🍺 News from Erlings 🍺

Tuesday morning started with a surprising message from one of our valued neighbours, whose business is just some meters down the road. We knew something was off when he asked if we had time for a quick chat—along with a photo of our sign, which usually hangs above our door.

Apparently, the sign had been found 500 meters down the road, having somehow been removed from the wall 😕

We’re relieved that it’s not too badly damaged and, after a little repair work, it should be good to go back up where it belongs. That said, we’re definitely puzzled—and not too thrilled—about how it ended up there in the first place 🤔

Maybe someone mistook it for a pull-up bar and overestimated the strength of the bolts? Or perhaps someone, in a moment of questionable decision-making, thought it might make a cool souvenir—only to reconsider after a short 500-meter walk.

We’re not sure what happened, but if anyone has a clue, we'd appreciate to hear it! We get it—mistakes happen, and maybe even after a beer or two, not all ideas are great ones 🍻

If someone wants to reach out and have a chat about it, we would be thankful and open to that 🙂

Vi ses (even if for now, without a sign on the wall) 🙂

🍺 Fresh Arrival from Observatoriet 🍺

Today, we’ve received another fresh creation from Observatoriet – MONUMENT Golden Wild Ale – Tilquin Barrel 🎉

Some of you might recognize the bottle, as the Monument Golden Wild Ale – Côte d'Or has been on our shelves for some time now. That version was a golden wild ale matured for 14 months in Côte d'Or barrels.

The new Monument Golden Wild Ale – Tilquin Barrel, on the other hand, spent 14 months maturing in barrels from Geuzerie Tilquin, which gave it its unique character – and its name 🍇🛢️

Both beers share a golden yellow colour and an ABV of 8.3%, spiced and cold-hopped at the end of maturation to bring out even more complexity. When it comes to the Monument Golden Wild Ale – Tilquin Barrel, it's said that there was still a touch of lambic left in the barrels when they were filled with Monument, adding an extra layer of depth 🍾✨

That’s what we know for now—some other details remain a well-kept secret, which is understandable given the consistently high quality of Observatoriet’s releases 😉

What’s no secret? The beer is now available in our shop, and as always, it’s set to deliver at a high level 🙌

🍺 New Arrival from Mad Scientist 🍺

Last week, alongside other fresh brews from Mad Scientist , we received a special new Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout from their Barrel Project series.

Introducing HAPPY FINISH 2024 EQUX DE VIE PRUNE—a Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout matured in 🍷 Port Wine and Plum Brandy 🍑

Here are the Cellar Master’s Notes:

"We came back fifth time with this series in series concept, the happy finish, where we double barrel age nasty imperial Stouts, finishing them in particularly interesting barrels, in this case, french dried plum brandy, which spoke for itself immediately at the first sniff. Rich fruitiness, deep dried flavours, backboning chocolate and some berries from the port barrel. Altogether 2 and a half years of wood maturing had a deep impact indeed. Not only on the beer but also on us!"

The beer is now available on our shelves 🏃‍♀️💨

🍺 Danish Beer Blogger Awards 2024 🍺

This weekend, the Danish Beer Blogger Awards 2024 took place, and we’d like to take a moment to say thank you for the nomination as well as the fantastic event, and to congratulate all the other breweries, venues, and individuals who were nominated—and, of course, those who took home a win 🏆

A huge shoutout to Niklas from .dk, who did a great job and played a major role in organizing such a fun event 🎉

Even though we ended up as the Lucky Last among the Forhandler 2024, it was an honour to be nominated and to be part of it 😉

Attending the event and spending the day with so many craft beer enthusiasts and industry professionals was a pleasure. Being part of this community is both inspiring and a lot of fun, and the conversations with fellow beer enthusiasts are always enriching 🍻

A big thanks to Simon from Observatoriet, crowned Brewery of the Year 2023, for giving us an exclusive brewery tour. And of course, thanks to Jesper from Dear Hill Brewing for sharing some of his fantastic beers.

The awards take place every year, so if you’re interested in joining next time, make sure to mark it in your calendar! The event is open not only to industry folks but also to all craft beer enthusiasts 🗓️

🍺 Erling’s Venner Smager: I’m Selling Bananas by Mad Scientist 🍺

This week, Rasmus Flarup took the time to dive into I’m Selling Bananas, an Ice Cream Smoothie Sour Braggot from Mad Scientist, and shared his thoughts with us (though we’ll overlook the glassware choice for now 😉):

Mvh Rasmus & Hjalte"

Thank you both for your great review—we’re happy you enjoyed the beer!

