be keeping our face mask policy;

Everyone is required to wear a face mask before entry into the shop,
only children are exempt.

See previous posts for more information.

The virus has not miraculously disappeared.

So to help protect our customers and staff we will continue with our policy for at least another month.

The Government has also said that people no longer have to isolate if they have COVID. So can I please ask that if you have any signs of having the virus or tested positive for COVID could you please not enter the shop.

If for any reason you have forgotten your mask, if you attract our attention at the door we will be happy to provide you with one.

26/01/2022

Despite the Government announcement that face masks/face coverings are no- longer compulsory in shops;

Allsorts will not be changing their rules.

Face masks / face coverings are still compulsory within the shop without exception.

( service at the door or a telephone order for collection at the door as previously offered will remain).

Case numbers are still high and until they substantially reduce our face mask policy will remain in place.

This is to protect you, our team and other customers within the shop.

We thank you for your cooperation and custom, we hope to review this at the end of February ( hopefully sooner)when cases have hopefully substantially declined.

28/11/2021

As has been the case throughout this pandemic the wearing of masks is compulsory in Allsorts.

This is a gentle reminder that masks must be in place BEFORE entering the shop and they must cover your mouth and nose at all times.

Unfortunately there are no exceptions except for children but we are happy to help those that are for any reason unable to wear masks by either serving you at the door or taking telephone orders to be collected at the door.

If you are a child attending secondary school if you are able, could you please consider wearing a mask to help protect others and yourselves as has been proven you are also neither exempt from catching or carrying the virus.

Could all customers please use a hand sanitiser before entering the shop ( provided at the entrance ) or your own.

Please also be conscious of social distancing within the shop.

All these measures are put in place to protect EVERYONE.

Once again please note that rudeness or any form of disrespect directed at staff will not be tolerated and the staff have the right to refuse service with my full support.

Many thanks for your continued support in our endeavour to keep the virus at bay.

Susan.

Just a reminder that Allsorts will be closing at 5pm on Wednesday 11th August and reopening 9am Tuesday 17th August.

A reminder to all our customers that our policies regarding the wearing of face masks and social distancing remains the same as it has done throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. ( see previous posts and updates )

These policies have been implemented to ensure the safest possible environment for both our customers and staff is maintained.

Whilst the vast majority of shoppers are happy and supportive of my decision to keep these restrictions in place and understand why, there are a few however that are not.
I would like to reiterate that rudeness, aggressive or confrontational behaviour will not be tolerated and our right to refuse service will be upheld.

Please share and keep an eye out for subsequent posts that will inform you of any changes to opening times or changes in policy.

Thank you for your continued support.

I’ll try to keep this update short and sweet 😊

Just a reminder that Allsorts will be closing for a few days, so if you need to stock up please take note that we will close at 5pm Wednesday 11th August and hope to reopen 9 am Tuesday 17th August.

Also another reminder that our face mask policy still remains the same as it has been throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This is to protect both staff and our customers as best we can.
Sanitiser is provided at the entrance for customers to use before entering and there are also baskets that are sanitised after each use.

I realise that some people are unable to wear a mask and we clearly state that we are happy to provide service either by telephone for a click and collect ( 017683 53725 ) or we can serve you at the door with your requirements.

Unfortunately I also have to state that a zero tolerance of rude or aggressive behaviour towards our staff is still in place.

Please respect that we are trying to keep Allsorts as safe an environment as is possible for both customers and staff and ensure that we can remain open to serve our much valued community.

Apologies if I repost this a few times it’s just to remind people ( Kerry 😉 )
as time suddenly creeps up on us.

It’s another long winded update 🙄

With the upcoming announcement of whether restrictions in regard to the coronavirus are to be lifted,Allsorts has made their own decision.

Because the cases of coronavirus are still rising daily and will be for the foreseeable and are likely to rise in our local area on and around the 12th August,we are going to keep all our present restrictions in place until further notice.

This is in the hope that it helps safeguard customers, community and our team as best we can.

We are also going to close at 5pm Wednesday 11th of August until 9am Tuesday 17th of August to give our team a well earned and deserved break in what will have been a very difficult and stressful 18 months of trading.

I hope customers will understand and be supportive of our decision which we hope will be in their best interests as well as our teams to keep everyone as safe as we can.

The protocols are as follows;

Masks are to be worn at all times within the shop. 😷

The masks must cover your nose and mouth at all times.😷

Unfortunately there are are no exemptions as the coronavirus makes no exemptions as to who it infects. 🦠

If you are unable to wear a face mask we will be happy to serve you at the door or take a telephone order ( 017683 53725 ) for you to collect.

A hand sanitiser is placed at the entrance for your use before entry and we would appreciate that you would use it.

We are still only going to allow 3 customers in the shop at any one time.
Not everyone uses one of the 3 baskets which are sanitised after each use and are positioned at the entrance ,so please understand if we ask you to wait a little if there are 3 people already in the shop.👫🧍🏻‍♀️

Whilst in the shop could you please continue to observe the social distancing ( guidelines are clearly marked on the floor ).

