Our pizza ovens are a seasonal delight, we invite you to come make the most of it. Sadly, as fall approaches it means that we’ll have to put the pizza oven to bed, so come get it while it lasts. Let us treat you to an elevated, yet unpretentious, dining experience.

On the menu this weekend we’re offering up chocolate hazelnut tarts with frangelico mascarpone cream and fresh berries. Crispy lamb shoulder pierogies with white pumpkin and snowing tomato salad as well as salmon lox with chanterelles, pickle medley and bagel croutons. Yum!

Oh! And pizza, of course! We’re offering pizza between 11-5 this week. Sadly, as fall approaches it means that we’ll have to put the pizza oven to bed, so come get it while it lasts!

Fear not though, we have some secret plans in the works to expand and improve our pizza offerings for the coming years. Stay tuned!

As we reflect on this summer season, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to you all, our staff, our patrons and everyone in between. It’s been a summer of change, with our renovation ongoing, a summer of accolades, a summer of laughter and community, of family and of course, of delicious wines. You are all so pivotal in our journey, crafting Cowichan's coastal legacy wouldn’t be possible without all of you.

We had such a great time hosting you all for our last Dim Sum Pop Up event that we decided to do it again! Join us Saturday September 14th through Sunday September 15th, 11am-5pm, for our “Round 2” Dim Sum Pop-Up!

We are thrilled to be welcoming back Sommelier and Chef Van Doren Chan from Dumpling in a Box, who has curated a menu of Cantonese Dim Sum classics and modern twists to excite the palate and bring some of Vancouver's best Dim Sum to the Cowichan Valley.

Included in each guest booking is a classic meat or veggie dumpling steamer basket, and a glass of your favourite Unsworth wine. (Additional food add-ons available in person including prawn spring rolls and BBQ pork puff pastry. No gluten-free options available.)

Have you dined at The Restaurant at Unsworth Vineyards this summer? If so, you no doubt noticed the verticals of cellared Unsworth wines that have been added. By flipping through our wine list, you will find oodles of fun and compelling information about our region, vineyards, and now vintage characteristics of the wines we are featuring throughout our list.

This week we've added a very special wine to our list. Due to dwindling volumes of 2018 Cuvée de l’île, we decided to offer Henriot Champagne by the glass. A balanced blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a touch of Pinot Meunier, with a harmonious 7g/l dosage, Henriot is a fabulous example of the quality we are expecting with the growth of our traditional method Cuvée de l’île.

Dry with a round mouthfeel and ripe orchard fruit aromas, the Auxerrois style of wine is enjoying a resurgence of popularity in BC, and we couldn't agree more.

Ripe melon and windfall yellow apples fill the bouquet on the nose. On the palate this wine is dry with medium body supported by soft acidity and notes of cantaloupe, lilies and yellow apple. A perfect, summery drink that pairs well with oily fish like mackerel, and smoked sturgeon. If you like Chèvre or Fontina, you are in luck with this choice!

Together with our wonderfully hardworking staff, we hosted a 3-day immersive pop up wherein Van Doren curated a menu of Cantonese Dim Sum classics and modern twists to excite the palate and bring some of Vancouver's best Dim Sum to the Cowichan Valley.

[A nod to Tim Turyk]

We don't discuss Tim Turyk with enough frequency. If you're not familiar with our origin story, it's one in which Tim, having grown up watching Cowichan Valley’s homespun wine and food culture evolve, heard about a small vineyard and winery for sale, and after 40+ years working in BC’s fishing industry, took one look at the spectacular property and early 1900s farmhouse, and knew he’d found something special.

The story goes on, of course, and since that fateful purchase of what would become the Unsworth Vineyards property in 2009, Tim continues to learn by trial and error (yes there have been a few) what it takes to build a first class winery and restaurant in British Columbia.

Tim's trust in the Unsworth team, quiet demeanour, and lead by example management style, are sources of inspiration to those fortunate enough to work alongside him. Since June of 2020, when Tim sold the winery to members of a highly respected global wine family, he hasn't missed a beat at Unsworth.

We can all relax and breathe a sigh of relief as Tim will maintain his current position as role model, and owner emeritus indefinitely. With all the excitement surrounding Unsworth and Cowichan wine, why would anyone want to leave?

On the menu this weekend, you can expect to see all kinds of delicious, locally sourced and inspired menu items.
But also! Pizza! Lots of delicious, fresh off the stone pizza, perfect for a summer night out on our terrace.

Might we suggest the Spicy Sausage Pizza, with house made sausage, gorgonzola, calabrian chili, garlic confit and a marzano tomato sauce. Maybe you're more of a Pepperoni Pizza guy? Or a Lemon & Prawn Pizza person, made with selva prawns, lemon preserve, pesto, roasted peppers and arugula?! The list goes on... And it's all delicious.

The accolades keep on comin’! This time we’re honored to announce that our 2022 Cowichan Valley Pinot Noir was recently awarded Gold, with 93 Points, by Wine Align. With only 3 other Canadian 2022 Pinot Noirs winning gold, this feels incredibly special.

After a lengthy, thoughtful, and meticulous design process, Unsworth is proud to announce new additions to our winery.

The Cowichan Valley is amongst the best wine growing regions in Canada. To help express and share the Cowichan Valley's unique terroir we are updating our winery and building a phenomenal new Tasting Room. Winery additions include, dedicated red and white barrel halls and a bottling area. The relaxed and spacious new tasting room, will allow for a wider breadth of wine experiences  – always, in our unpretentious manner.

Our current Tasting Room and Restaurant will remain open during the renovations and we hope you will join us in our eager anticipation!

[Award Winning Wines]

Today we raise our glasses to our ever talented and devoted winemaker, Dan Wright! 🥂

We are proud to announce that our 2021 Cowichan Valley Pinot Noir did exceptionally well, winning gold and scoring 95 points at the 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards - with over 18,000 wines entered, this is the largest wine competition in the world. Not only was this the highest ranked Canadian Pinot Noir, it was the only Canadian Pinot Noir to win gold.

”Glistening with bright red cherries and berries with a zip of black pepper which flows alongside the zingy cranberry acidity and taut mineral texture. Deliciously true to type.”

Sadly, the tasting room is now sold out of the 2021 Cowichan Valley Pinot Noir, but it has been recently spotted on shelves at Cascadia Quadra, Cascadia Langford, Liquor Plus Royal Oak, Everything Wine, Co-Op liquor stores, Black Swan, and The Cobblestone liquor stores. Happy foraging!