A quick note on glassware: while it may not be as crucial for some styles as it is for others, the right glass can help our senses better engage with the beer. For a Smoothie Sour, it might not make a world of difference, but I guess we’d agree that a Heineken glass isn’t the optimal choice for showcasing such a unique brew 😉
Nevertheless, tasting the hop character in a Braggot-style smoothie sour is a gift in itself and speaks for a fine brew - no matter what glass - perhaps a gift to you two from the elves and wizards in the room 😎

Jokes aside - Thanks again for the nice review 🍌

🍺 Baltic Porter Day 2025 🍺

Tomorrow is the official Baltic Porter Day a celebration held high by Baltic Porter Day and beer enthusiasts across the globe 🌍

Where does it come from?
Baltic Porter originates in the Baltic region, blending English Porter traditions with lagering techniques from Central and Eastern Europe. It’s known for its strength, smoothness, and complexity. Baltic Porter Day was initiated by Polish beer enthusiasts and honours this historic style every year on the third Saturday of January ✨

What makes it special?
Rich malt profiles, notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and dried fruits define the style. Crafted with lager yeast or cold fermentation, it boasts a clean, smooth finish.

To celebrate, we’ve got three Baltic Porters for you, including two fresh arrivals:

✨ Śreżoga by Gamma (7.7%)
Created by Gamma’s Polish brewers, Tomasz and Pawel, this Baltic Porter takes its name from the Polish word for "crepuscular rays". With malty complexity, a hint of roast, and low bitterness, it features layers of dark chocolate and subtle fruit notes from cold fermentation, delivering a smooth, full-bodied experience.

✨ Ports of Call by Flying Couch (7.9%)
Brewed with smoked beechwood for light smokiness, roasted malts for deep notes, and chocolate rye for sweetness and balance. Minimal hopping ensures the malt is the star.

✨ ÖÖ by Põhjala (10.5%)
The strongest of the lineup, ÖÖ ("night" in Estonian) was Põhjala’s first commercial release and remains iconic. Dark as an Estonian winter, it’s full of roasted malt, dark fruit, caramel, toffee, licorice, and a touch of smoke—a perfect winter warmer.

Looking for the Baltic Porter to enjoy tomorrow?
We’ve got you covered 🍻

🍺 Fresh News from Humleland 🍺

Yesterday, we received three fresh beers from Humleland 🇩🇰

Just 750 metres from our Butik, the Humleland team brews their beers, constantly experimenting with new styles and recipes. Once again, they’ve delivered a fine lineup ✨

First up is the new FYRAFTEN, a Belgian-style Double fermented with Abbey Ale yeast and hopped with Moutere and East Kent Goldings. The fruity notes from the Belgian yeast are nicely supported by the hops 🌿
What are East Kent Golding Hops, and where do they come from? These classic English hops are known for their smooth, floral, and slightly earthy character, often with hints of honey and spice. Cultivated since the 18th century, they’re a cornerstone of traditional British ales and are frequently associated with the finest English classics.

Next is DET ER ALTID SÆSON, a spicy Belgian Saison where New Zealand hops, Southern Cross and Nelson Sauvin, add a nice twist. Expect fruity grape notes alongside the light spice of a classic saison 😋

Lastly, we’re happy to welcome back Frugtbølgen 6, a kettle sour with lactose, packed with fresh raspberry and pink guava fruit purée 🍊

Here’s the lineup in detail:

🍇 DET ER ALTID SÆSON – 6.3% Saison (Hoppy with Southern Cross & Nelson Sauvin)

🍊 FYRAFTEN – 7.5% Double (Hopped with Moutere & East Kent Goldings)

🍓 FRUGTBØLGEN 6 – 6.2% Sour Ale (With Raspberry & Pink Guava)

All three beers are now chilling in our fridges ❄️

🍺 New Arrivals from CoolHead 🍺

We’ve been waiting for to join the ranks of breweries delivering the wildly popular Smoothie Sours, and now they’ve done it in spectacular fashion 🎉 Their first release in this style is nothing short of extraordinary—and they’ve pulled out all the stops with a collaboration featuring none other than the American legends, Mortalis Brewing ✨

The secret? American marshmallows of a very specific kind, paired with the finest tart raspberries Finland has to offer. CoolHead describes their new release like this:

