A quick selection for our great friends at .clermont … plus a view to some old farts from espana …



A quick reflection on those various Spanish wines … before the pricey top Cuvees existed… at this time reserva and gran reserva were the only ones existing… so most of them held fantastically well… if you have a chance to come along some of those, let’s say pre 2000 s spaniards try on ! Most of the time, even crianza are worth it within a 20/25 yo time !!!

Rangement d’une petite série de très vieux vin espagnol, bien avant que les sélections parère ou les vins extrêmement chers de ces régions n’existent. À cette époque, les réserva et gran réserva étaient de telle qualité qu’il pouvait se garder pendant des décennies… c’est d’ailleurs toujours le cas, mais les volumes étaient infiniment moindres… d’où une qualité supérieure à mon avis.

After a long month of recovery ❤️‍🩹 from backpain and leg injury… got back on feet for work and mzybe activities shortly enough …

would advise on time and healing process … to me work and friends are just one huge part of it … again the wine in a way helps through links and connections !!! Lots of fun and émotions to come too …

the mountains quietness and green slopes of Auvergne volcano’s is a great place to start again and feeling helpfull to Paul and his team at .de.la.banne was great again !!! Merci l ami pour ta confiance indéfectible ! On se voir bientôt sur la Corde pour une belle course mon petit 😎😜😘

Talking about wines, sadly the white burgundies were premox … charmes from 1913 was really gone … sauzet held pretty well but still for cazetiers you d expect sth way higher in energy and depth … fantastic reductive pinot from tolpuddle … elegant and absolute stunner from Combard and Barge !!! Alongside an ampodium 13 which needed to open up as well but showed well too …

Finally got to taste the savage red made of Syrah what a great Wine with a lot of expression, sooth pepper, spices very much like a run Valley wine.long and elegant… very very good Wine.

Lucky to taste as well, the peter valder riesling which is a very high-quality as well with some ripeness and power… long and complex !!!

Stuck because of a condition doesn’t mean no fun … nor no tasting ! Giving the Pinot a chance 😎

Mortet 10 … il y a encore du fruit et ça tient sacrément la route…? Le bois est intégré, et la puissance du millésime a permis une jolie évolution.

Estournelles 2013… le CoraVin ne l’aide pas. Mais la puissance contenue dans ce cru se ressent tout de suite et prouve une fois encore, la patte des frères Humbert sur ses terroirs de Gevrey… 1 fois deux plus, ces terroirs d altitude sur un millésime frais montre potentiel et la qualité de la côte de Saint-Jacques ! une fois encore 😝. le bois est parfaitement intégré, et le jus présent donne une fraîcheur et une à vie incroyable !

Le San Andreas 2016 est un exemple parfait de Pinot US et Sonoma Coast, il lui faut du temps et de l aeration pour rejoindre en qualité le précédent, mais une fois qu’il a bien respiré la qualité de fruits et la sapidité n’a rien à envier au précédent. Deux styles différents qui se complètent et se rejoignent dans l’excellence.

Extremely interesting lineup of Pinot Noir with a tie between the Gevrey 1er cru and the San Andreas in very opposite styles that in the end finishes a little bit the same in the pallet with extremely long salivating sort to finish. Exquisite !

The Porte is just cherry on the cake with all the characteristics of ages tawny ports. Toffee, raisins, dry orange peel, cinnamon, spices it s all there with a lingering finish supported by bright and vivid acid !!! Exceptional

Austrian delight with wachau Pichler 2011 Riesling in superleggero Syrah /hermitage lots if Ginger, ripe old citrus fruits … long and powerfull …

Fini les études pour cette année, le premier week-end off avec les copains, il fallait bien terminer les bouteilles entamées pour les révisions… méthode, peu orthodoxe pour rafraîchir, mais tellement efficace, et dans un cadre toujours aussi grandiose !

This year’s studies are finished, but still a lot of wine to be drunk as a lot of samples were coravined ! Not easy to get the right glasses when Camping but still there is a way ! Same as for cooling, most efficient and unorthodox is the river 😅😂😜

Now, little bit more work and then more mountain and tastings during the holidays !

Catala hospitalitat !

You know they say small is beautiful, or less is more … well again the idiom seems right ! When the smaller wineries and best wine makers in the country welcome you just like a prince !!!

Incredible insight on all vines Xarell lo and indigenous as maccabeo, malvasia de sitges … thanks a lot to and for their warm welcome and time to show me around the old vines they nurture so well to do such precise and tremendous wines !

Again with low pH and high levels of acidity some vines are well suited to Mediterranean climate and what is about to happen in our areas !!! Since the edge of Western Europe and its Mediterranean coastline are meant to be some of the most hit areas by climate change ! Some regenerative practices combined with old timers wisdom may soften the shock 😩🤷‍♂️

Comment remercier Enric et Merce pour leur accueil et le temps passé à m’expliquer leur travail et visiter leur vignoble !

