Köln ist eine gemeinnützige Organisation, die ehrenamtlich seit 1995 Erfahrung in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit als privater Träger in Indien gesammelt hat. Zeitgleich wurde in Indien die Schwesterorganisation KIDS-Society gegründet. Die KIDS Society ist angesiedelt in Tirupur, einer wirtschaftlich florierenden Stadt, die zwischen Coimbatore und Erode im Bundesstaat Tamil Nadu gelegen ist. Tirupu

r hat sich seit 1985 als ein führendes Zentrum in der Bekleidungs- und Textilindustrie entwickelt. Ungelernte Arbeiter strömen mit ihren Familien nach Tirupur, um insbesondere für die europäische und amerikanische Textilwirtschaft Arbeit zu finden. Somit gibt es in dieser Region auch ca. 20.000 bis 25.000 Kinderarbeiter. Bedingt durch den ökonomischen Überlebensdruck sind die Kinder meist verpflichtet, unter zum Teil ausbeuterischen Bedingungen zum Lebensunterhalt der Familie beizutragen. Nahezu 70-80 Millionen Kinder gehen heute noch nicht in die Schule, da sie täglich für den Lebensunterhalt der gesamten Familie verantwortlich gemacht werden. Fehlende Bildungsreformen und die daraus resultierende Ausbeutung von Kindern haben in Indien die höchste Kinderarbeitsquote der Welt beschert. Die Tendenz ist immer noch steigend, obwohl das Problem bereits bekannt ist. Bildung und Weiterbildung sind die Arbeitsgebiete von KIDS e.V. die Migros-Kids-School. Eine privat geführte Schule für Kinder aus armen Familien, die die Kinder vom Kindergarten bis zum Schulabschluss ausbildet und betreut. Sie leistet damit einen entscheidenden Beitrag zur Bekämpfung der Kinderarbeit vor Ort.

[EN]: KIDS e.V. Cologne is a non-commercial organisation with experiences in development cooperation as private non-profit provider since 1995. The affiliated organisation KIDS-Society was founded sometime later in India. The KIDS Society is located in Tirupur, a city between Coimbatore and Erode in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, which is well known for its booming textile and apparel industry. Since 1985, Tirupur emerged to become a leading center of the global textile and apparel knit industry. Unskilled workers move to Tirupur with their families expecting to find work. Hence, around 20.000 to 25.000 child workers were employed there. Due to the high economic pressure on the whole family, the children are urged to contribute to the family income and work under exploiting conditions. Nearly 70-80 million children do not go to school yet, as they were held responsible for their families’ livelihood. Basic and further education are the main fields in the work of KIDS e.V. For this reason, the organisation supports and maintains the Migros-Kids-School, a privately financed and managed school for kids from poor families. Basic education and support from the kindergarden to high school graduation is given to the children. The school tries to make a contribution to the fight against child labour in India by creating a visionary alternative.

Die Lotus-Foundation, führte vor zwei Wochen in Tirupur ein freies Augen-Check-up-Camp für alle Kinder der Migros KIDS Schule durch.

Alle Kinder von der Tagesstätte bis zur zwölften Klasse und die Lehrer haben an den Augentests teilgenommen.

Kinder, die eine weitere, detaillierte Untersuchung benötigen, wurden gebeten, in das Krankenhaus in Tirupur zur weiteren Behandlung zu kommen.

In Tamil Nadu we celebrate "Pongal" Festival on January 14th every year. I celebrate four days in my home. In Pongal Festival mother will make many sweets. I will wear new dress. On this day I eat my favorite food "Pongal".

My name is Y. Fagil Methausha. I'm ten years old. I'm studying in VI in Migros KIDS Matriculation School in Tirupur. My father is M. Yuruff, marketing manager. My mother is B. Fathima Nachiyan, teacher. I have one sister. Her name is Y. Soniya and she is studying in X. If I get one lakh rupee, first of all I'll thank God, I will think how to use it in a proper way I think to satisfy all of my needs. But, it seems to be selfish. So, I think for a while. Finally, I decided. No, I determined and I started initiating some measures to take care and to protect my mother earth. So, I decided to buy thousands and thousands of saplings with the help of my friends and neighbors. Now, I satisfy myself by doing this valuable service, because it can conserve and protect many living species and the precious lives of people.

Representatives of the KIDS association visit the school in Tirupur regularly to get a picture of the school. They decide together with the teachers where money is needed to renovate the buildings or to improve the quality of education. On this picture Mr. Beuth congratulates the best students of their grade on their new certificates.

By now, the garden of the school is beautifully arranged and is an oasis for the kids in the hot months of summer, when the kids are grateful for the shade offered by the trees. Despite the difficult weather conditions to nourish the trees, the gardeners take a lot of trouble in maintaining the vivid green colour of the trees.

The renovation work is almost done: the painters oft the Migros KIDS School have finished the work in the classrooms which is why the children can study there untroubled. But in the premises of the school is the work never done, because the weather conditions like heat and heavy rain don’t go unnoticed.
