The wines of Pique-Basse have been a huge hit here at Chester's and for good reason, they are exactly what we look for in a wine, fresh, vibrant, excellent fruit purity and Biodynamic viticulture.🔥

Chasse Coeur 2022

A blend of Grenach, Syrah & Cinsault, This is perfectly balanced, It is all about red berries, redcurrant & raspberries, absolutely delicious , the freshness carries the wine, that’s the hallmark with all the wines, this is our favorite of the cuvees and you need one to see why!🍷

The Domaine

The name Pique-Basse is inspired by the local name of this area, ‘piquebas’, which roughly translates as ‘low podium’. And, indeed, a number of the plots situated around the cellar are slightly raised, while being part of the Roaix plain.

The Domaine spans a dozen hectares of vines surrounding the property, mainly on the Roaix and Rasteau hill slopes. 🇫🇷

Since 2009, the vines are tended according to organic growing principles, and the vines and winemaking process are certified by Ecocert. Inspired by his love of the earth, Olivier Tropet spent nearly a decade converting his vineyard to organic agriculture before obtaining the certification. Since the 2022 vintage, the domain is fully certified by Demeter for biodynamic culture and winemaking process. With simplicity and humility, he respects his estate, his vines, and his history 🌱

Huge thanks to everyone who turned out for the Christmas Tasting yesterday!🌲🍷

A LOT of wine was consumed, and a lot of fun was had!😜 my 'festive geography teacher' look could become a thing!

We hope you found some gems to make the festive season a little more special. For those thatbirdered on the day, we will pull the wines tomorrow and give you a shout to organise delivery or collection✨️

If you didn't make it, no problem! We are here all the way up until Xmas eve to help you find the perfect wines for the lead up and the big day!🎁

Beaujolais Nouveau Day!
One of our favourite days of the year!

Beaujolais Nouveau Day is on the third Thursday in November. Under French law, the wine is released at 12:01am, just weeks after the wine's grapes have been harvested.

Beaujolais Nouveau started life as a quick-to-make wine that was drunk by vineyard workers who were celebrating the end of the hard-work of harvesting. Dating back to at least the 1800s, Beaujolais Nouveau was used to celebrate the year’s vintage and was sent to local cafes and restaurants during November and December of each year.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Beaujolais Nouveau’s popularity grew when the fashionable citizens of Paris started to drink the wine. As word of the tradition spread, Beaujolais Nouveau was sold to Britain and Europe. In the 1960s, some British clubs would send drivers to France to bring back Beaujolais Nouveau as quickly as possible, and a race to stock the wine ensued.

It is a young, lively and juicy wine that is meant to be drunk immediately!

This year on Thursday 21st November we will be pouring Beaujolais Nouveau from Christophe Pacalet all day and serving French Onion Soup until we run out!

Last nights dinner was a huge success, the wines, outstanding as ever!

Lloyds cooking, average. Music fantastic, and the atmosphere was great, another memorable eve at Chester's 🍷

Next up is the tasting and dinner next Wednesday! Still a few tickets available, you won't want to miss this one!
