Happy International Cabernet Franc day!

Another great wine 🍷 tasting at the Winery Fulham with Nacho Leon who makes the incredible Demencia wines from Bierzo, Spain 🇪🇦.

Great dinner after with some incredible wines. Thanks David! My fav was the Guillemot for sure 🤗🍷

We hosted a great cheese 🧀 and wine , 🍷 tasting for a finance firm's clients at the HAC. What a stunning venue! Established in 1537, this venue has so much history. We were in the Queen's 👑 room. I was too focussed and forgot to get more pics of the venue.

We served the following 5 wines (2 whites and 3 red):
1. Great Expectations Colombar 2015 with Gruyère cheese.
2. Gabriëlskloof Elodie (old vine) Chenin Blanc 2015 (V) with mature cheddar.
3. Great Expectations Merlot 2018 with brie.
4. Rietvallei Dark Cin (Cinsaut) 2016 with sheep's milk cheese.
5. Le Roux en Fourie Pinotage 2014 with creamy blue cheese and fresh figs.

The night was a huge success and the Pinotage was a hit as was the Cinsaut and the Chenin bl.

Meerendal Wine Estate

We went for Tasting Option 1 🍷🥂 with the following 3 Estate wines with a savoury pairing:

1. Sauvignon blanc 2023 with goats cheese. This wine has vibrant citrus notes of lemon 🍋 and grapefruit. Subtle herbal undertones add complexity, while the refreshing acidity leaves a zesty, clean finish. It is perfect for enjoying on it’s own or pairing with seafood, salads or goats cheese.

2. Chardonnay 2023 with an Indian daaltjie (bhaji) with sweet chili sauce. This was my favourite. It was dry, with lovely tropical 🍍 fruit aromas.

3. Pintoge Rose 2023 with pesto topper soft cheese. Delicate and refreshing, the wine enchants with notes of red berries🍒🍓, watermelon, and a hint of floral 💮 aroma. It’s light body and crisp acidity lead to a charming, dry finish but with a perceived sweet after taste that leaves a sense of pure enjoyment.

We later tried their Chenin blanc 2023, which has fragrant white blossoms 💮 meet juicy pear 🍐 and hints of green apple🍏. Its balanced acidity lends a touch of freshness, making it an ideal companion to a wide array of dishes.

A beautiful wine Estate with lovely scenery and perfect on a summer's day. The restaurant food was great too. Definitely recommend a visit.

Winery Fulham June Tasting featuring Château La Corne. I got to meet the couple behind this label. An English couple now living in Bordeaux, making their own wine. My favorite was the 100% Sémillon 2022. It was oily, nutty 🌰 with apple 🍏 and honeysuckle🍯 on the nose and a broad mouth feel.

As I can't drink much full bodied reds anymore, my fav with the red was the Adeneur Spätburgunder 2022. This is a German Pinot Noir, so light bodied with a lovely aroma of red fruit 🍓🍒.

Followed by a lovely staff dinner at Manuka with Steve, the winemaker at Château La Corne and his wife, Diana.

Great food and amazing wines 🍷🥂 from the Winery. My fav was the Mersault! It was incredible. Thanks as always David 😊🥂🍾🍷

Miles Mossop Wines Chapter Three Chenin blanc 2022

This is a 100% Chenin blanc from a single 41-year-old bush vine vineyard in the Stellenbosch growing on slate soils.

This wine has a brilliant deep straw colour. On the nose floral notes of orange 🍊 blossom and honeysuckle 🍯 are evident with hints of peach 🍑, citrus 🍋 and a faint toastiness. The palate is full and rich packed with yellow fruits, a grippy mid-palate leads to a textured finish of toasted almonds and a pithy citrus flavours.

Food Pairing:
This wine is a perfect accompaniment to grilled fish and chicken dishes.

I enjoyed this wine back home with one of my oldest friends over a pizza. SA 🇿🇦 does produce some amazing Chenin blanc's, so can definitely recommend this one.

Lanzerac Bergstroom 2022

The BERGSTROOM (meaning mountain⛰️ stream🏞️) is named after the various deep ravines acting as a life vain for various towns and is a classic blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

This classical Bordeaux-style white blend is packed with kiwis🥝, gooseberries🍈 and green hay on the nose, whilst on the palate, the wine gives length and complexity with a well-balanced acidity to finish of this fresh wine🍷.

Only 1, 608 bottles of the BERGSTROOM 2022 were produced.

Food pairings:
This refreshing wine will pair beautifully with dishes such as chicken Pad Thai 🍜 with lime🍋 juice and creamy chopped up peanuts or salmon Vol au Vent with buttered spinach 🥬 and lime beurre blanc.

Definitely worth the visit as there is so much to see on this beautiful wine 🍷 estate I'm glad we didn't include it in the wine 🍷 tram 🚃 trip as it would have been too rushed. Instead we had a lovely mooch around after enjoying some lunch outside ☀️.

I wasn't drinking as I was recovering from the last 2 days of drinking copious amounts of delicious wines. But my friends enjoyed a beautiful, crisp Chenin blanc.

Franschhoek Wine Tram 🚞
4th and final stop on the blue line: Holden Manz 🍷

We import and sell Holden Manz wines🍷 and we love their winery. Beautiful scenery and a lovely tasting room.

We managed to get there just in time for the last tasting of the day. We ordered some oxtail croquettes, which were amazing. We done the Connoisseur's tasting (cost £13 - so worth it!), which compraised of the following 8 wines.