"Yes, for our first smoothie sour in a few years we have only combined with the very BEST in the style, Mortalis from upper state NY. We have combined their famous hydra recipe with our souring method to produce an INSANE beer consisting of 60% unfermented fruit!!! We imported American marshmallows for this brew & selected only the finest, Finnish, tart Raspberries to produce raspberries & cream in a super THICK, some say, alcoholic beverage. Our biggest beer release of the year is ready to kick start 2025"

But that’s not all. Alongside this release, we’re also welcoming fresh supplies of the Salted Liquorice Raspberry Sour, the Salmiac Licorice Cherry Sour, and an array of brand-new brews 🎉

Here’s what’s new in the Butik:

🌟 KAIMATA – 6.5% NEIPA (Peacherine & NZ Cascade)

🌟 THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE HOPPY – 8% West Coast DIPA (Citra, Simcoe & Mosaic)

🥥 PINA COLADA – 8% Pastry Sour

🍭 SALTED LICORICE RASPBERRY SOUR – 5% Nordic Sour (Raspberry, Licorice)

🍒 SALMIAC LICORICE CHERRY SOUR – 5% Candy Sour (Salty/Sweet Licorice & Red Berry Candies)

🍇 QUEENS JAM – 5% Nordic Sour (Raspberry, Blueberry)

🥭 FRESHLY SQUEEZED: MANGO & PAPAYA – 10% Pastry Sour (Mango, Papaya)

🍷 THE HEALER – 10% Pastry Sour (Redcurrant, Pomegranate)

🖤 FRESHLY SQUEEZED X HYDRA – 7% Smoothie Sour (Raspberry, Blackcurrant, Marshmallow) – COLLAB w/ MORTALIS

🔔 Important Note: We only received 12 cans of the FRESHLY SQUEEZED X HYDRA in the shop, and there won’t be another delivery. So, if you’re eager to try this Smoothie Sour, we recommend sending us a message to reserve a can before they’re gone!

🍻 New Arrivals from Mad Scientist 🍯

Last week, we received fresh brews from Mad Scientist, including some unique creations from their Mead Scientist and MadX range 🎉

While Mad Scientist is well-known for their brews, many of which are staples in our Butik, the Mead Scientist line brings something special to the table, offering meads and Braggots. For those unfamiliar, a Braggot is a hybrid between beer and mead, made with both malt and honey. The result? A harmony of honey’s sweetness and the beer’s complexity 😋

This week, we’ve got two exciting sour Braggots in: YOUR WEEKEND LOVER, and its new counterpart, YOUR MIDNIGHT LOVER, which now features strawberries 🍓
And what’s the deal with purple basil? This unique herb adds a subtle sweet spiciness and delicate floral notes, beautifully complementing the zesty lime and fruity sweetness 🌿

Moreover, after some time, we’re thrilled to have a new Wild Ale from MadX, Mad Scientist’s barrel-aged Wild Ale project. The new release, Fantastic Yeasts And Where To Find Them Elderflower 2024, is an aged golden sour which was delicately infused with elderflower 🌸

Rounding off the arrivals is the latest addition to their Popstar series: Indie Popstar, a gluten-free single-hop West Coast IPA brewed with Pacific Sunrise hops. Native to New Zealand, these hops bring bright citrus, juicy tropical fruit, and a touch of pine 🌏✨

Here’s the full lineup:

🍺 YOUR WEEKEND LOVER – 6.6% Sour Braggot (With Lime & Purple Basil)

🍓 YOUR MIDNIGHT LOVER – 6.4% Sour Braggot (With Lime, Strawberry & Purple Basil)

🌟 INDIE POPSTAR – 6.2% Gluten-Free West Coast IPA (Single Hop with Pacific Sunrise)

🌸 FANTASTIC YEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM ELDERFLOWER 2024 – 5.6% Barrel-Aged Golden Sour Ale (With Elderflower)

You’ll find all these brews on our shelves now 🏃‍♀️💨

🍺 Beer of the Week: Orange O from Mad Scientist 🍺

This week’s beer of the week is Orange O, an Orange Cour Candy Braggot from Mad Scientist 🍊✨

What’s a Braggot, you ask? 🤔
A Braggot is a hybrid between beer and mead, blending the maltiness of beer with the natural sweetness of honey. The result is a drink that’s both rich and unique 😋

Orange O showcases this beautifully: the sweetness of honey, the tartness of the brew, and the vibrant fruitiness of orange come together in perfect harmony to create a refreshing treat 🍯🍺🍊

