Exciting things happening on the cider front and none more adventurous than Twin Islands Cider from Pender Island. They are exploring the boundary between cider and wine, blending the two and using grape must from Sea Star Vineyards on Pender to condition the cider. Borrowing from the natural wine movement, Twin Islands are making some intriguing ciders: natural fermentation, non-filtering, extended skin contact. They will be sampling their products today at Cork and Barrel between 3 and 6.
One of the fun things about running a liquor store is learning about new products. Including sake! There is amazing variety of sakes from Japan. Nozomi is pouring three sakes in store this afternoon from 2 to 6.
We are tasting local today. Sage Hayward is the new iteration of the winery on Saturna Island. We are pouring their Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Stag’s Hollow is an Okanagan veteran and one of the only valley producers of Albariño! We have it open as well as their Simply Noir, a barbecue-loving red blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir and Dolcetto. Cmon in and discover your new favourite. Today from 2 to 6.

Red Bank Whiskey was born on Nova Scotia’s rocky shores, the creation of Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland. It’s billed as a unique expression of Canada’s coastal terroir. Well it must almost be gin season, right? We are anticipating the commencement of our favourite season with two new, unique products. Christian Drouhin has been making Calvados at their Normandie distillery for over half a century. But did you know they also make gin? We have two of them—Le Gin is crafted from distilled cider, and Le Gin Pira is made with distilled pear cider. It will definitely put a different flavour in your martini.
