We're releasing a couple more super limited wines this week! The Cirillo Estate Malbec 2023 & Mataro 2022, both have a total production of less than a pallet and have traditionally not been seen outside of cellar door (except for the squeaky wheel in WA getting it!). Lets start with Mataro - this bush vine vineyard was planted from cuttings from nine rogue Mataro vines found in the 1848 Grenache vineyard. This makes them likely the oldest in the world (yet not enough to be classed as a vineyard) - predating the Hewitson Old Garden vineyard by half a decade. Fruit from these old vines as well as the propagated bush vine vineyard get Marco's trademark winemaking - gentle extraction, basket pressed to old oak, slow maturation. It's one of those wines that truly speaks of both the terroir and the winemaker..... The Malbec is back for the first time since the 2019 vintage - now coming off Marco's own plantings. Its the boldest wine in the Cirillo stable, yet still showing restraint in comparison to the traditional extracted and tannic style. It's bright, super lifted, and crunchy. Blue and black fruits and spices with the palate showing freshness and drive.... We've negotiated 13 doz of each for WA (unless the wheel squeaks even louder) so they won't be around for long!