This week, you can grab it for 39,20KR instead of 49KR 🎉

This offer is valid until the 19th of January or while stocks last 🏃💨

🍺 Erling's Venne Smager: AGGOURAPHOBIA from Hop Hooligans 🍺

This week, Kathrine took the time to dive into AGGOURAPHOBIA, a Tzatziki Sour Ale from Hop Hooligans, and shared her thoughts with us:

We couldn’t agree more! This description nails it, especially the observation that the aroma is more of an experience than a pleasure—a sentiment echoed during our tasting last night 🍻

That said, this Tzatziki Sour Ale tastes exactly like it should—like tzatziki in a can. If that piques your curiosity, swing by the shop and grab a can to try for yourself 😋

Just a little tip: Most people would probably consider it a beer to share 😉

🍺 New Non-Alcoholic Beers at Erlings 🍺

We’ve quietly had a variety of non-alcoholic options in our shop for some time now, but it’s high time they got their moment in the spotlight 🌟

Non-alcoholic beverages are becoming increasingly important, with the alcohol-free beer market being one of the fastest-growing segments in the industry. With movements like Dry January and Sober October, alongside a general focus on health and mindfulness, more people are exploring these flavorful alternatives.

We’ve also noticed the rising demand for non-alcoholic beers in our Butik and are committed to expanding our selection throughout the year. Here’s a look at 4 options which are, amongst others, currently in our Alcohol-Free Corner:

🍻 New Arrival: Observatoriet x Fanø Bryghus x Stepping Stone - JYLLAND 🍻

Today, a new beer from Observatoriet has arrived, and it’s as thrilling as they come!

Observatoriet has become one of our most beloved breweries when it comes to wild ales. Why? It’s the consistently high quality that Simon delivers—crafting beers that are both complex and approachable, making them perfect for a range of palates and occasions. Observatoriet has mastered the art of balancing depth and drinkability, winning over seasoned craft beer enthusiasts and newcomers alike 🍂🍺

In 2023, Observatoriet was crowned Brewery of the Year by the Danish Beer Bloggers. In 2024, Stepping Stone took that same title, and Fanø Bryghus is well-known for its bold dark beer creations, amongst other styles. Now, these three have joined forces to create JYLLAND—a collaboration that truly showcases some great Danish craft beer and talent from Jylland 🇩🇰

🌟 What is JYLLAND? 🌟
JYLLAND is a Dark Wild Ale Blend, starting with Fanø Bryghus’ Harold Bluetooth and Stepping Stone’s Respite. These beers were then aged in wood vessels and blended with Wild Ale from Observatoriet. The result? A beer that combines the expertise, creativity, and spirit of three breweries. The bottle even called it:

“A unique milestone in Danish Craft Beer.”

🍺 A Little Fun Fact
During a recent trip back home to Dortmund, I (Benedikt) stumbled upon two bottles of Observatoriet in a small bottle shop. It was a nice surprise to see that Observatoriet is making waves in Dortmund and internationally 🌍

Be that as it may, JYLLAND is now on our shelves—ready for you to experience this exciting collaboration firsthand 🍻

07/01/2025

🍺 New Arrival at Erlings: Guinness Special Export Stout 🍺

Among the many craft beers in our Butik, you'll now find a brew from a brewery that, while iconic, stands apart due to its scale: Guinness 🖤

Guinness Special Export Stout is an 8% export stout, offering a rich, complex aroma with sweet, malty-biscuit notes. Its deep black colour, full body, and mild bitterness make it a treat for the palate, rounded out by crisp CO2 carbonation 😋

Guinness describes it best:

“Guinness Special Export was, you guessed it, specially exported to Belgium in the 1940s and was the first Guinness beer to be served in Belgium after World War 2. So, how did this continental brew come to life? Well, John Martin was an English brewer living in Belgium who shared Arthur's thirst for exploration and adventure. In 1944, he ventured through the doors of St. James's Gate with a request to create a truly Irish stout with a fiercer punch and sweeter aftertaste, to suit the palate of his Belgium friends. The Guinness brewers, never ones to turn down a challenge, of course obliged and that's what he got. An adventurer's black gold.”

Guinness is more than just a beer—it’s a piece of history. Founded in Dublin in 1759, its pioneering brewing techniques and unique stout have made it a global icon. Guinness revolutionized beer with its nitrogenated draught stout, elevating the stout style and shaping how we enjoy it today.

The story of Guinness isn’t just about Ireland. While it’s most consumed in Great Britain and Ireland, countries like Nigeria and Cameroon follow closely behind. This popularity of Guinness in Africa is rooted in both colonial ties and Guinness’s strong branding, which, in parts of Africa, is associated with masculinity and virility 😉
