Hailing from Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, this brewery was born from an agricultural background, and after adding hops to their portfolio in 2016 they decided to build a Space-themed brewery, inspired in the beers of the West Coast of the US.

Finally in 2017, Uchu Brewing was born! ✨

“We wanted to experience the overwhelming flavour and abundance of the wide variety of beer that is hard to find in Japan, so we decided to open a craft beer pub and create a community”.

Their head brewer and co-founder Masahiro Kusunose (aka The Captain) has been travelling around the US, visiting breweries like Trillium, Tree House, Hill Farmstead, and Lawson’s Finest Liquids and also collaborating with breweries such as Other Half, Green Cheek, and Humble Sea. Their expertise really shows in every beer they make, so we couldn’t wait to get our hands on some freshly imported kegs! (all the hoppy beers are 2025 releases) 🍻
japan is set to open their first taproom in Tokyo this April, so we will be joining their celebrations all the way from Melbourne!

For this month's “𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵” we've gone with a subtle and underrated, yet absolutely delicious beer style from a great brewery: 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐊𝐨𝐥𝐬𝐜𝐡 by King River Brewing 🌄

King River's flagship beer, that doesn't hide behind "Draught" as a name or is mis-called "Lager" - It's a freaking KÖLSCH! A celebration of what this brewery does best: nailing European beer styles and celebrating the tradition of beer. And boy what a phenomenal style this is!

A beer style originally from Cologne (Germany) that is perfect for any occasion: "A German Golden Ale with a light body and straw colour. Delicate hop character matches the elegant pale malts for a balanced ale that can quench a thirst and matches well with lighter foods. Our King Valley Kolsch showcases the beauty of our region with crisp characters from our super fresh water obvious with your very first taste. We call this beer the Elbow Bender as it's so easy to come back for another sip" 😍

Nathan, King River's Head Brewer, says he could talk about Kölsch for about 4 hours and we absolutely believe him (honestly, don't challenge him). He has always spoken passionately about the way he makes his beer, and both the thought and the long and delicate process behind it: "It's really hard to make an amazing Kölsch".

A beer style that's all about the passion for provenance and drinkability: "It's a little bit sweet, it's dry, it's easy drinking, it's beautiful" ✨

Thanks to our friends from Oishii World, we are hosting a Tap Showcase of the great .japan from Hokuto, Japan!

Known for their space-inspired beers brewed in the natural surroundings of the Yatsugatake Mountains, this brewery has caught the eye of beer drinkers acrosss both Japan and the world! From their mega-fruited sours to their hop-loaded IPAs, Uchu is (currently) the second highest rated brewery in the whole country. We’ll be tapping an exciting selection of different beers by , including lupuling-heavy beers, smoothie sours and a pastry stout!

Not to be outdone by the taplist, our bottleshop & online store will be stacked with a selection of tinnies from Uchu! 🎏

And to make this event extra “oishii”, we’ll have some Japanese inspired food specials from our kitchen (our chef is very excited about this) 🍗
