Lorenzo Pitirra is in town this week all the way from Tuscany, Italy! In honour of his visit, we’d like to highlight one of our favorite wines from the Il Palazzo portfolio 🇮🇹

Chianti Riserva from Il Palazzo is a wonderful blend of sangiovese and canaiolo. This wine is clear, lively and full of young fruit – currant, cassis, sour cherry syrup, peach skin. You also get some notes of rhubarb root, cinchona and liquorice. Delicate tannin, with balanced acidity and alcohol content. Elegant wine for long aging.

The Il Palazzo estate dates back to Roman times – but its current history stems from the 1940s when the Banelli family bought the estate. Today the estate produces authentic yet modern-facing Tuscan wines. The range includes reds from indigenous and international varieties, vibrant whites, rosato and the venerable Vin Santo sweet wine.

On the nose, this wine displays typical dark cherry and blueberry, with hints of chocolate, graphite, and spice. A touch of French oak.

On the palate, it's medium bodied with layers of juicy red cherry, a touch of wood smoke and clove, and savoury tannins.

This Red Blend by Thelema will surprise you with its inviting aromas of juicy black fruit, mulberries, plums, hints of warm spice and a long delicious finish. This wine is a blend of 41% Shiraz, 36% Petit Verdot & 23% Grenache, and it spent 18 months in the barrel. The high altitude and the rich red soils of the winery are ideal for premium quality wine grape production. In the words of their founder Gyles Webb: “As we believe grape quality is the single most important factor in serious winemaking, our policy is one of minimum interference, allowing the wines to be a true expression of each vineyard.”

Winter time calls for hearty meals like roast lamb, stuffed mushrooms, and spicy tomato sauce on pasta. A wine that would pair amazing with hearty, savoury dishes like that is a 2022 Riporta Primitivo from Puglia, Italy.

The wine is made by the Fantini group, who specializes in crafting wines from the southern wine regions of Italy. Their Primitivo is sourced from vineyards east of Taranto, on red clay soils. The climate is warm, mitigated by the cool breezes from the Ionian sea. The variety Primitivo derives its name from the latin “Primitavus” which means “early ripening”.

The wine is aged for 5 months in French and American Barriques. It possessed a signature intense ruby red colour and complex bouquet of red fruits. The wine is full bodied, soft, with generous tannins. Ready to drink now. $22.99

Hello Wine Lovers! 🍷 The Juice Asylum is a project started in 2016 and is all things quirky. The focus of the wines is terroir and imagination (natural element is encouraged rather than denied and put into a ‘facility’ an Asylum, if you will). 🍷You might have tried The Juice Asylum a fun and fresh summer red made with Biodynamic wine making using Sangiovese and Merlot! 🍷But as we see the change in colour of our trees, we have another amazing wine to introduce from Il Terzo Grado, The Maggie May: 🍷The risky label is a reference to the traditional Liverpool folk song, made famous by the Beatles. The wine inside is a blend of Sangiovese, Syrah, Colorino, and Chardonnay. With a full rich flavours and savoury edges this wine is absolutely perfect on its own or with a warm home-made stew! It also goes well with listening to some throwback albums and hanging with friends.
