Pair of Georgian Silver Sugar Nips C.1725 John Gray (Ref: Grimwade P.100 No 1319.) These early sugar nippers with plain ring finger grips, straight baluster arms and engraved central box hinge. Marked on nipper with lion passant and IG, the outside with possibly gothic P. Length: 4.25 inches. Item Weight: 19.06 grams.

The early form chamberstick on gadroon border base, broad drip pan with flat teardrop handle. Hallmarked with good clear full Britannia marks, nozzle also with Britannia standard mark. Base with scratch weight 6:7 and owners initials H*C engraved. length 7 inches. Height: 1/78 inches. Weight :6.3 oz. Condition: Good clear hallmarks. Good colour and patina. Early examples of Silver chambersticks are now very hard to find. They were used for lighting the way to bed and because of the movement created when carried about, they had a large drip pan to catch the wax. The earliest examples have straight handles (first flat, then tubular) and then by a ring or flying handle in the first part of the 18th century.

Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hube know as Torun, was born 1927 in Malmo, Sweden. Condition: very good.
Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hube know as Torun, was born 1927 in Malmo, Sweden. Torun was the first woman silversmith in the world to gain international recognition. She studied at Konstfack, the School of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, beginning in 1945 while pregnant with her first child, Pia. Eventually she married the child’s father, a Danish journalism student. In 1948, Torun spent the summer in Paris meeting Picasso, Braque, Matisse, and the other great artists of the day. She married a French architect and lived in Stockholm until 1956 having a second child, a son, Claude. As early as 1952, Torun exhibited her jewelry, made both in Stockholm and France (and bearing hallmarks from each country) in Paris. In 1956 she moved to France with her third husband, Walter Coleman. She designed jewelry for among others, Billie Holiday which Holiday wore when she performed. The couple moved to Biot in the south of France. Torun produced many pieces during this period when young Swedish silversmiths would come to work in her studio, introducing her to new techniques. Torun renewed her acquaintance with Picasso who lived in the area and an exhibition of Torun jewelry was held at the Picasso Museum in Antibes from 1958 to 1960. On November 5, 1992, Torun was awarded the Prince Eugen medal by King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden. bestowed for outstanding artistic achievement.

Queen Anne silver taperstick London 1704 Richard Syngin (Syng). The taperstick of plain early design with knopped stem and moulded circular base. Britannia standard silver.  Weight 106 grams, 3.40 troy ounces. Height 10.7cm. Base diameter 7.0cm. Marks. Stamped underneath with a full set of clear English Britannia silver hallmarks. Literature. Silver tapersticks, averaging about 4- 5 inches high, are miniature table candlesticks used to hold a wax taper. Tapersticks would typically be found on a desk as they were not used for lighting; the melted sticks of wax were used for sealing letters, to give a flame for to***co pipes or to light large candles. They are rarer than candlesticks and very few existed prior to the Queen Anne period. They usually appear in singles and pairs of tapersticks and are highly sought after.
Condition: Very slightly out of round base (could easily be aligned but have left as not of any real concern, stands flat and not straight). Good clear hallmarks to underside of base. Good colour and patina. Reflections purely from photography only. Note: Tapersticks were not made until the early 18th century. This is a very early example and unusual circular form for a taperstick.
