Four really wonderful new wines from Anna and Kyatt at .

These are mix of home vineyard fruit in Mt Gambier and also biodynamic fruit from Cape Jaffa and are all thrilling in precision and expressiveness.

There's a couple of new styles for the domaine here - a phenolic semillon and a very, very high quality direct press and crystalline pinot gris.

Kyatt delivered these earlier today and straight in to the fridge they went!

We're really excited about this.

We tasted a tank sample of the 2024 Moon Marsanne back in August and are thrilled to let you know it's now in stock and will also be by the glass in the coming days.

From the highly regarded and certified Biodynamic Moon Vineyard on the banks of the Goulbourn River in Nagambie, this is simply an excellent Victorian white wine.

Full of rich phenolic matter and restrained, varietal fruit character, we're really very happy to offer a wine from from a Victorian vineyard farmed with so much intent that's been fully certified Biodynamic since 2012.

This is going to be a great, great delight over spring and summer and will also be a seriously good proposition for the cellar if you fancy popping a few bottles down.

Letting you know we'll be open tomorrow, Fri 27th for the public holiday from midday (should be a very charming afternoon) and then we'll be closed on Saturday the 28th.

TROY WHEELER COMES TO PUBLIC!!

Hi friends. Public has turned 3 this year so we're having a BBQ on Sunday 13/10 and one of the most loved people in our industry, Troy Wheeler (), is coming to cook.

Needing little introduction, Troy is a highly distinguished butcher, the co-owner of and a recently published author.

This is going to be an outrageous day. Troy will be setting up his custom built grill from and cooking over the coals in the courtyard so you can very readily expect dishes that we've never cooked before at Public.

If items like smoked lardo on toast, lampredotto, charcoal chicken and STEAK sound like a good time, bookings can be via the website or the link in the bio.

This will be an a la carte menu so you can really settle in and have seconds if you're in the mood.

We'll of course be pouring some very nice wine from magnum over the day and popping a few releases from the cellar in the fridge. It really is promising to be a great, great day for wine.

Records for the day will be selected by our long time collaborators Ari and Billy-Jean and team from Fitzroy's very fine who have contributed so much to Public over the last few years.

We're very, very excited about this - join us for will be an especially glorious Spring party.

We are delighted to have Anton Van Klopper of Lucy M. wines joining us not only as a producer this weekend at Force of Nature but as a teacher.

On Saturday Anton will host a talk entitled 8000 Years of Natural Wine accompanied by the above lineup of astounding wines.

The talk will document and draw interwoven cultural connections between the very origins of wine, agriculture, religion, culture, the past and the present.

“Natural wine as piece of cultural belief like the gods of sky and earth.”

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased along with your main ticket for admission.

ALI'S BACK!!

In pretty gorgeous news, our great mate Ali Currey-Voumard re-joins us at Public for a very delicious Sunday lunch on the 28th of this month.

This is going to be very nice fun and will be the day following so Ali's planning plenty of deep, nourishing, seasonal flavours and few things you can eat with one hand, glass of Tom Petty in the other.

Lunch kicks off at midday and Ali's menu will run until sold out.

Ben and and Public team will have our regular menu available too through the day and evening.

Ali's going to bring a sweet little case of records too so it's really going to be an incredible day to put a scarf on and come and eat an oyster baguette...and maybe some tripe!!

FORCE OF NATURE 2024

The team at Public Wine Shop are delighted to announce the first edition of Force of Nature.

This will be a very happy celebration of the wines we love and the wonderful people who grow and bottle them.

Please join us on Saturday the 27th of July from 1pm at 75 Reid St, right around the corner from Public.

This will be a tasting with a verrrrry fun party to follow, a bar FULL of incredible wine and a kitchen helmed by some of the most exciting talents in this city.

The tasting will be of 100% organically farmed wines and ciders, all of them containing grapes and nothing else.

We're very excited to be joined by a group of truly thrilling Australian and New Zealand producers, all of whom share a passion for small scale, organic farming, and a suite of quite profound wines from some of our favourite European domaines presented by their importers.

The tasting will run from 1-5pm, the kitchen and bar will be open all day and you'll be dancing all the way to 10pm.

Musically, this will be a great, great day. The team from Plug Seven will kick the day off, then 8 piece group Ausecuma Beats will play live during the early evening, followed by DJ Possum and Myles Mac playing back to back to close out the evening.

Cooking for the day will be Ali Currey-Voumard (A Table Bistro), Thi Li (Anchovy, Jeow and Ca Com) and of course Ben Sears and the team from Public. It's going to be a delicious afternoon.

In addition to the tasting, there'll be talks from luminaries James Erskine, Ned Goodwin and Anton Von Klopper, discussing aging organic, preservative free wine, Japan's influence and importance to the world of artisanal over the last two decades and then 8000 of natural wine. Plenty to discuss! Tickets for these talks are strictly limited and can be purchased with your general admission ticket.

We would like to acknowledge that Force of Nature will take place on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi
Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation and pay our respect them as the traditional custodians of country here.

In very, very sweet news, the team at Public is delighted to announce that we'll be holding a cheese tasting and masterclass with renowned cheesemonger Anthony Femia.

Join us on Tuesday the 25th of June for a very special evening with supplier and great friend of Public, Anthony Femia of Maker and Monger.

One of the foremost authorities of cheese in this country. Anthony opened his renowned cheese and wine store in the Prahran Market in 2015

Today, Maker and Monger is one of THE great places to buy cheese in Naarm / Melbourne and Anthony surely ranks among the most passionate professionals in our wonderful industry.

We’ll be tasting five extraordinary cheeses and discussing farming, pasture, seasons, maturation and more.

Anthony will be joined by Campbell Burton of Public Wine Shop who’ll be presenting and discussing five very special matched wines from producers like Domaine de Kalathas, Conservatoire des Vignes Anciennes and Jordi Llorens

We’ve been dreaming of doing an event with Anthony for some time now and are very, very excited about this!

This event will run from 6:30pm - 8:30pm on Tuesday 25/6/24.

ANTE at Public in May!!!

Hi folks. The team at Public is boiling over with excitement to announce that Jemma Whiteman and Matt Young of renowned Sydney restaurant and sake bar ANTE will be joining us at Public on Sunday the 19/5/24 for a suuuuper special lunch.

An instant and much adored classic, ANTE very quickly created a wave of wildly enthusiastic praise for its incredible ex*****on of basically every facet of hospitality from cooking, service, music and design.

For us, it's one of the most remarkable venues in this country so we very loudly thank Jemma and Matt for coming to town.

Lunch upstairs will be a set menu from Jemma for $90, with the first bookings being taken from 12:30.

Downstairs, Jemma will have a very gorgeous bar menu for lunch and Matt will pack a few records from ANTE's extraordinary collection (this is going to be amazing).

Then, OF COURSE, on both floors Matt will have a very special list of organic sake from by the glass so this is going to be a pretty singular afternoon at Public.
