Craaazy! Was soll ich sagen? Sometimes life´s a bitch and it takes time to realize that this is not true - Amen 😎

https://youtu.be/blbaae0twXk

Which is your favorite wine from Italy? Today I picked up this Brunello di Montalcino of Ciacci Piccolomini D’Aragona. It´s always a reminiscent of a noble Pinot Noir from Burgundy to me. Intense and full of energy, this balanced Sangiovese combines power and elegance, with a solid structure framing black cherry, blackberry, iron, to***co, almond and leather flavors. Dense, dusty tannins line the finish, but there's a lasting impression of ripe fruit. Shows excellent depth and length. 👉🏽 Forward to a friend;

In 2018 I visited Weingut Bründlmayer spontaneously during a short trip and shot a small video in the wine cellar with Vincent, son of Willi Bründlmayer. The interview is in German, but you can find English subtitles in the settings of your YouTube player.

Link in bio! Tap the ❤️ if you’re with me.

Willi Bründlmayer's family has been cultivating vineyards in the beautiful Kamptal (Austria) for generations. With extraordinary climatic and terroir characteristics and a large part of the love for viticulture, the Bründlmayer wines are among the most extraordinary in Austria. For experts, Willi Bründlmayer's wines shine with their incomparable depth and finesse. In addition, “they are also among the most durable in Austria”, as Rudolf Steurer, author of the renowned Austrian wine guide, once remarked. Without a doubt, the wines from the Bründlmayer winery have established themselves at the top of the league. Willi Bründlmayer, who has won numerous national and international competitions and awards, has repeatedly been voted one of the largest wine producers in the world and is one of the 50 most influential personalities in the world of wine.

The Vacherons are without question one of the leading wineries in the Sancerre. From the family's pioneering work in identifying and using the region's top terroirs to their leading position in biodynamic viticulture, there are only a few vintners in Sancerre, who are so demanding and getting endless credits.

Great-grandfather Maurice Vacheron tended a few vines when Sancerre was still a post-office on a village street. His son Jean was the first in the family to specialize in making wine, paying particular attention to the influence of the terroir on Sauvignon Blanc. The sons of Jean, Denis and Jean-Louis, consolidated the name Vacheron in Sancerre and showed the talent of the family not only with Sauvignon Blanc but also with Pinot Noir.

Today, Jean-Laurent and Jean-Louis have brought the winery to a completely new level of quality. They are 100% committed to biodynamic viticulture. The wines of the most valuable locations (e.g. "Les Romains" and "Le Paradis") are matured and bottled separately.

By the way: L'Enclos des Remparts, the flagship wine and at the same time the rarest of everything at the winery (only very few bottles got;) is NOT AOC SANCERRE. It´s simply a “country wine”: The AOC commission from 1936 saw no need to be awarded by the AOC for wines within the city limits. This Cru is located directly on the city wall and isolated from the rest of the appellation. Hence the idea to work this Clos differently: This south-west facing location is planted with “Pied Franc” (not grafted) in 2007 on the same soil type as “Les Romains”, a loamy soil with Silex (flint rich soils). These wines are predestined for sweetbreads, morel dishes, lobster or grilled fish ...

Roc d'Anglade - For several years now, the inconspicuous but personable winemaker Rémy Pédréno from the small Domaine Roc d’Anglade has risen to the Olympus of the best winemakers in the south of France. Not in the loud and shrill world of professional wine critics and brightly colored glossy magazines, but in the world of lovers of authentic and individual wines away from the mainstream. Out of pure intuition, Rémy Pédréno, descendant of Spanish immigrants, switched from computer science to wine and brought in his first harvest in 1999.

Roc d'Anglade is present everywhere in France and has its place on every major wine list besides the wines of Frédéric Albaret (Saint Antonin), Christophe Peyrus (Clos Marie), Laurent Vaillé (Grange des Pères) and the Guibert family (Mas du Daumas Gassac).

In the red wines from Rémy, the cool tannins are fine-grained and perfectly matched to the extract and fruit. The wines are subtle, fine and far removed from the many “fruit bombs” of the region.

The white wines are aromatic and offer a real bouquet of flowers: gorse, mimosa, jasmine and orange, nuanced by herbs from the garrigues and mandarin zest. They often reminds you of white wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but with only 12.5% vol alcohol. The time-consuming, always hard manual work of biodynamic cultivation has fully paid off. Roc d'Anglade is not just a wine: it´s magic and emotions.

Just in case, you´re looking for the next big name in after Coche-Dury, Arnaud Ente or Comtes Lafon. Véronique Bonin and Nicolas Bernard are crafting an amazing armada of white Burgundies out of their terroirs in Meursault. The couple laid down strict rules: no yeast, no enzymes and no chaptalization and moderate use of sulfur. The aim of this requirement is to reproduce the different expressions of the terroir and the individual vintages as precisely as possible. After long maturation on the yeast in oak barrels, the bottling takes place without filtration or fining. Focused, straight, rich and full of minerality.

Visiting and tasting Domaine Coche-Dury. Guided by Raphaël Coche 🙏🙏🙏
These wines leave you with the impression that the great balance in each of them has been completely self-evident. At the first contact, when sniffing and at a first thoughtful sip, they act almost shy and unspectacular. But at least at the second sip they come along with an unbelievable power from the back. It's as if extract, acidity and minerality are concentrated on a pinhead!

The last tasting in the Priorat took place on a beautiful Sunday morning in the middle of the vineyards near Gratallops. Les Terrasses from Alvaro Palacios reminds me always as the big brother of Camins del Priorat. However, all the grapes grew on very old vines (average age: 40 years).