“Hiro” Rosé 2021: Smooth full mouth feel with wet stone minerality, sea 🌊salt, fresh cling peaches 🍑 and Japanese raspberries.

Semillon reserve 2020: Medium intensity with lemon 🍋 zest dominating the nose. Stony minerality, mango🥭 and a whiff of coriander seed are present in a complex aroma. Only 2,858 bottles produced.

Chenin blanc 2020: 100% from bush vines over 40 years old. Classic South African 🇿🇦 Chenin blanc, with apricot, peach🍑, apple🍏, ginger, and a wonderful richness.

Chardonnay reserve 2019: Barrel fermented symphony combines citrus🍊, white blossoms 💮, summer melon🍈, passion fruit and just a touch of French oak in this Meursault style Chardonnay.

Big G 2019: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet franc, 21% Merlot blend. Ripe dark fruit, graphite, cassis, a subtle herbaceousness, nuances of blueberry 🫐 and thyme backed with hints of cedarwood and pencil shavings.

Merlot Reserve 2020: Full-bodied. Black cherries 🍒 and plum on entry with a complex mid-palate and a mocha finish.

Cabernet franc reserve 2020: Rich and elegant soft textured wine with predominant cassis and dark berries🍒🫐.

Syrah reserve 2016: Ripe and bold dark fruit 🫐, meaty and spicy 🌶️ notes, think Cornas/Hermitage style, smoky, steak 🥩 tartare, black pepper, rounded tannin, long powerful finish.

2nd stop on the blue line: Maison 😊🍷

Lovely setting, we sat outside and enjoyed the Chef's happies pairing tasting and I had a Vietnamese summer roll that was super delicious.
We done the wine tasting option with their 4 wines.

1. Chenin blanc: Harvested from the same single vineyard in the Franschhoek Valley since 2008, our unwooded Chenin Blanc follows the exact same process year after year — allowing our timing to be fine-tuned to perfection. Fermented in cool, stainless steel, this is a wine that perfectly captures the crisp, citrus 🍋🍊 character of the grape🍇. Paired with parsnip cornett - black cardamom & rosemary mousse.

2. Chardonnay 2019: Crisp. Creamy. Utterly captivating. This wooded Chardonnay is like a golden, autumn afternoon in an oak-lined road. Paired with sweet potato churros - sweet buttermilk dressing.

3. Blanc de Noir 2022: Pour a glass of this delightfully delicate wine and be intrigued by its subtle shades of coral. Our Blanc de Noir is made purposefully from a predetermined section of single vineyard Shiraz🍇, resulting in a consistently fresh, flowery 💮 nose and a burst of fruity, green 🍏 flavour. Paired with charcuterie of beef.

4. Malbec 2023: Produced in the majestic Franschhoek valley since 2008, our wines have been crafted in the same traditional way year after year using the simple combination of sun, soil and expert timing. The result is an honest wine reflecting the unique essence of every season. Paired with duck liver parfait, honey & cinnamon phyllo pastry.
My fav was the Chenin blanc (also called Steen), which is the most planted white grape in SA. Cheers 😊🍷

This is how I started my holiday and how I intend to continue, sun 🌞, fam and bubbles 🍾🥂

Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel 2022 🇿🇦
Kaapse Vonkel transmits elegance and refinement in every luxurious bubble. On the nose, white flowers 🌼, apples 🍏, and nectarines are supported by subtle aromas of shortbread biscuits. Refreshing flavours of apple 🍏 and peach 🍑 are followed by a delicate mineral finish on the palate.

Great Feb champagne 🥂🍾 tasting at the Winery Fulham. A day before Valentines ♥️🌹 day was the perfect event for tasting François Seconde champagnes 🥂 with the wine maker, Jerome. My favs are his Grand Cru and The La Loge Blanc de Noir. Very delicious, fine bubbles with a brioche note and floral aromatics.

We ended with some reds 🍷, a Valpolicella, Walter Spätburgunder 2021 and a Longrande Reserva Rioja 2018.

We ended our night with a lovely meal at Palour. Delicious food as always from chef, Jesse. And some lovely wines to go with it too. The Mugnier always winning me over! 😊🍷

Still catching up on last year's posts. Great December tasting 🍷🥂 at the Winery Fulham, SW6 with Swen Klinger from German 🇩🇪 producer, von Othegraven in the Mosel, which was followed by our team Christmas dinner at Six Portland Road.

At the tasting we started with a lovely Riesling Sekt 🥂 (sparkling), then the Max Riesling 2021, Kanzemer Riesling 2022 and my favourite Altenberg Riesling GG 2021, which is one of their top end wines in German classification.

For the red we had the Nebbiolo 🍷 from Ca'Biance 2022, which had bright cherry fruit followed by a lovely Burgundy 🇨🇵 (my fav) from Maurice Chaleux called Maranges Vielles Vignes 2022. Bold, smokey, concentrated and vigorous. Then a Ripasso Superior 2020 from La Ragose in Veneto 🇮🇹. We ended with Altenberg Riesling Kabinett 2022, which was delicious, perfect ending.

We were spoilt as always at our Christmas dinner with a magnum of Champagne from 17 different producers. An aged Riesling from von Othegraven, Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 2011 and ending with a magnum of Cavallotto.

I had the salsify to start, sea bass as my main and my fav dessert, chocolate 🍫 caramel truffels.
