Please take a moment of your time to sign the petition AGAINST a flavour ban.

As V**ers, you all know how key flavours are to successfully quitting smoking, they are absolutely key and the single biggest factor to prevent relapse.

This is Pharma trying to keep their Customer base and 1.7 TRILLION annual turnover, please make your voice heard by signing the petition.

We want the Government to not give Ministers powers to restrict v**e flavours in the To***co & V**es Bill, as we believe it will undermine efforts to help smokers quit.

John Dunne, Director General of the UK Va**ng Industry Association (UKVIA), said of today’s Va**ng Products Duty that will be introduced from 2026:

“Whilst a flat rate tax versus one graded on different ni****ne strengths is favoured so as not to deter smokers who rely on higher concentrations of ni****ne when they start transitioning over to v**es, the additional cost of £2.20 (plus VAT) per 10mls of eliquid is a kick in the teeth for former adult smokers who have switched to va**ng to quit their habits. It will also be the highest rate in Europe.

“Some 3m adults are former smokers thanks to va**ng, which is strongly evidenced as the most effective way to quit conventional ci******es, saving the NHS millions of pounds in treating patients with smoking related conditions. This announcement today deters adult smokers from considering v**es as a method to give up their habits, and hits the lowest paid who go for more price sensitive e-liquid options, which currently start at 99p and will rise to £3.83, representing a shocking rise of 267%.

“For a Government that places a great focus on the NHS, it is a nonsensical move to put a severe punitive tax level on va**ng when the category has done so much to reduce the number of adult smokers requiring medical attention by being a driving force in the decline of smoking rates to record low levels in recent years.

“Today’s announcement is effectively a revenue grab from former smokers and penalising them for making considerably less harmful choices. It would also make more sense for v**es to be taxed at a lower VAT rate, which is the case for other Ni****ne Replacement Therapies, which have proven to be considerably less successful than v**es in helping smokers quit.

“We will be responding to the Va**ng Products Duty Consultation that sets out the proposals for how the duty will be designed and implemented.”

The UK Va**ng Industry Association welcomes the latest official data which shows that just 11.9% of the UK population now smokes, the lowest level since records began.

The most dramatic fall is in the 18-24 age group where smoking has plummeted from 25.7% in 2011 to just 9.8% in 2023.

When the ONS last reported on smoking rates in December 2022, it said that va**ng had played a ‘major role’ in the decline.

And with the latest data showing that va**ng rates are highest in the age group where smoking is declining fastest, there is clear evidence that va**ng continues to help smokers quit.