Thank you in anticipation of your continued support.

Please feel free to share this update and check in for further updates.

11/06/2021

In light of the Governments COVID-19 update next week, we would like to inform our customers in advance that no matter the outcome, Allsorts will be continuing with ALL of the current COVID-19 protocols we have in place.

This is due to the increasing number of confirmed cases across the Country, together with *news that the latest variant is up to 60% more transmissible and if you are to catch it, you are more likely to be admitted to hospital (*BBC News 11/06/21)

The Protocols:

- ALL customers entering the shop much wear a correctly fitted face mask covering their nose & mouth.

- A maximum of 3 customer in the shop at any one time.

- All customers must maintain social distancing of 2m - using the markings on the floor as guidance.

- All customers MUST sanitise their hands before entering. A hand sanitiser station is located at the door for customers if you don’t have your own.

Our protocol is there to protect not only our team and customers but also to safeguard the wider community and the fight against COVID-19.

For those who maybe medically exempt from wearing a mask; we would be happy to take orders in advance for collection and meet you at the shop door. Alternatively we will happily serve you at the door, however please keep in mind our teams limitations.

We would also like to remind you that we have a zero tolerance policy with regards to ANY abuse toward our team and to non-compliance of the above above protocols. Service will be refused.

Allsorts will be closed Thursday 20th May.

Many years ago on the 25th April 2007 I opened Allsorts .

At my side was my Mother Grace Spence.

We had worked together for many years on Markets and Car Boots selling many of the types of products Allsorts sells now.

Mum supported me and worked in the shop alongside me and on her own for a further 8 years.

She was known and loved by many who had the pleasure of speaking with her.

Sadly Mum passed away at her home in Appleby on the 4th of May.

As a gesture of my Mother’s support throughout my life and also with the setting up of Allsorts I will be installing a permanent Allsorts sign above the door as she had often told ( nagged 🙄☺️) me to do.

We will have this fitted and in place for the day of Mums funeral
Thursday 20th May.

Although I can hear my Mum telling me to “stay open and get the money in the till” I have taken the decision to close the shop all day as a Mark of respect.

The funeral cortège will pass Allsorts sometime between 11.10 and 11.20 for those who wish to and are able to pay their respects.

❤️Grace Spence❤️

KAREN HAS LEFT THE BUILDING 😢

After 10 years of loyal service a much valued member of our team has left.😢😢😢

However the great news is Karen is leaving to set up her own business in Appleby 😊.

Karen’s Tanning Salon 😁🌞opening soon in High Wiend.

Myself and all the team will miss her humour 🤣🤣 sarcasm 🤭 and cheeky banter ☺️ as I’m sure our will our customers.

Good luck 🍀🍀🍀🍀 and I wish you every success in your new venture and it’s great to see a new business starting up in Appleby 😊

11/04/2021

As our town starts it’s journey back to something near a pre COVID-19 normality,as of tomorrow Monday 12th April our opening hours will return to normal ie Monday - Saturday our opening hours will be until further notice
9 am -5pm.

Our policies of wearing a face mask still remain the same.
If you are unable for any reason not able to wear one we will be happily assist and serve you at the door.

Hand sanitiser is still placed at the entrance and we would like customers to use this facility as are baskets that are sanitised after each use.

In recognition that the COVID-19 infection rates are thankfully low in Eden District at present we are able to do a trial period of admitting 3 customers in the shop at any one time but would ask customers to observe the social distancing of 2 metres ( guidance of this is clearly marked on the floor)

Orders can still be placed for collection on tel 017683 53725.

Allsorts team would like to give a huge welcome back all our nonessential retailers that have been forced to close their doors during the height of this pandemic.

We’ve missed you as have all your customers.

It’s been a very quiet Appleby without the services and vibrancy you bring to our town. 💕

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

28/02/2021

With the good weather arriving and daylight lasting longer Allsorts will try opening for longer hours over the next couple of weeks 😊

So as from tomorrow Monday 1st of Mach our opening hours will be
9am -4pm Monday through to Saturday.

Our policies regarding face masks and face coverings remain the same as does our policy of only 2 customers at any one time and social distancing.

17/01/2021

Starting on Monday 18th January we will be reducing our opening hours as follows:
Monday -Saturday 9am-3pm

We remind everyone that they MUST wear a face mask, and it MUST must cover their nose and mouth at ALL times whilst in the shop. Visors unless accompanied by a mask are not acceptable and do not provide any protection against aerosol transmission.

In reply to certain individuals who have posted on social media that they are unhappy with our conditions of service ......

To clarify we are not discriminating against against people who are exempt from wearing a mask.

We will happily serve you at the door and assist you with anything you require.

If you prefer to telephone your order in for collection we are again happy to oblige. Tel 017683 53725.

