It’s what we believe in. We believe great beer is fresh, locally-made, small-batch brews.
That’s why we created Running Tap, Minnesota’s first taproom delivery service. Place your order online and our delivery team will pick it up fresh from the taproom and bring it to your door.
It all started with two college buddies working late and trying to get beer delivered. Assuming it wouldn't be much different than ordering anything else online, they were surprised at the hoops they had to jump through, and frustrated that they none of their favorite local brews were available.
This set them on a journey of discovery, talking to local brewers and beer experts, learning about the laws that regulated the sale of beer, and wondering if there was a smarter way to buy better beer.
Six long months later, Running Tap was born, Minnesota's first taproom delivery service - letting customers buy fresh local craft beer, directly from brewers.
When Governor Mark Dayton signed the ‘Surly Bill’ into law in 2011, Minnesota only had 35 breweries. Breweries were not allowed to serve pints because of the three-tiered system separating manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. The ‘Surly Bill’ allowed smaller Minnesota breweries to sell directly to customers, and since then, more than 100 new breweries have opened.
Hometown taprooms are not new. Prior to Prohibition, many towns had their own hometown brew, and it was only in 2015 that the number of American breweries exceeded their pre-prohibition levels. What is new, is the variety of beers being brewed locally. Where beer styles were once tied to countries or regions, access to global ingredients are allowing local breweries to brew German Pilsners, Belgian Ales, Irish Stouts… Some are even reviving historical styles or experimenting with new hop strains and yeast species.
Seizing the unique opportunity Minnesotan brewers have to sell directly to customers, we hope that Minnesotans will choose to buy more beer directly from local breweries, rather than shop imported offerings at liquor stores. With Minnesota’s unprecedented number of breweries pushing the boundaries of style and flavor, drinking local is a no-brainer. And given the successes of direct sales models like Dangerous Man, and co-ops like Fair State and Broken Clock, direct engagement between breweries and customers has proven itself to be a good thing for both brewers and customers.
We hope to support the innovations of brewers by bringing more of their creations to thirsty Minnesotans, starting with Minneapolis / Saint Paul and expanding to surrounding suburbs. The beers are the same prices as in taprooms, and customers with growlers can enjoy a growler return service as well.
Better beer. Delivered. Simple as that.