Le travail et l’écoute ainsi que l’observation de l’environnement montre à quel point il existe encore des solutions pour atténuer le choc qui nous attend dans les 30 à 50 prochaines années.

L’ viticulture précise, intelligente et pleine de bon sens montre des résultats très positif, combiné à une pluie salvatrice depuis le début du printemps. la Catalogne a reverdi et repris de la vigueur. Ceci ne doit pas masquer les trois années de sécheresse qui viennent de passer.

Well not that easy to get into real winemakers and viticulture team when in Rioja or Ribera del Duero mostly run by massive companies ! Only enoturismo offers !

Please consider wine professionals a little better, we are the one making you famous on the field and talking about your wines.

Even meeting Up With a trainee would be nice, I don’t need to meet the senior Winemaker or the chief if operations but someone who knows what he’s talking about and not some cellar door employees…

Hopefully there was Catalonia and smaller scale wineries and real people I could meet and learn and discuss about, this will be the next post. Now the championship was great and we had wonderful food ! Fantastic experience with great teammates! Let s do this again and stronger 💪

Une belle déception, cette Ribera del Duero, tout comme La Rioja d ailleurs ! Trop de gros Domaine, et de grosses compagnies derrière, l’impossibilité de rencontrer des oenologues ou des viticulteurs me semble un, deshonneur de la profession. 30 ans dans le Vin, et c’est de pire en pire. Ces groupes devraient un peu réfléchir, nous sommes ceux qui les faisons vivre sur le terrain et qui parlons de eux tous les jours. Cette arrogance ou désintérêt est a revoir a mon avis !

Heureusement Catalogne sauve la mise avec des vins incroyables et des personnes disponibles… mais ce sera une autre publication !

Already 2 weeks ago… since then litteraly buckets of water fell in !

Massif du Sancy is very alike to the Australian s dividing range and Mount Kosciuszko ! Way smaller by length but still it s mostly not so elevated and is a barrier from one ocean to the inner continent ! So I decided to celebrate bday up with a favorite from last years !

grenache is a stunner from old grenache vines from Blewitt Springs a stone throw from mc laren vale !

It s a wine that requires further aging of course but will deliver fragrant and blueberry jam flavours and salty ink squid finish with density snd purity ! In the best Gigondas style I d say ! Needs mostly lot of aeration ! Which by the way is quite surprising for a Grenache which tend to be quite sensible to oxidation.

Déjà 15 jours que cette petite fenêtre de ski est passée. Le sens si bien que plus petit a des grandes similarités avec le sommet de l’Australie, le mont koscziuscko peut éleves tous les deux. Ils subissent les arrivees oceaniques et protegent l interieur des terres. Vegetation importante sur les pentes arrosees et sommets peles par les vents d Ouest 😜. Pour cette dernière journée de ski de rando, il était amusant de monter, un des coups de cœur de l’Australie de l’an passé. Le magnifique grenache de MMAD est une expression, magnifique du cépage, issue de vieille vigne, proche d’Adélaïde et de l’océan austral (indien) ! Un vin au fruité dense et a la concentration mesurée ! Complexe, riche et salin. Il a besoin de beaucoup s’aérer pour montrer tout son potentiel qu’il le rapproche d’un grand Vin de Gigondas dans le style.

Quick but just perfect week in Priorat and Montsant !

Cold mornings and bright sunny days ! So thrilling to climb again the magic of Siurana Gorges and thnks to taste some great wines from both appellations ! Danke

The 2021 vintage imo will remain one of the finest and most seductive from latest years in the area ! what’s your take on that vintage ???

Of course Al Limit and Dominik s wines are a very unique style and combination ! Still all the others tasted at were pretty much lighter and ethereal than usual.

Last 2 pictures taken in Arbossar and from that granny Carignan I zoomed on Les Manyes which are other side of the hill facing notth towards la Vertiebra … sierra de Montsant

Une petite semaine dans le Priorat qui permet de remettre les mains sur ce caillou de Siurana et grâce à Isabel ne goûter en détail et au calme les Vins magnifiques de Dominik Huber !

Cet endroit m’attire à chaque fois pour sa lumière, ces paysages, marqué par sa solitude, son isolement et son côté sauvage que l’on retrouve dans les vins qui ont quelque chose d’unique, avec très certainement les meilleurs, Carignan dy monde. Les Grenache sont aussi exceptionnels mais plus concurrencés mondialement 😎😝.

