ICON: COMTE GEORGES DE VOGÜÉ

It’s rare that I’m lost for words when writing tasting notes. Having tasted over 20,000 wines in the past 2 years, Vogüés vielles vignes Musigny sits clearly at the top, in a league of its own as the best Burgundy I’ve tasted, and perhaps the most indescribable.

The domaine dates back to 1450a.d., and is now headed by its 20th generation, Claire de Causans and Marie Ladoucette.

Domaine de Vogüé continues to solidify its legacy as one of the most sought after producers in Burgundy, with their philosophy being that they are simply caretakers of the vines, leaving the rest up to nature.

We were lucky enough to get 6 of the rumoured 24 bottles to enter the country.

ICON: FRANÇOIS RAVENEAU CHABLIS

To say we’re excited to have Raveneau’s wines back in the shop would be an understatement. Raveneau boasts the undisputed status as king of Chablis and all our tastings over the years have only come to confirm this. They’re stunning expressions of place.

Along with Dauvissat, Raveneau was the first to bring Côte d’Or winemaking techniques to Chablis - introducing barrel fermentation and extensive lees ageing to the appellation, and creating for rich, textural wines.

Since François’ passing in 2000, the domaine is in the ever capable hands of Jean-Marie and Bernard Raveneau who draws on just 1.5ha and 0.35ha in the premier cru vineyards of Butteaux and Chapelot respectively.

Incredibly rare, tiny quantities available.

Join us and Eloquesta’s winemaker Stuart Olsen from 5-7pm today as we pour some of his more experimental wines. Stuart’s past life was a science teacher and it’s clearly had an effect on his approach to wine making.

Cotto Chardonnay
This is what you get when you leave a barrel of Chardonnay out in the Mudgee sun for 3 years. It shows very cool oxidative Madeira qualities, with plenty of stone fruit and cashews on the finish.

Winter Harvest Shiraz
It’s amarone-esque but with some very pretty olive tapenade and violets on the nose. This was one of the more exciting wines we’ve recently come across and tonight is the first time this wine will be shown in Australia!
