On Thursday, 25th March 2004, the Glengyle Distillery was re-opened, 79 years after the original distillery closed its doors in 1925.
Although the Glengyle Distillery buildings were purchased in the year 2000, around 4 years were spent re-building the distillery and installing the equipment in order to begin production.
This project was approved by Mr Hedley Wright, the then Chairman of J & A Mitchell and Company Ltd. with Mr Frank McHardy, our Director of Production at that time, involved with the design and installation of all distillery equipment.
We're looking forward to the next 20 years of excellent whisky.

Sadly saying goodbye to a titan of the whisky industry today.
Mr Wright led the J&A Mitchell company through rough seas and calm, commanded enormous respect in his field but most of all, was loved by his staff and fellow residents of the Wee Toon.
It is with much sadness that J&A Mitchell & Co Ltd announces the passing of its long-standing chairman Mr Hedley G Wright, who died peacefully on Saturday 5th August at the age of 92 after a short illness.
Mr Wright was chairman of J&A Mitchell for over 60 years and steered the company through both good and hard times with steadfast dedication to maintaining the quality and traditions that Springbank and Glengyle Distilleries, and William Cadenhead Ltd, are famous for.
There will be no change in the structure or day to day running of the company following Mr Wrightβs passing as the necessary arrangements were put in place a number of years ago.
Kilchoman Distillery does it again - the trophy cabinet is going to need some extra shelves! Gold, Gold, Gold and Double Gold at some of the world's most respected Spirits competions. π₯π₯
It's World Whisky Day, and we're proud to announce the first, historic dram from our partners at The Isle of Harris Distillery will be launched in Harris on 22nd September 2023 and across the world from October 2023 onwards.
The Hearach Single Malt Whisky is woven from People and Place, with every drop made by Harris hands here in our elemental island.
