Oak Bay's own Lime Tree Imports is dedicated to importing small batch, award-winning beers from Belgium into the BC market. Terrest, DeHoave and Schelde breweries are all small, family owned operations whose beers win awards at international competitions. Cork & Barrel is proud to carry these fabulous small-batch beers. And the president of Lime Tree Imports, Lena Dowling, will be sampling the beers this afternoon between 2 and 6. Won't you join us?

April is BC Wine Month and we are kicking it off with a tasting from a new Okanagan producer, Birch Block is a Pinot Noir specialist in the Kaleden area and we're featuring four products from Birch Block this afternoon. We have their Pinot Noir Rose and their estate Pinot Noir open, as well as two canned products, their pink piquette, a refreshing bubbly apero, and their Endless Summer Rose, both perfect for the beach.

Red Bank Whiskey is a new entry on the Canadian whiskey scene. A project fronted by actor Kiefer Sutherland and three of his Nova Scotia buddies, this dram features a blend of wheat, corn and rye. It won a Gold Medal at the 2024 San Francisco Spirits Competition. It's on sale for $45.99 and we're sampling it today from 2 to 6. Maybe it's your new favourite! Cheers!

We are tasting local again today!
CedarCreek Estate Winery is one of the original eight estate wineries in British Columbia. For 37 years it has been the standard of quality and reliability for Okanagan VQA Wine. In 2017 it was purchased by iconic Okanagan winery owner Anthony von Mandl of Mission Hill Family Estate Winery. He's refurbished the winery with state of the art equipment, and the result has been an even greater focus on quality. This afternoon we are sampling two wines from CedarCreek Estate Winery--Pinot Gris and Cabernet/Merlot. In addition we have Mission Hill Family Estate Winery's Reserve Meritage open, as well as Bearface Canadian Whisky. All are on sale and available to taste today between 2 and 6. Did you know that Victoria's own Spinnakers Brewpub was one of the first craft breweries in Canada? It opened in 1984, just two years after Troller's opened in Horseshoe Bay, and firmly establishing Victoria as one of the nerve centres of craft beer in Canada. For over 40 years they've been an innovator and a stalwart in an industry that has grown up around them. Quinn from Spinnakers Brewpub will be pouring this afternoon at The Cork, featuring their West Coast Pilsner and their Irish Stout. He'll also have one of their new line of ciders open for sampling. Come in and discover why Spinnakers Brewpub has been a leader in the craft beer industry for over 4 decades. Cheers!

What says spring better than Oak Bay Flower Shop Ltd. flowers and fresh wines from Italy! Today we're tasting two lovely wines from the Gloria Winery from Sicily. Grillo is a white varietal that is like the very popular Italian Pinot Grigio. Frappato is a fresh and fruity red varietal that lends itself to making fresh, lively rose. Both are open for tasting today (Saturday) and on sale at Cork & Barrel, along with that Italian favorite, Prosecco. Viva La Primavera!

Certified Local is the trademark of the Okanagan's Haywire Winery. Organic grapes made gently into fine wines that are an expression of their central Okanagan terroir. Wading into the treacherous world of BC wineries, Domaine Artema opened on the Black Sage Bench featuring French varietals with a decidedly French winemaking style. They specialize in Beaujolais wines--Gamay and Chardonnay. But today Paul Watkins of Seacove Wines is sampling two other wines: Domaine Artema Rouge blend, a complex and deep blend of Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot and several smaller portions of other red varietals, as well as their Provence-style rose. Both are crafted to express the best of the Okanagan terroir. C'mon in between 2 and 6 and find your new favourite.

Got Burrowing Owl? We do! The Okanagan winery with highly sought-after wines sold a bunch of their library wines, and we stocked up! Older vintages back to 2013 of their Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet , Cabernet , Syrah and Malbec available while they last. Better move though as they won’t last.

The great American oenologist, Andre Tchelistcheff, once wrote: “God made Cabernet but the devil made Pinot Noir.” The shape-shifting wine takes many forms around the world.
