Today's Friday tasting is of the spirited variety, with liqueurs and a gin from Wayward Distillery in Vancouver Island's Comox Valley!

We'll have their Krupnik spiced honey liqueur (which tastes of Christmas in a glass) as well as their Bee Champion Gin (from which they donate a portion of the sales to causes that support bees) and Raspberry Gin Liqueur on offer.

Only from 3 to 6 PM though, 'cause you can definitely have too much of a good thing. 😉

A new bitter has hit the scene, care of Esquimalt - Vermouth & Apéritifs!

Made as an ode to the classic Italian Red Bitter (think Campari, Luxardo Bitter Rosso, Select Aperitivo, and their ilk), Esquimalt Bitter Red is made with 25+ botanicals, all working in perfect harmony to bring your drink a healthy dose of eye-widening bitterness.

Use it in any cocktail calling for a red bitter (yes, even a Negroni, though Gruppo Campari may look down their noses at you for doing so), or simply add soda water for a refreshingly bitter long drink to help beat the summer heat.

This label features our absolute favourite rendition of the classic Esquimalt seagull so far, so we hope you’ll join us in trying to convince the fine Esquimalt proprietors in expediting any merchandise carrying his likeness posthaste!

For your viewing pleasure, here's a lovely 30 year old Blended Grain Scotch Whisky bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company in the U.K.

They're known for buying barrels of whisky from all over the world, maturing them, bottling them, and selling them on as unique offerings.

This one is sweet, spiced, round, and ever-so-easy-going. A crowd pleaser to be sure, as who's going to complain about 30-year-old whisky? 🥃

Join us today from 3 through 6 PM for your chance to try an array of gins from Odd Society Spirits in East Vancouver!

We've got their Wallflower Gin—replete with complex florals and herbal flavours, but balanced by classic citrus and juniper—as well as a Strawberry-infused version of Wallflower (which is way strawberry!) and their Salal Gin, a take on the classic Sloe Gin but with much-needed acidity from salal berries.

Happy Long Weekend Friday! To celebrate we've got an in-store tasting (of course) running from 3 through 6 PM, where you'll have the opportunity to try Cabernet Franc two ways from Nichol Vineyard and Lock & Worth Winery.

We'll be closed on July 1st—to allow our staff a much needed long weekend of their own—so if you pop by to try the wines tonight we heartily recommend stocking up on supplies for your long weekend plans.

We host in-store tastings on Fridays—y'all have the idea by now—but today's is a special one!

We've got not only Mark Wachtin from Storied Wines & Spirits s in house from 4 - 6 pouring samples from Ursa Major Estate Winery and Bella Wines, but several of the winemakers and owners from Bella and Ursa Major will be on site to talk about the wines from their perspective!

There'll be some back vintage Bella Chardonnay available, as well as the latest releases from Ursa Major.

That said, winemakers are rather busy folks, so there's no guarantee they'll be around past the first hour. The early bird gets to meet the winemaker, after all. 😅

Producer Spotlight: Cesare Bussolo

Cesare Bussolo is known for his work with Roberto Voerzio in Barolo, where he’s been responsible for vintage after vintage of cult-tier Barolos, garnering top dollar and acclaim from aficionados.

He also makes wines under his own label in limited quantities, and only from free-run juice. These releases are considered benchmark wines for the region of La Morra, and are sought after for their elegance, finesse, and purity of fruit.

Quantities on these wines are extremely limited, and they’re available in-store first-come, first-served.

It’s Friday, and we don’t know about you, but tasting some local wine sounds like a nice way to ring in the weekend.

We’ve got Nadia MacLean (of Esquimalt fame!) in from 3 through 6 PM in-store today pouring samples from Neighbourly Wine Co. in Saanichton, including their Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer.

Nadia is their biggest fan, easily, so she’ll happily chat about what they’ve got going on while she plies you with some Neighbourly ministrations.

A magical thing happens when you take single malt whisky and age it in casks that once held red wine—it takes on a lovely burnished copper hue in the glass, but more importantly the influence the wine had on the cask is imparted upon the whisky, resulting in an additional layer of fruit and spice in the glass.

But what happens when the wine that was in the cask is a bold and iconic Super Tuscan from Bolgheri? It turns the flavour dial up to 11.

Enter GlenAllachie Grattamacco Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky - it’s hip, it’s now, it’s wow, and how!

GlenAllachie is fruity and honeyed by default, but the 2 years spent in ex-Grattamacco casks has added additional intensity with notes of earthy spice, sandalwood, raspberry, currants, and a distinct piquant flavour from the use of French oak barriques.

We’ll have their Estate Riesling and Mount Richmond Pinot Noir open, as well as a Pinot Noir from Pike Road at a more everyday price point.

Oregon Wine Month ain’t over ’til it’s over, and today we’ve got another tasting featuring wines from Ken Wright Cellars!

Join Victoria’s own Jami Wood today from 3 through 6 PM as she pours samples of Ken Wright Cellars’ Willamette Pinot Noir as well as some other goodies!

Having her visit our store is a rare privilege, so we’re excited to see her and hope you will be too!

New to our vermouth selection are additions from Mancino Vermouth - their Vermouth Secco and Rosso Amaranto, specifically.

We’ve had bartenders with international experience asking for them for years, and we’ve finally been able to source some within BC!

We tasted the vermouths recently and we were all blown away—the Vermouth Secco is pure martini magic, grassy, dry, herbal, citrus-y with a lasting bitterness on the finish, and so wonderfully refreshing.

The Rosso Amaranto is a lot like if rosso vermouth and cherry cola were joined at the hip, resulting in a wonderfully smooth and sweet palate with a gorgeously bitter finish. It makes what at least one local British bartender would contend is the perfect Negroni.

Join us today from 4 through 6 PM for your chance to try some of the recent releases from Holocene Distilling Project in Cobble Hill!

Proprietors (and distillers!) Aisling and Dorian put a lot of effort into making spirits in an eco-conscious way, and their latest Sweet Tease is the best example of this - cascara and citrus rind which were destined for a compost bin were used in its creation, and it just goes to show you how much flavour can be found in would-be refuse.

We'll have samples of their latest Honey and Nettle Gin, their Creme Violette, and the aforementioned Sweet Tease on offer, so please do come by and give them a try!

We had Gary from Cherry Point Estate Wines in a couple of months ago to pour samples of their lineup, and it was so well-received we decided to do another tasting for those who missed out last time, or may just want a refresher.

Back in May of 2023, we were invited out to @sheringhamdistillery ‘s barrel house in Sooke to taste through a few whiskies in residence, with our ultimate hope (and goal) being the chance to buy and bottle a barrel of our own. We spent the day with Master Distiller Jason MacIssac as we perused the barrels, drew samples, and tried to decide amongst ourselves which one reigned supreme, and it ended up being a most memorable trip and occasion. We were sworn to secrecy, as nothing had been set in stone and no offer to buy the barrel had been made. Everything was in the margins at this point, but luckily Alayne reached out to us this year to confirm we could, in fact, buy and bottle the barrel we’d chosen the year prior. So this past week we rushed out to Sheringham Distillery in Langford to revisit the barrel with Jason and his team, dump and filter it, and bottle it with a label stating proudly that it was chosen by Vintage Spirits. That barrel (in bottles, and at cask strength no less!) is now available to purchase in-store, online at vintagespirits.ca, and to try at @thepalmsvictoria while supplies last. Cheers to Jason & Alayne, and everyone at Sheringham for making this dream come true. 🥃