Le millésime 2021 marque un style qui tend à disparaître autour de la Méditerranée. Fraîcheur, élégance, finesse, tout y est à mon sens. Ce millésime largement déguster à la Barcelona Wine Week sera marqué d’une pierre blanche

Passage eclair sous le soleil de la Cote Vermeil et sa lumière si belle et intense.

Quick and in depth visit to Catalan wonderland in Banyuls and Collioure, under splendid light and colours.

Here the mountains just jumps into the sea and the heroic viticulture means everything ! Hail to the whites from the area full of freshness and yet powerful !

Ici la montagne plonge littéralement dans la mer et le schiste donne au Vin, une profondeur et un style incomparable. Les blancs sont au sommet du sud.

Throwback on wine Paris … long gone now ! Busy days since and then. Not much time to taste around unfortunately but here are a few wines from US Pavillon next to our boot !

Riesling from Finger Lake are as always very good and less sweet than in the past with a little Mosel touch ! Cabs from California less and less caricatural oaky fat bast**ds ! Again Heitz steels the show ! Fantastic Chardonnay s from Oregon at with David Adelsheim himself, founder and pioneer ! Thanks to for her insights on the hills and their unique soils ! See you in Bordeaux maybe 😜

Retour sur Wine Paris et ces journées chargées à montrer le portefeuille de SWW … un petit tour rapide sur les stands voisins notamment US pour déguster les classiques de l Oregon, Napa et NY …

Les Cabernet de Californie, redeviennent des grands classiques, mur, mais sans sur extraction, ni bois excessif. Les acidités sont élevées et les vins très équilibrés. Un régal malgré des prix élevés heitz 1 fois 2 + 1 cran au-dessus pour nos palais français. Les rieslings des Finger Lakes précis et tendus sont aussi en progression et la grande surprise vient des Chardonnay d Oregon qui annoncent de grandes cuvées de garde ! La diversité des sols et des parcelles chez Adelsheim montrent les possibilités de la Willamette Valley !

Great US wines again !!! Bravo !

Rapide passage sur les pentes sud du Ventoux et dégustation de quelques références au caveau de Gigondas. Je ne peux que recommander ces petits caveaux syndicaux qui sont issus de la volonté locale de s ouvrir au plus grand nombre …

Ils permettent, que vous soyez professionnels ou non de goûter quasi tous les vins de l appellation et de se faire une idée précise des millésimes, domaines, et des zones de production …

Existe sur tous les villages environnants, etc …

Une région parfaite pour le vélo en toutes saisons… attention au mistral quand même !!! 😇

Barcelona wine week day one and two …

Intense 2 days in quite noisy surroundings 😅🤪 not easy to focus on those fairs as it s tasting with purpose !!! Or at least trying to 😵‍💫

Goal, Albariño ✅ Verdejo ✅ Tempranillo ✅ in different styles ✅ cava and corpinnat ✅ … gsm blends ✅

Still a lot to go but we re getting there slowly 😅 baby steps !

Still in a non studying purpose the overall quality is clearly there, wine styles are evolving everywhere … the classics are classics and great for that !!! Some bargains as always with Spain !!! Small producers of Rioja are just on the move ! Check them out as styles are opposites from single vineyards non oak aged wines like or … and classics style as or ! Badaran is the new trend 😎🤣 and of course our friends !

Un tour d Espagne sans le maillot rouge ! Mais un vrai travail de recherche et compréhension pour moi cette fois ci ! Pas facile de se concentrer avec le bruit, le monde et des vins qu on connaît et où il faut aussi s arrêter et saluer 😝… amis français amateurs de Grenache et Carignan … ne ratez pas les 2021 de Priorat … quelque chose me dit qu’ils vont rester dans l’histoire…

10 days ago already, too intense week to post anything ! Now back at home “digesting” the whole thing ! Master of wine seminar y1 was just kicking perfectly with meeting up students and visiting 3 regions /dac in one day

Both MW s Roman Horwath and .wickhoff.76 have been tremendous hosts welcoming us on a Saturday. Apologise again to Andreas 😭🤪

We never imagined we will spend the whole week tasting tasting that many gruners and rieslings but it was a very nice start to it 😎😝. Many different styles, sizes and ways to work. Urban s wines at .wines are unique here as well as for stem inclusion, Malo done, 48 hours skin contact and have incredible depth and acidity even with low figures 🥂👍 bravo !

The kellerberg at Wachau has a smell of a myth, and history ! Fantastic line up from easy drinking great value wines to more complex crus !

Brundlmayer being one of the iconic houses as well with the again mythical Heilligenstein shows how far Austrian s wines have been since 1986 Scandal ! Way to go

Un grand merci à toutes les personnes que nous avons rencontré et visiter sur ces quelques jours. Un grand pays de blanc, avec évidemment le Grüner Veltliner et quelques-uns des riesling les plus intéressants de la planète. Le poste sur les rouges arrivera un peu plus t**d dans la semaine. 😜😎

Il a fallu un peu de temps pour enfin aller visiter ces vignobles autrichiens qui sont pour la plupart un peu loin, des stations de ski et les montagnes 😎😜

Maintenant au boulot, l’examen c’est en juin !

