Benoît Trocard embarked on a new adventure in 2010: to produce a white wine on the right bank of Saint-Emilion. Originally, Rive Droite was the best terroir to produce white wines, which is why Trocard chose to make the bet of growing a white grape variety.
"I had long dreamed of working with this variety – and because I didn't want to step on the toes of the whites of Bordeaux who have already firmly established their reputation, notably the whites of Graves and Pessac-Léognan, made from Sauvignon and Semillon grapes I decided to pursue Chardonnay.
In 2010, he therefore decided to plant a little less than one hectare of Chardonnay on a beautiful south-facing clay and limestone hillside. This Chardonnay does not try to replicate the Burgundian style and mineral profile, but rather opts for a floral character with very beautiful citrus notes. Today, Clos Dubreuil only produces about 2000 bottles a year, with quality being the top priority for every vintage.
