Kilchoman Sanaig!
The west coast of Islay, from Portnahaven to Sanaigmore, is regularly battered by strong Atlantic storms. The high winds and rough seas have carved into the coastline to dramatic effect, creating a rugged beauty mirrored in the whisky after-which it was named.
Sanaig is a rocky inlet just north of the distillery and is the name given to their predominantly sherry cask influenced core expression, a vatting of 70% oloroso sherry casks and 30% bourbon barrels.
Distilled in traditional copper pot stills, Sanaig is then hand-bottled at over 46% after maturing in the finest oak barrels.

HLCF stands for Hampden Light Continental Flavoured. It is one of several marks made at Hampden Estate and refers to a rum with a high ester concentration, ranging from 400 to 600 gr/HLPA. This rum is marked by its power as shown by the 60% ABV. In spite of its strength, it remains refined and delicate, with toasty, woody and spicy aromas - a dazzling example of Pure Single Jamaica Rum.โ

CLAIRIN LE ROCHER ANSYEN 41 MONTHS
Single Cask -2-V2, Ex-Whiskey Barrel
This amazing Clairin Ansyen Le Rocher, aged for 41 months in ex-Jack Danielโs casks, was carefully selected by the Navigate World Whisky team. It represents a new chapter in the history of Clairin, being among the first expressions to be aged in some of the most legendary barrels in the world.
This Clairin was distilled in 2017 by Le Rocher in Pignon (Batch No. 5) and aged for 41 months in ex-Jack Daniel's casks at the Spirit of Haitiโs warehouse in Port-au-Prince. Clairin Ansyen is the first aged Clairin, marking a significant departure from the traditional practice of bottling Clairins unaged.
In 2015, the Spirit of Haiti built a small warehouse in Port-au-Prince specifically to age Clairin. This facility now holds several barrels previously used to store and age rums from distilleries such as Caroni, Hampden, Worthy Park, and Bielle. It also contains barrels of diverse origins, including sherry from Bodegas Lustau and various cognacs and whiskies. Additionally, Velier donated all barrels used for its 70th Anniversary releases.
A selection of Clairins from Sajous, Vaval, Casimir, and Le Rocher was chosen to age in these barrels, further enhancing their already impressive aromatic profiles. Since 2016, 30 casks of aged Clairin, known as Clairin Ansyen, have been released. These were carefully selected by Clairin World Championship winners and a few other industry influencers.

A rare and exclusive KOVAL "Bottled in Bond" Rye expression, aged for a minimum of four years in a federally bonded warehouse and bottled at precisely 50% ABV. Grain-forward spiciness nuanced by cinnamon and ginger give a nice kick to the entire drinking experience, with a finish that is both rich and balanced.
This expression is ideal for those who like plenty of spice, and long to experience the taste of a single, un-malted grain expression that is 100 proof โ 100% Rye.

Kilchoman 100% Islay 13th Edition is now available! And you have to taste it!!!
The 100% Islay editions celebrate barley grown on site but once itโs harvested, the Kilchoman team also malt the barley using traditional floor malting techniques, first germinating and then smoking the barley, using local Islay peat, to give the whisky its 20 PPM lightly peated character.
The 13th Edition was distilled from Kilchomanโs 2012, 2013 and 2014 barley harvests using the Publican barley varietal before being matured for a minimum of 8 years.
This latest edition is also the first release since 2019 where the distillery has opted for solely bourbon barrels. The 44 bourbon barrels that were selected are predominantly fresh casks, this gives the whisky lovely layers of buttery vanilla and caramel flavours which pair beautifully with the citrus sweetness of the spirit.

Once Michter's decide that a whiskey is ready to be bottled, itโs skillfully filtered with the unique protocol that they feel highlights that specific whiskeyโs best characteristics. At Michter's distillery, they chill filter all of their whiskeys instead of using carbon filtration that can strip out flavour and aroma. They use the different filtration mediums and techniques best suited to each of their individual whiskey offerings โ despite it being time consuming and costly โ to highlight each expressionโs best qualities.

2) ARIOUSIOS ASSYRTIKO 2018 - Orange Wine, 14%

3) DI GIULIA SCOMPIGLIO 2018 - Vino Frizzante, 12%
A sparkling wine made with spontaneous fermentation carried out in stainless steel vats. Refreshing, sapid, and accessible, this 100% verdicchio produces a vibrant wine with dynamic bubbles.
The Triple โAโ movement brings together winemakers who work in opposition to technological vinification, which tend to blur the identity of the terroir. Twenty years after its birth, this manifesto marks a new turning point with the launch of the Nuovo Paradisetto, a project that values the entire production chain, from the vineyard to the table.

Once filled, Michter's barrels move to the warehouse to age. They heat cycle all of their warehouses to increase the amount of interaction the whiskey has with the wood. Heat cycling is an uncommon practice used to raise and lower the temperatures in the barrel warehouses to induce extra cycles within a given year. This practice is extremely costly because heat cycling significantly increases the โAngelโs Shareโ evaporation during aging, which can enhance the flavour of the whiskey.

Of Stone and Light - by Christiaan Conradie
Akin to the splendid seclusion surrounding the distillery on its path from the fishing port to Keith, this painting encapsulates the essence of isolation within an expansive, vibrant landscape. Underpinned by a strong sense of power and motion, there is a visual and psychological intensity brought about by intuitive and rapid mark-making. This is juxtaposed in the artwork with careful attention to detail and sensitivity to the ever-evolving outcome, echoing the audacious character of the distillery. It is marked by boldness and intensity yet crafted with precision. The tension created between the pushing and pulling of brushstrokes and the visceral use of colour mimics the moniker "Allt Mรฒr," the distillery's water source, known as the 'big burn,' embodying the convergence of power and its ultimate release. Meanwhile, the interplay of brushstrokes, colours, and emotions is reminiscent of the synergy required for the elements to work together amidst the marshy terrain's inevitable embrace.

It's nearly time! ๐ The Kilchoman Sauternes Cask Matured release will be hitting shelves around the world from later this week and will be coming to South Africa - you'll just need to be patient while it makes the long journey from Islay!
Sauternes maturation is a challenge, particularly full term maturation, thatโs why it is so rare. Kilchoman's first release of sauternes cask matured Kilchoman, in 2016, was matured entirely in fresh (first fill) sauternes casks for five years. The second edition, released in 2018, was finished for five months in sauternes casks.
This time Anthony decided on a vatting of 22% fresh and 78% refill casks from two distillation years. This roughly 3:1 ratio of fresh and refill casks creates the perfect balance of sauternes influence and Kilchoman character. Most of the refill casks selected were previously used for the 2018 sauternes finish release. Using sauternes casks for finishing is the ideal preparation for full maturation, the shorter finishing period extracts the most intense sauternes influence, creating casks that develop plenty of sauternes influence without losing structure or balance.

Kilchoman is one of only a handful of distilleries still practicing traditional floor malting, a process that Scotlandโs other distilleries have outsourced to commercial maltsters. The labour-intensive nature of floor malting is a significant factor in its demise, though it remains at the heart of their philosophy.
Their 100% Islay represents the revival of traditional farm distilling, standing alone as Islayโs only Single Farm Single Malt Scotch Whisky, completing all stages of the process at Kilchoman from barley to bottle.

Even though the lower entry proof yields fewer bottles per barrel, they believe that the smooth flavour and richer mouthfeel makes it worth it.