Here is a short throwback of the Holliday s specials we had mainly with which is a big helper in tastings nowadays.

Many great wines here with a sip of 2021 whites in Burgundy through Patrick Essa s wines ! Needs a lot of air but then opens up to a long and crisp yet ripe style of Chardonnay always feeling the place still !

Very proud to struggle to sell bubbles from overseas in France but we ll get there as the qpr is just insane with those blends !

Great morning tasting at our dear friends Jerome in !

Cannot describe the proprietary blend more than just the Best Bordeaux blend I had in a very long time ! Again, I’m not a super specialist of Napa Valley wines, but I wonder why those lesser or so called vintages are like nowadays in the best estates. As for me, it has everything, length, good body, extended fruit profile, combined with tertiary notes ! Can hardly be better ! Tremendous wine !

The Michael Shiraz 1998 is still a friggin baby ! Fruit bomb with stil long way to go ! Quality oak flavors still present and a long aftertaste !

The range is always a stunner and consistent, with balanced fruit, sugar, and great acidity to support the lot !

Classic Italians, with the refine and subtle Barolo 2016 from Oddero ! Structured and ripe fruit old style Rosso from , need to taste the Brunello now 😎

Altogether, it’s a shortlist that it shows how diversely we drank and tasted lately 😍😍😍

Voici un petit récapitulatif des vins dégustés récemment, avec, comme toujours, une propension à goûter, large et diversifié. Tous les Vin étaient sublimes dans leur style.

Un vrai coup de cœur pour les bulles australienne et sud-africaine car au niveau de prix aujourd’hui, c’est quasiment imbattable, même en France. Bravo à eux.

De retour sur Insta après un été et un automne chargés, il fallait digérer tous les événements et les défis qui se tenaient devant moi, c’est donc avec plaisir et fierté que je suis désormais un des « happy few » MW Student. Chaque étape amène son lot de joies, doutes, et de travail ! Et ça il va en falloir pas mal pour réussir ce nouveau challenge d’une vie professionnelle déjà bien avancée et bien pleine. 💪

Une belle semaine de Septembre sur un petit nuage après l’annonce, mais ça y est on est dans le dur désormais et pour de bon ! Retour sur la bouteille de celebration, symbolique parce que c’est là que tout a commencé, Bordeaux et ses Cabernet de Rive Gauche, et ses Merlot de Rive Droite !

Back on the Gram, as it was quite a turmoil and a busy summer and all, digesting all the events and challenges I was facing ! Now I proudly announce that I in the program and an MW Student. Each stage brings a bit of ups, downs, doubts, joys, and work ! Work is going to be required to face and succeed that new challenge of an already busy and advanced work life !
Let s celebrate, with one bottle of my first steps thanks to family, and friends back in the day, that s where it all started, Bordeaux, St Emilion, Medoc.... 🍾 Cabernet, Merlot, it was all there ! 30 years ago ! Already 😱 ! Like a dream, sometimes a nightmare, sleepless
nights winemaking in Australia or Languedoc, so many incredibly passionate people met along the road ! Extremely rewarding sometimes !

Sorry to all that I forgot, and the one who got tagged and don’t even remember me 😜 but you truly are in my heart and soul forever (cheasy no ? 😎 ) !

Quand le ciel rencontre la terre, le soleil et les éléments se mêlent dans le calme de l horizon… le vent malheureusement chaud du Sud nous réveillera le matin suivant après la douce fraîcheur du soir !

Toujours aussi agréable de passer un moment avec et son équipe du refuge ! Après la tempête du service le lieu retrouve sa quiétude et son inimitable coucher de soleil !

Rencontre avec au petit déjeuner … chit chat autour de l Auvergne et son climat si particulier 🤪

pour les vins cette année le refuge étend très sérieusement sa gamme avec une carte orientée montagne et volcans qui nous montre la diversité des terroirs, cépages et vins disponibles autour de l Europe et du monde !!!

Les vins des grands terroirs savoyards de avec la Roussette florale et miellée et une Mondeuse juteuse, épicée, colorée et longue …

Du Nebbiolo Lombard de , Etna Rosso de Alta Mora ou des Malbec de issus de vignes travaillées au dessus de 1700 m d altitude 😱🤪

Un choix complet et unique dans la région qui ne délaisse pas nos vins régionaux ni les autres vignobles français évidemment ! Juste un beau complément pour des clients au sommet 😉
