Attention local businesses and residents!

There’s a growing scam targeting our community, and we need your vigilance to prevent further fraud.

Here’s how the scam works:

1. Scammers call local businesses to place orders over the phone, often using persuasive tactics to convince staff to accept the order.
2. The scammer provides a credit card number for payment, which appears to be legitimate.
3. A third party, often unaware of the scam, arrives at the business to pick up the ordered merchandise.

*THE CREDIT CARDS USED ARE STOLEN, AND THE ORDERS ARE FRAUDULENT!*

To protect your business and our community, please be cautious when receiving phone orders. Here are some steps to take:

Verify the customer’s identity and contact information.
Confirm the order and payment details carefully.
Check the credit card number with the issuing bank or use a secure payment processing system.
Be wary of urgent or high-pressure requests.
Consider requiring in-person payment or using a secure online payment system.

If you suspect a scam, do not fulfill the order. Instead:

Contact your local authorities and report the incident.
Inform your bank or payment processing company.
Warn other local businesses about the potential scam.
