Avoid the crowds and un-plowed streets and warm up with a good book and a glass of mulled wine.

Any dry red wine will do but preferably one that is medium-bodied and focusses on red fruit flavours and baking spices. We suggest a bottle of Frontonio Microcosmico Garnacha from Valdejalon, Spainfeatured in December's Friends' Night In package. This wine is now sold out Combine the whole bottle with apple cider, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, star anise, and some orange juice and zest for a drink that will ward off the winter blues. Don't forget a (generous) splash of port or brandy!

Right now in Portugal (and all across the Northern Hemisphere) grapevines are slowly being lulled to sleep – ‘tis the season for dormancy. Harvest is complete, leaves change from bright greens to rich yellows, and growers anticipate winter pruning. Many of us are starting our own versions of hibernation – scarves, comfort food, and cozy red wine. The Taleiga Tinto from the Dao region from this month’s Date Night package is a fitting pairing for the winter season.

What’s the deal with amphorae??🤷🏻‍♀️
Clay vessels have been used to ferment, age, and even transport wine since ancient times - going back 8,000 years to what is now modern-day Georgia.
They offer unique interactive properties with wine and are the middle ground between steel and oak; They are porous and allow for some oxygen but are a neutral material that won’t impart additional flavours to the wine.
Same same but different:
~Amphorae (or Talhas in Portugal) - skinny pots with a conical bottom
~Tinaja - Spanish vessel that tapers at both the top and bottom, like an egg
~ Dolium (or Georgian Qvevri) - wide-open top and a tapered, flat bottom.
The Catena Zapata ‘La Marchigiana’ Malbec featured as this month’s Exclusive Offier is fermented and aged in amphorae. This is a vibrant and complex wine with dark fruit and a fresh finish.

This mix, combined with the Maritime climate of daytime sun and ocean breeze creates wines with intense acidity and a distinct herbaceous quality. The name means “the enemy” and depicts the struggle we wage within ourselves. Grapes come from some of the oldest vineyard sites in Argentina’s famous Uco Valley 🇦🇷

Arboleda, which means a grove of trees, is a tribute to the more than 1,450 hectares (3,583 acres) of native forest that surround its sustainably managed vineyards 🌲🌲🌲

This vineyard commonly sees morning fog, a cool breeze and a fairly damp climate. The wine is fermented in stainless steel, and bottled after 5 months. On the nose, notes of grapefruit and green pepper 😆
