Zbirka Muzeja Grada Beograda.

The great goddess form Çatal höyük, 6000 BC, sitting on a throne flanked by two felines. She is later known as Matar Kubileya, Kubaba or Cybele. Found at Çatal höyük, 45 kilometers south of modern Konya, Turkey

Later images and iconography in funerary contexts, and the ubiquity of her Phrygian name Matar ("Mother"), suggest that she was a mediator between the "boundaries of the known and unknown": the civilized and the wild, the worlds of the living and the dead. Her association with hawks, lions, and the stone of the mountainous landscape of the Anatolian wilderness, seem to characterize her as mother of the land in its untrammeled natural state, with power to rule, moderate or soften its latent ferocity, and to control its potential threats to a settled, civilized life.

🏺A gold anthropomorphic goddess figurine discovered in a tell near Kushla dere (Kosharitsa), Nessebar Municipality, Bulgaria. Dated to the late Chalcolithic, 4500-4000 BC.

📖 The gold anthropomorphic figurine is among the most intriguing finds from the dawn of gold metallurgy. The image represents a schematic female figure. The eyes are marked by indentations, the arms are bent at the elbows along the body, and the legs are separated in their lower part. Like similar bone and marble figurines, it depicts a stylized representation of the Mother Goddess. It was probably hung or sewn on as an amulet through the holes pierced at the folded arms. The artefact belongs to the period of appearance and development of the earliest gold metallurgy in the world, which became widely known after the discovery and study of the Varna Chalcolithic necropolis.

Part of the exhibition of the National Archaeological Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Recipient of the ceramic altar decorated with linear ornaments, proto-Starčevo culture, Neolithic period – the New Stone Age, around 6200-5900 years BC, found in Međureč near Jagodina, central Serbia.
Collection of Museum in Jagodina.
Altars were most likely used as cult objects related to sacrificial rituals in the Neolithic cultures from the territory of present-day Serbia. They vary in size and shape and have shallow recipient in which most probably some precious liquid was poured or it was used for placing other types of sacrifices.
