I had the pleasure to meet up with my athletes Stathis and Vargin in Milano this weekend for 24th edition of Milano marathon.
They have both been training well going into this but in much different environments than what we experienced on race day - low humidity and 12-20C.
Vargin will normally do his training in either Phuket or Singapore in much greater heat and humidity.
Stathis being based in Cyprus has to deal with high temperatures as well.
From a coach perspective the differences in heat and humidity in training vs racing makes the race plan more challenging as the external factors that normally would limit an athlete’s ability to perform would be less of a factor here.
Nevertheless, we decided that I would pace Vargin for a sub 3:15 finish time as his training suggested it was possible.
The gun went off and 3 hours and 13 minutes later we shook hands when crossing the finish line together ✅

I’ll now fly back to Denmark for a month before heading to Cyprus for a one week training camp with some of my Credo-athletes 🔥🔥

Thank you Stathis and Vargin for a wonderful weekend and see you soon 💪

Some crazy accomplishments from two of my athletes this weekend:

Picture 1: Friday night Paul started a 8 hour trail run as last prep before UTMB Hong Kong in a few weeks.

Picture 2: gets 10th place at Desaru MTB race.

Picture 3: Teo is back at it! Only this time it’s the Salomon Forest Force 42km trail run which he won 🥇 🤯🥳

Well done both of you 💪

Tomorrow we will have a new set of Ironman world champions across the different age groups.
Can’t believe it’s almost one year since my athlete Ulrik Jespersen won M50 in Hawaii 🤯

Good luck to everyone racing tomorrow!

So happy to see getting his black T-shirt at yesterday 😍
Andreas has been so consistent and determined in his training over the last 9 months which makes this result even more satisfying 😍🙌👏

Congratulations Andreas - you earned this one 🫡💪

Great to see Anton Kort back racing (70.3 Kazakhstan) this weekend 😍
With the 5th fastest swim AND bike (overall) Anton was in a great position going into the run. Here he ran a solid 1:35 half marathon - enough for a 2nd place in the M45 and a 6th overall 👏👏💪

Well done mate!

Ironman Hamburg will sadly be remembered for the tragedy that happened during the race. A motorcycle collided with an athlete on his bike - leaving one dead and two others injured 😥😥
Watching the amount of motorcycles on narrow roads among the top PROs - one can only hope that organisers around the world will take a second look at their setup!

From a coaching perspective Hamburg was a swing and a miss.
looked like he was on track to get the result he has been training for. Unfortunately Lars fell on the way out of the water which left him with a bruised toe and a locked back which made him call it a day 22k into the run.
had an uncharacteristic off day. Coming into this race with probably his best build we had high expectations. But as I always says: “I don’t care how good the training has been - if you we can’t deliver on race day!” We haven’t analysed the data yet but if I were to find some positive takes it would be that running 3:09 on an off day is still pretty good 👍

Giving Søren Søndergaard () a couple of easy days of training after one week at Playitas resort.
Here is what he did:
🏊‍♂️: 14,3km / 4:40hr
🚴‍♂️: 384km / 18:00hr
🏃: 86km / 6:45hr
🏋️: 3hr
Total: 31:25hr of training
Pretty good for a happy amateur athlete 💪💪

Another great racing weekend for my athletes 🙌
Stuart Daniels was first man up at 70.3 Vietnam where they were experiencing extreme (even by Vietnam standards) temperatures. However, Stuart kept his cool and paced himself accordingly which led him to 2nd place in his AG. 👏👏

At 70.3 Italy I had , , .ps and racing.
Iosif ended up with the fastest time of the four in 4:36 for a massive PB 💪

Stathis and Andreas followed with 4:52 and 4:56 respectively- again PBs for both 💪💪

Lastly Lorenzo did his first ever 70.3 and brought it home I 5:44 - well done 👏👏

I’ve have a lot of athletes racing the 70.3 distance this weekend and then I have Paul! Tomorrow he will take on Himalaya Xtri - an Ironman in Nepal that includes 4000m of elevation on the bike and another 2500m on the run - all done in altitude 😵‍💫Paul has prepared well for this one but has tremendous respect for the task ahead.
I wish all my athletes best of luck this weekend 🤞👍

Incredibly happy for the performance of Rodney Thomas at the London Marathon last Sunday.
Not only did he smash his PB from 10 years ago but at the age of 55 he still managed to run 3:07 with negative split 👏👍

Congratulations Rod!

Our focus will now switch to Ironman 70.3 racing.