We are happy to say that that we are discriminating against the possibility of the Coronavirus entering the shop by aerosol transference. Thus protecting all customers and staff. The new variants of Coronavirus are
50-70% more transmissible by aerosol transmission. “Professor Susan Micky Member of SBIB advisor to SAGE”

Also if you are unhappy or disagree with our policy please feel free to email us directly at: [email protected] where we will consider your concerns and hopefully be able to work a way around trying to engage in a civilised manner to try meet any requirements you have to shop with us.

A reminder that there is a hand sanitiser station at the entrance and we ask everyone to use, this is for the protection of both our customers and our team who have been serving you throughout this pandemic.

It remains that only two members of the public are allowed in at any one time.

We would also ask that where possible you shop alone and not in twos.

Also be mindful to keep at least two metres apart from everyone whilst in the shop.

To save the time that you are in the shop please ask for any help if you are unsure of where the stock you require is.

These practices have been put in place to enable allsorts to remain open and keep everyone as safe as we possibly can and if you don’t agree with them please do no not verbally abuse our staff as this will not be tolerated.

If you have a genuine grievance, please feel free to email these to us in a polite manner to the afore mentioned email [email protected]

We would like to thank our customers once again for their support and compliance with our endeavour to keep allsorts as safe as possible for everyone during these challenging times.

03/01/2021

Yet another long update and a reminder that Allsorts will be closed for stocktake tomorrow Monday 4th January.

The opening hours for the rest of the week through until Saturday are
9am until 5pm.

As a result of the new tier 4 restrictions there may be a need to cut the hours that we are able to open to keep the business viable. We will keep you informed of any changes as and when they are to take place.

A reminder of the restrictions we have with a few tweaks;

Face masks / coverings are compulsory and must cover your mouth and nose at all times (ie please do not pull these down to speak or for any other reason)

Face visors are not considered to be effective to contain the coronavirus unless accompanied by a face mask and you are not allowed in the shop with just a visor.

If you are unable to wear a face mask or covering we will be happy to serve you at the door or if you prefer to telephone an order in for us to get it ready for collection our telephone number is 017683 53725

There is still a limit of 2 customers in the shop at any one time .
This is usually monitored by the use of baskets that are outside ( sanitised after every use).

However not everyone remembers or chooses to use one so if you are asked to wait when entering please don’t take offence as it is at times difficult for staff to see basket use at all times.

A hand sanitiser station is at the door and we ask all our customers to use this to protect themselves and others. Remember the new strain seems to be more virulent and is more transmissible.

The rules have been put in place not only to protect the staff Karen,Sandra and Shelagh who have worked tirelessly to protect our customers as best we can but also for our customers too.

This is also an opportunity to thank all our customers for their continued support throughout 2020 and to once again thank Karen, Sandra and Shelagh for all there hard work enabling Allsorts to remain open and serve our community.

23/12/2020

All the staff at Allsorts would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas and thank you all for the support you have given us in what has been a tumultuous year.

***IMPORTANT NOTICE***

We were contacted by Eden District Council Enforcement Team on Friday last week informing us to cease trading, as Allsorts was deemed to be non essential retail.

After several telephone calls and emails questioning their judgment of what is considered essential, as well as providing a list of essential items we sell, we are still awaiting a decision on wether Allsorts can remain open and serve our community. Despite being told this would be dealt with as a matter of urgency on Monday this week.

As a result we will not be ordering any more stock to come in, and we advise that if you need anything urgently, to buy this week as we can not guarantee being open after this weekend.

Hopefully Eden District Council will see that Allsorts is an “essential retail” shop that provides essential items as well as non essential items.

We have throughout this pandemic put in measures to ensure our customers and staff are as safe as possible. See previous posts.

If we have to close our doors now, it is unlikely that we will reopen anytime soon, or if at all.

We would be grateful if you could share this and show your support as we begin the fight to stay open.

I would just like to thank our staff and all our customers for all they have done to support us as we have tried to support the local community.

Thank you to Karen,Sandra and Shelagh.

As predicted another lockdown is here .

I would just like to inform our customers that we are in the fortunate position that we are able to remain open.

Our opening hours are to remain as normal until further notice.

Monday - Saturday: 9am - 4.30pm.

Our usual Covid 19 restrictions will stay in place:

• A correctly fitted face mask, covering your mouth and nose must be used at all times, with no exceptions.

*If you are unable to wear a face mask we will be happy to serve you at the door.

• Only two customers are allowed in the shop at any one time.

Orders can be telephoned in and arrangements made for collection where payment can be made.

It’s another difficult time for all businesses but just because they are unable to open their doors doesn’t mean that they are unable to trade.

Many of the businesses have either pages or other ways you can contact them to make purchases. Christmas in Appleby-in-Westmorland 2020 will have all the details to aide you until restrictions are relaxed.

Remember local shops employ local people. Thank you for shopping local.
